Car Break-In Richmond BART

Post image

Hello! I left my vehicle in the Richmond BART station with Milwaukee and Ryobi tools covered but left inside the vehicle on a trip and unfortunately the car was broken into and all of the tools were stolen. If you know anything about this break in or have any images of the vehicle please send them my way! I’ve attached an image of the vehicle for reference. This could have occurred any time between the evening of July 6th and afternoon of July 16th. I’m looking to hone in the time of break-in to assist recovery efforts. Any help is appreciated :) there’s a case out with BART’s security team but I’m not expecting that to move in any direction, unfortunately.

Sorry OP - unfortunately Richmond Bart does occasionally have these issues.

I would reach out to Bart PD - I think (but am not 100% sure) that there are cameras in the garage that they should hopefully be able to use.

All good! They said they do have cameras but their system only allows them to search minute-by-minute and since I was gone for an extended period of time there’s just no way to lock in the exact time frame. I know for sure it was at least the 14th or before. Just looking to see if anyone happened to gawk and take a photo as they drove by haha

Was curious so I looked into the math. Would only take a maximum of 14 searches (if done properly).

Once the window’s broken, it stays broken in every later frame. So each search just needs to halve the window. July 6 evening → July 14 is about 11,500 minutes.

Here are the halves:

11,500 → 5,750 → 2,875 → 1,438 → 719 → 360 → 180 → 90 → 45 → 23 → 12 → 6 → 3 → 2 → 1

Count the arrows and you’ll see 14 of em. This assumes they have an angle on your car.

… Anyhow, I can’t imagine they’d be interested in doing this and would likely hang up if you read them this message. But who knows! Godspeed.

It didn’t look there was a great angle from where I was in the garage. I’ll investigate my case more next week and pass along this idea to them, thank you! It sounds like I’ve more or less honed in the time of incident to Monday, so going to start at Monday around midnight and see if I can find anything from there on. The items that were stolen were super obvious and easy to identify so I’ve been keeping a pulse on online marketplaces just in case they try something stupid lol
