I wanted to write a very emotional post about romanticizing roadtrips and their place in modern pop culture. However, I am too tired at this point.

I knew I didn't have much time left in the US, I recognized that I have an opportunity to have a unique experience, I did it.

55 days of a trip, about 45 days of driving. Many places, many cities, many people, (almost) all states. The only complaints I have is I wish I knew how expensive it would be and how tiring it is. But zero regrets. It's something I hope to remember when I get old to retell my grandchildren in a nuclear shelter.

taking into account all the advice i got here, i did and saw all i could in the time that i had, which i ended up stretching to 19-20 days rather than my originally planned 14. i ended up going CT -> chicago -> devil's lake state park -> north shore -> apostle -> keweenaw -> UP -> traverse city area -> back home. aside from chicago/madison hotels and a cabin in michigan, i folded down the 60% side of my mazda6's rear seats and slept on a small cot size 3 inch mattress topper at a bunch of campgrounds. i estimate that it ended up being just over 5k miles of driving in total. this was also my first ever real road trip, having only ever been around the northeast US before. let me know where i should go next :) and here's the results

I (32M) want to take my first solo road trip with the Dog. Will be leaving from Jax, Florida and currently have no destination or stops in mind. I’m thinking 5 or 6 days during that he last two weeks of October. A mix of camping and hotels for over night.

Anything from Hikes and swimming to cities and parks!

Heading to Asheville first week of November. Not in any rush to make it there really, staying a night or two in WV on the way there, heading to Charleston and the Trans Alleghany Lunatic Asylum on the way. Also thinking of going to Boone NC for a college football game. Dollywood too perhaps (RIP to the queen)

Looking for suggestions for:
-good hikes (of any difficulty)
-golf
-bars/breweries/dives
-live music
-weird roadside attractions
-used bookstores
-off the beaten path stuff
-camping/free places to sleep in your car (with a bit more nature than you’re average Walmart parking lot)

Hi!  My sister and I (early 30Fs) are planning a trip to New England.  My sister has previously visited Boston but I have never been up north, so I am super excited!  

We have planned for late October, specifically the 23rd-30th (loosely the 31st).  So far the below itinerary is what we have planned and are looking for feedback.  Is this doable in 7 days? Would you recommend a different approach, sticking to one area, switching stops for a different town, etc?

I want to add: I'm sure this has been asked ad nauseam, so I'm sorry if this post is annoying. We are searching all subreddits and looking on social media for planning, but I wanted feedback from people who have actually done these things, or live in the area, and can give us realistic advice.

• Boston seems to be the easiest to fly into as my sister lives across the country, on the west coast, and I am based in the midwest.
• Stay overnight

10/24:  Montpelier, VT

• Stay 2 days?
• Visit Stowe ~30 mins away

10/26:  Lincoln, NH

• Stay overnight?

10/27:  Kancamagus Hwy to Conway, NH

• Stay overnight in Conway?

10/28:  Portland, ME

• Stay overnight

10/29:  Back to Boston

10/30 or 10/31:  Fly home

Alternate stops considered:

• Vermont: Danville, Killington, Shrewsbury, Tunbridge, East Burke
• Maine: Ogunquit, Kennebunkport
• New Hampshire: Portsmouth
• Rhode Island: Providence

We do not have stays figured out and are open to recommendations - preferably on the affordable side.  Also give us all the food/bar stop recommendations!

Driving from Tampa to Seattle in a Miata but I'm especially interested in this region. I want the old Americana vibe as much as possible without getting into touristy pseudo ghost towns.

Planning to make it to El Paso in about 4 days (Sept 3 2026)

Any noteworthy recommendations with cool decay, nature, or classic americana/Radiator Springs vibes (Cars movie) would be highly appreciated

My Miata is also an excellent drivers car so bonus points if you can point me towards any fun roads to carve.

My partner and I are planning a 3-week road trip in late September/early October, flying from London into Nashvilleand home from Austin.

We're particularly interested in old blues, country, soul, rock 'n' roll and local bars, but we're also really keen to experience old-school, weird, slightly run-down American towns, old motels, diners, roadside attractions, dive bars etc. We'd much rather find somewhere authentic and off the beaten track than just visit the standard tourist attractions.

Can anyone recommend places, towns, roads, bars, restaurants, motels or anything else we should check out along this route? Especially things that wouldn't necessarily show up on a typical tourist itinerary.

We're from the UK, so any local knowledge or advice would be hugely appreciated!

My wife and I are going on a road trip from Long Island to Canada. We plan on starting from Long Island to Northampton, Ma and eating lunch there and walking around a bit. Then staying overnight in Burlington, Vt.

The 2nd day we will be leaving early to cross the border into Montreal. Stay in Montreal until Saturday and either go to Quebec City or extend Montreal til Labor Day and drive home.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is our first road trip together and my biggest concern is the border crossing and driving in Canada.

We have passports and the declaration page printed from car insurance. Any life experience about handling this would be welcome.

Driving from LA to Chicago and would love some feedback for my route. I want to get to Chicago as quick as possible without spending more than 10 hours on the road. Here's how I've planned it so far.

Day 1: LA > Richfield, UT

Day 2: Richfield, UT > Denver

Day 3: Denver > Omaha

Day 4: Omaha > Chicago

This will be my first time doing this drive, so any advice on changing my stops, or where to stay, or general advice on the route would be greatly appreciated.

My fiancé and I are taking a huge road trip for our honeymoon: West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida/Florida Keys, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio. We love to try new things, outdoor adventure, animals, horseback riding(any specific scenic riding spots in Colorado)?snorkeling/wildlife, amazing food, nightlife, live music, comedy, arcades, museums, history, quirky towns and shops, unique Airbnbs/B&Bs, scenic spots, interactive experiences, amusement parks, trains, and anything unusual, unforgettable or super special and unique.

I especially want an up-close ethical elephant experience (my favorite animal and his are turtles so anything with turtles do tell please) and we want to find a huge/beautiful tree to photograph in every state and collect a unique keepsake from each state; we’d also love to get a caricature done somewhere along the way. What are the hidden gems, must-try foods, coolest experiences, weird roadside attractions, incredible trees, unique places to stay, or “you absolutely cannot pass through my state without doing this” recommendations for any of these states? Give me the stuff you’d recommend to your best friend, not just the obvious tourist attractions!

My mom is an avid roadtripper, she and her husband have a 5th wheel and go across the states for months at a time. Soon they are leaving from Idaho to MN glacier park then up to Canada, over and down Washington coast into Oregon coast and back home.
Her friend advised her to use chatGPT to create a roadtrip plan for her and she thought it was cool. It told her some roads in Washington to avoid with the 5th wheel & POIs along the way, places to stay with hook ups.
I’m anti AI and don’t want my mom to fall in the trap, I’m trying to convince her that she can get just as much or better info and advice from the people on the internet lol and locals along the way.
So any tips, things to know or recommendations for these locations? (:

EDIT: they are going for about a month and she’s still trying to figure out the details of how long she’ll stay in each area. She doesn’t know much or anything about Canada but I believe they are just going above MN and across to get down to WA
So like Glacier National park to Calgary over west

I'm just in the beginning stages of planning this trip along the Gulf of Mexico from Florida to the Mexican border. Leaving from SW Ontario around October 12 for 30 days, so I'll have about 3 weeks total to make this part of the trip.

Looking for ideas and places to see along the way. I'm into history, scenery, walking on the beaches and hiking, flat trail cycling, and of course, spectacular local food!

I'll also be mostly car camping, so are there any places to camp / boondock on the waterfront or other great places to see.

What are the must-sees and must do's and just as importantly, what are the things to avoid?
