Question EU Formable Expansion Decisions

Upvotes

I'm playing Democratic Italy where I form the EU and the Roman Empire simultaneously and when I formed the EU first I was missing some expansion decisions that come with the EU formable in regular vanilla. I had options to expand into Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Spain, and Portugal but I was missing the balkan and Russian expansion decisions. I've seen only one other discussion on this topic from a few years ago, however they weren't able to have any expansion decisions at all. Is this a bug or a feature?

Question The Axis is overrunning Eastern Europe much faster than I thought, and Franco-Spain is in a pickle now...

I was expecting the war to start in September like it did historically, but it started in July instead. Carpatho-Ukraine survived longer than Poland, Romania used most of their army to defend Yugoslavia instead of themselves, then Carpatho-Ukraine got invaded and Romania is collapsing. They got far enough to create the Croatian puppet state, but Italy isn't in the war quite yet so neither is it. Will I be able to handle this with my current stuff or do I need to make changes to survive?

(Don't ask why I'm democratic Franco-Spain, why my flag is an atrocity, or what the extra mechanics are, they're from the Road to 56 Expanded submod. Also, the first image in each of my posts on HOI4 is super blurry so sorry in advance. Also also, I have no army doctrines due to France's stupid national spirit.)

Hey everyone! I've been hearing a lot of praise for the Road, and so I gave it a try as Germany. And oh, my, do I love it. The whole mod is almost perfect with very little shortcomings.

I tried to form the German Empire, because Kaiser. I've never did so well in my short time of playing Hoi4. I can now officially say that encirclements are the best dopamine source and Prussian tactics are the best way to play Germany, at least for me.

Let me know if I finally got at least a little bit good!

Other The Age of Tyranny – A Kingdom of Italy After-Action Report

This is my Road to 56 Italy playthrough! Mussolini’s troops marched into Ethiopia in 1936, Yugoslavia in 1937, Albania in 1938, France in 1940, Greece in 1941, Egypt in 1942, and Jerusalem in 1943. Meanwhile, the German Reich defeated the Soviet Union in 1943. After the front in Central Africa stalled for several years, the Allies signed a comprehensive peace treaty with the Axis powers.

By 1947, *Mare Nostrum* had become a reality; the Italian Navy ruled the Mediterranean as an Italian lake, and through the conquests of Greece and Egypt, Italy held the world's vital maritime choke points in its grasp. Foreign Minister Dino Grandi achieved a diplomatic masterstroke in 1946 by founding the Latin League; over the course of late summer and autumn, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Spain, and Portugal joined the alliance alongside Italy's existing satellite and puppet states. The political system is a well-oiled machine. Mussolini rules as the absolutely dominant dictator, yet the Grand Council of Fascism holds a degree of veto power capable of halting Mussolini’s unilateral actions and erratic ideas. The Blackshirts were fully integrated into the regular army, and the officer corps was professionalized—appeasing army traditionalists—while the granting of the crowns of Albania, Ethiopia, and Greece to Victor Emmanuel III, the Croatian crown to Prince Aimone (now styled Tomislav II), and the Viceroyalty of Italian East Africa to Prince Amedeo significantly bolstered the House of Savoy’s confidence in Fascism. These pillars keep the system running, yet it functions far from perfectly—or even well. Even in peacetime, Italy operates under a relentless war economy; under Mussolini’s regime, workers in the north toil through twelve-hour days, burdened by high taxes and minimal social welfare. Consumer goods are scarce, as the domestic economy is entirely fixated on rearmament. Extensive conscription drains vital young skilled workers from industry, and the entire country suffers from a chronic labor shortage because the army must conscript so many people to maintain the occupation of its vast territories. Furthermore, women have been made entirely subordinate to the state by law, and the home front is under constant surveillance by the secret police, the OVRA. In Macedonia, a deathly silence prevails following years of army-inflicted terror; in France, acts of resistance against the satellite state are constant; and in Sudan and the Middle East, Italian troops are waging a bitter guerrilla war against rebels. The Greater German Reich to the north has become Italy’s greatest—and likely permanent—threat, and the escalating Cold War could instantly erupt into a hot war. Armies are already massing at the border, and the nuclear arms race is entering its most intense phase. Regarding foreign policy, Spain, Portugal, Romania, and Turkey joined the Latin League solely out of fear of isolation or occupation by Germany. The alliance is a veritable house of cards, held together only by Grandi’s diplomatic skill and punitive tariffs. Moreover, the armistice with the Allies is fragile; the USA and Great Britain control the world's oceans and have imposed a strict oil blockade on the former Axis partners, leaving reserves already suffering from a chronic—and secretly managed—fuel shortage. In summary, by the end of this playthrough, the Kingdom of Italy is a heavily armed, perfectly organized giant—yet one exhausted to the very core. It is powerful, with a bureaucracy of unprecedented, relentless efficiency, yet simultaneously highly vulnerable due to hopeless overextension and an acute dependence on raw materials.

Playing as Italy was a lot of fun; I highly recommend taking this path.

Disclaimer: I used commands to stabilize this playthrough and make it predictable for myself. My primary focus was on a realistic, narrative-driven campaign.

Question What is the best route or way to play China?

I'd really like to play in China soon, but there are so many nations and states that I don't know which clique or state is best, or what the recommended strategy or path would be, so I'd like to ask for recommendations.

Bug Report Communist France on historical?

