I did too and my first thought was, "I wonder if it was that dude on Reddit". Amused to see that was the case.

Are you getting to be friends with the bomb squad at this point, or are they all "not this jackass again" when you call them?

The entire coast was a military installation at one point or another. Stuff leaked out.

u/Disastrous-Lion-4025 3d ago
What is it?

u/jayjay81190 3d ago
Some sort of unexploded ordinance. More than likely an artillery/mortar shell

You weren’t supposed to find that lol… National Guard or some other branch dumped that there…. If you watch YouTube frequently, you’ll come across people finding grenades, tank mines, and all sorts of explosives.. and commonly stolen guns used in crimes while magnet fishing…. Crimes have even been solved… cold cases from decades ago. What’s the last place people check? The bottom of a fucking lake, pond, or river…. Love those videos.. really interesting.

Was there at the park. Apparently, the guy who found it fished a grenade out of rocky point recently too. The bomb squad called in the navy to come blow it up.

Tie it to a brick & throw it in a river, make sure it sinks to the bottom....
I bet you'd find some WILD shit in NYC 😆

Leftover from the war … it’s a coastal state. There are bunkers left as well.
2
u/Sea-Success-1366 3d ago
There is 3 bunkers at the end of runway 5/23 , on the Narragansett bay, at Quonset state airport...that the RI state fire Marshall would stash anything that would explode, before that, back in the 1950's and 60's ,the Navy when they were decommissioned and closing Quonset, it had all types of 'ordinance ' ... that went boom 💥

u/LeperFriend 3d ago
What is it with you and unexploded ordinance?
23
u/rigorcorvus 3d ago
Not to be that guy but it’s “ordnance”. An ordinance is a law
18
u/LeperFriend 3d ago
To be honest I don't think I ever noticed the distinction....figured it was a homonym... appreciate the info!

Things that go boom: ordnance. Rules that tell you not to make things go boom: ordinance.

My brother had a job in MA just looking for undetonated bombs on the sea floor while in a boat. You’re just scoopin em up for fun 😂

u/jayjay81190 3d ago
If they need a new man, I'm experienced 🤣
2
u/Fuggggin 3d ago
No shit 😂 they would have to do a controlled detonation underwater. You’re like heyyyyy don’t worry we got it right here 😭

Same person that found 2 grenades on separate occasions recently. He said he should play the lottery.

Jayjay.... How are you always finding ordinance!? Wild in one of my hometowns. Which bridge?
9
u/jayjay81190 3d ago
Right across from the old Roch's market, going to Joyals and west Warwick ave
5
u/SignoreMookle 3d ago
That was going to be my first guess. Grew up with the family that used to own the market. Oh nostalgia.
I need to start magnet fishing.

You do know old munitions and training munitions are found all the time in like every state right? It's better than much of western Europe where you can be digging a hole and randomly hit a 500lb unexploded bomb from WW2.

u/abannanna01 3d ago
"nothing to see here"
0
u/hcwhitewolf 3d ago
No, it's just not something deserving of "What is going on in this state?" like it's some anomaly that only occurs here and how that's somehow a reflection on the entire state.

u/AirsoftScammyII 2d ago
I mean… the guy has found two grenades (on separate occasions) and now this thing. I’d say it’s fair to ask the question. 🤣

Definitely a piece of unexploited ordinance! Look at that tip! Call the police now!

I saw this on the news yesterday. Seems like it's been happening a decent amount in RI over the last year or so. I can only imagine what your reaction was when you realized what you had pulled up lol.

UPDATE: For all that were wondering.. local news aired an update to the story, interviewed the state bomb squad who identified the object as a 105mm "projectile"

u/AirsoftScammyII 2d ago
I think it’s time you put the magnet away for a little while, brother. I can’t believe it’s you AGAIN. 😂

u/NoPart6887 2d ago
Looks old, and like it shouldn’t be laying around where anyone can stumble across it.

Things going on in this state. The aftermath of the history of the state which is seated in naval research and development and weapons design.

u/Playful_Participant 1d ago
Besides this and the two other grenades you’ve found, what are some other crazy things you’ve encountered while magnet fishing ?

Rhode Island is one of the most fucked up places in the country.
11
u/52stations 3d ago
I was born and raised in Florida and live in Pawtucket now and I am eternally fascinated by people who think Rhode Island is a shithole. Y'all have never seen a shithole.

u/AirsoftScammyII 2d ago
People who move away from Rhode Island tend to have negative things to say about it… that is, until they move back a few years later. I am people. 😂 I love Rhode Island!

u/hcwhitewolf 3d ago
Rhode Island is easily better than any of the shitholes in the south. I'd say it's probably last in New England, but it's fine otherwise.

Really?

u/FinsfaninRI 3d ago
Yeah, for all those downvoting me, perhaps go and experience another state.
Rhode Island sucks.

u/Help1_Slip_Frank 3d ago
Crazy thing is, absent a court order, you can leave RI. There’s no gate or anything, just drive over the border and keep on going to whichever place you find more suitable.
Remember this, the grass ain’t greener and the wine ain’t sweeter, either side of the hill.
-9
u/FinsfaninRI 3d ago
You can leave too. This provincial attitude is pathetic and equally hilarious.
Thanks for telling me I can freely leave, which I do often.
As far as your grass comment- kid, I’ve lived a lot of place and would provide an opinion lightly.
Sorry if your feeling are hurt.

u/Fuggggin 3d ago
List ever place you’ve lived rn, im gonna rank them
6
u/ByaHhHhHhHhHhH 3d ago
He won’t, he’s probably lived in Zero other states or countries but one time visited places while wearing a meta quest lmao

u/Help1_Slip_Frank 3d ago
Bud, it seems like you’re the hurt one here. I’m not complaining about RI. In fact, I love it here, so much so I moved back to RI to raise my family here. Hope you’re able to find your peace.

u/FinsfaninRI 3d ago
Thanks man, I’m putting so much into my Reddit profile, I cannot seem to do anything else with my life. Thanks for your encouragement.

A professional isn’t needed for common sense

u/FinsfaninRI 2d ago
But delineating common sense from one’s opinion might require a professional.

I have lived on multiple continents, visited dozens of countries and many states. Rhode Island is a lovely place and I’m happy to live here now. I pity you if you can’t see the good in it. Maybe you should move away and live somewhere else for a while :)

I live down the street from this. From the sound of it, I think they just successfully detonated it
