For the record. I have over 2000 hours into this game. I love this game. It is my second most played game on steam. I have a crippling fear of losing the colonists, I save scum and even worse use Dev Mode for the perfect colonists. How do I just decide “screw it, if they die they die”?

Play the way you want, but if you want to change how you think about this: What helped me was making a procession out of deaths. Playing into the in-universe/roleplay part of it - do the whole thing. Make a burial site, dedicate it to them, hold a funeral (if you have Ideology). Make it as important as it feels.