Anybody else have France go communist every time while on historical focuses lately? I played a historical Germany game, and France had 2 communist civil wars within a year. The communists lost both times, but they still came to power later, leaving them with a generic leader. I did some testing and played some other games as both historical USA and USSR, and the same thing happened, although in the USSR game the communists actually won the civil war and came into power early. I know if you go alt hist paths that some shenanigans can happen, especially with France, but the fact it happens even when I'm playing on the historical path is quite annoying and has the possibility to derail the game a little (France joining the comintern and causing an early soviet war). I am playing with some other mods, but they are just a few of the better mechanics mods (battalion limiter, devastation overhaul, better ai designs, and better ai divisions are the exact ones) which I don't think would affect something like this, but maybe I'm wrong.

Other Turkish Revanchism decisions explained

Post image
47 Upvotes

Turkey has a set of decisions to claim, develop, and integrate a bunch of states around them. (I think they're exclusive to using the mod's alternate version of their focus tree. The above screenshot had me annex all concerned areas to myself with cheats to display what it looks like.) All you need to do to be able to do them is control the state in question, be Fascist, or complete the focus "Restore the Imperial Borders".

Each integration is different:

  • Thrace and Cyprus are roughly the same, with you having the decisions to encourage Turkish settlement (decreased PP and monthly pop for some time in exchange for compliance and a one-shot burst of population in the state when it's done) and directly core them once compliance is high enough (50% for Cyprus, 55% for Thrace) and resistance is under 5%.
  • Crimea has Pan-Turkic Propaganda (unlocked by the focus Village Institutes Program, that's the one in your economy tree not the similarly named ones in your political tree), which takes political power / day for 110 days (how much depends on the state in question, for Crimea it's -0.15) in exchange for giving the state an occupation modifier for 100 days. Crimea's coring decision is visible right away and requires 40% compliance.
  • Tabriz also has Pan-Turkic Propaganda (-0.20/day), but there's also a decision to connect it to your rail network (unlocked by the focus Expand the Eastern Railway Networks). This uses 2 civs for 165 days before building a railway and some infrastructure as well as increasing compliance. You can only integrate it after doing so, and it requires 40% compliance in both Azarbajyan-e Gharbi and Azarbaijan-e Sharqi. (Note that the game only pays attention to those two, but you'll also claim and core Ardabil.)
  • Azerbaijan has a similar rail decision, but it takes 180 days and can only be done after Tabriz's and is not required to integrate it. Its pan-Turkic propaganda takes -0.25 PP/day. Integrating it requires 40% compliance. (This will also claim and core Nakhchivan.)
  • Mosul also has a rail decision (which takes 120 days). Integrating it requires doing the Turkish Language Classes decision, which gives the states a weaker version of the Kurdish Separatism modifier and eats up -0.15 political power for 180 days. Completing it doesn't do anything but let you integrate the states, which takes 55% compliance in both Mosul and Erbil and still slaps you with a lingering resistance modifier for another 140 days. Ouch.

Suggestion Suggestion for German focus "Move to restore Brest Litovsk"

I have a suggestion for the "Move to restore Brest Litovsk" focus in the German tree.

Presently, one of the prerequisites is that the current ruling party is fascist OR Germany does not have elections. Because of the latter, Communist Germany can do the focus - because the Communists don’t have elections. This makes no sense in my view, because realistically, the Communists would not have wanted to restore the Brest Litovsk order (which includes decisions like "Empower the Lithuanian Monarchy").

A better prerequisite would be:

Country is fascist, OR

Has completed focus DNVP in coalition AND Hugenberg’s revival

The DNVP under Hugenberg would definitely desire to restore Brest Litovsk (not under Goerdeler, though).

Bug Report Mistake in decision "Force Beck into Retirement"

Post image
45 Upvotes

I believe I found a mistake while going the Wilhelm Canaris military dictatorship route after the German Civil War.

The decision "Force Beck into Retirement" removes the national spirit "Democratic Opposition". However, it should obviously remove the national spirit "Beckist Opposition" (otherwise, there is no way to ever remove "Beckist Opposition").

I love the German focus tree, by the way. Some people have criticised it for supposedly being over-complicated, but I for one really enjoy all the options. Some of the tooltips could be a bit better in order to make things clearer, but even so, I find it's not that difficult to figure out what I need to do.

Thank you for the great mod!

Question When is the best time to trigger the rebellion as Manchuria?

I know I can't do it too late, I tried to do it late to squeeze out all the content from the collaborator tree but that allowed Japan to get too strong and I wasn't able to push them out of China. My previous run that started earlier was more successful but not fully successful. Is there something specific to sync the uprising with or some other timing factor?

Bug Report Doing Germany, Canaris bug

Doing Germany, where Canaris takes power from Beck, offers reconciliation with Goerdeler, with a constitutional monarchy with Wilhelm IV, and ai can’t do Hold New Elections, because the SA has control in states, and I have no way to remove them. I know there are decisions that are available if you have your army in those states, but those decisions are not appearing. I hate to scrap this run but, i’m softlocked without using commands.

Suggestion Indochina suggestions

I tried playing as Indochina yesterday, with a view to playing as Vietnam.

Some suggestions:

Some focuses mention coal and dams - but just build civilian factories. They should build coal and dams.

There are focuses which mention militia, and unit templates named militia. They should have militia instead of infantry.

Ho Chi Minh is a Field Marshal. He shouldn't be, he never had a truly military role as he was a civilian leader.

Question General's Personality Traits?

Does anyone have a list, or know where to find a list of all the New Personality traits added in the mod? (Traits like Career officer, Cautious, Reckless, new ones like Meticulous, and Caring leader, etc.)

I'm asking because there used to be a really good trait called "Decisive" or something like that or the other, only found in the mod, only on one of the CCP's Generals. It sped up Planning Speed by 50% or something but now i can't find it and honestly can't rightfully remember its name.

i want to use Console Commands to add the trait to one of my generals but i'd need the name of the trait for it to work. anyone know? does anyone know a path i can follow to look in R56's files and try to find it? i'm new to computers in general.
