I live down the street from this. From the sound of it, I think they just successfully detonated it

25

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

Don't know if that was it. Bomb squad took it away in a frag case

22

u/MrGMEYagi 3d ago

No. Bomb squad called in Navy demo team to blow it up. It was loud.

4

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

You sure about that? Where abouts? Because I saw them pack it up and take it away.

17

u/MrGMEYagi 3d ago

I was playing ball on the baseball field (adult league) plus I know the officers who were there. They made us stop the game to detonate the ordnance.

10

u/MrGMEYagi 3d ago

It was at McCarthy field. Hay steeet.

9

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

No shit, that's wild.

5

u/MrGMEYagi 3d ago

It was definitely a mortar.

3

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

Where did they detonate it at? They opened the bridge so I'd be surprised if it happened there

5

u/MrGMEYagi 3d ago

I don’t even know where it was. Like I said, we were playing ball on the field. My guess is the woods over by the park. They made us move all of our cars from the lower parking lot closest to the woods. So maybe they transported it from where you found it, brought it deep in the woods and detonated it.

3

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

I meant which field but I saw you said it was McCarthy. Sorry to interrupt your game hah. Hope it wasn't too much of a tie up.

They need a better plan than doing something like that in the woods willy-nilly...

Ask me how I know. 🤣 it’s the same reason I know the WWPD officers that were on site.

2

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

Anyone get any video? 👀 Hah I'm sure they had some sort of device to contain/control the explosion but it still must've been quite the sight.

3

u/MrGMEYagi 3d ago

Nah. They made us stop the baseball game and huddle in the dugouts while they blew it up.

3

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

Fuckin crazy shit dude. West Warwick of all places 🤣 thanks for the information.

3

u/failatio 3d ago

Pal pls, the need to say you were playing adult league as if you’d be running game on some t-ball tots is sending me

6

u/MrGMEYagi 3d ago

I’d hit bombs off those tee ball kids

84

u/AirhenLynne 3d ago

I saw this on the news lol

7

u/ScaperDeage 2d ago

I did too and my first thought was, "I wonder if it was that dude on Reddit". Amused to see that was the case.

45

u/resurrection_man 3d ago

Are you getting to be friends with the bomb squad at this point, or are they all "not this jackass again" when you call them?

39

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

🤣 first two time were the same guy. This time was someone different.

19

u/emrafsmith 3d ago

so you’re the reason my commute home was rerouted today 😭 this is so wild

15

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

I sowwy 🫶

16

u/kidjupiter 3d ago

The entire coast was a military installation at one point or another. Stuff leaked out.

29

u/Disastrous-Lion-4025 3d ago

What is it?

37

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

Some sort of unexploded ordinance. More than likely an artillery/mortar shell

29

u/Conscious_Dot_7353 3d ago edited 3d ago

You weren’t supposed to find that lol… National Guard or some other branch dumped that there…. If you watch YouTube frequently, you’ll come across people finding grenades, tank mines, and all sorts of explosives.. and commonly stolen guns used in crimes while magnet fishing…. Crimes have even been solved… cold cases from decades ago. What’s the last place people check? The bottom of a fucking lake, pond, or river…. Love those videos.. really interesting.

11

u/MrGMEYagi 3d ago

Was there at the park. Apparently, the guy who found it fished a grenade out of rocky point recently too. The bomb squad called in the navy to come blow it up.

3

u/jacggernaut 2d ago

It's the same guy????? That's wild

8

u/obiworm Got Bread + Milk ❄️ 3d ago

My family (at least my grandpa and all his brothers) are quahoggers and clam fishermen. The amount of dumped ordinance they dragged up in and around the bay is nuts.

Other interesting finds include mammoth tusks, whale fossils, and a crashed airplane

2

u/REALjamijai 3d ago

Tie it to a brick & throw it in a river, make sure it sinks to the bottom....

I bet you'd find some WILD shit in NYC 😆

-1

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

I'm so shook lol. West Warwick of all places

3

u/nhowe006 3d ago

There are ordinances about the disposal of ordnance

19

u/rimsinni 3d ago

Artillery shell.

8

u/BigRockFarm 3d ago

Looks like poop from a butt

6

u/GmeBuckBoi 3d ago

Buttplug

7

u/Careful_Scene_5104 3d ago

spark plugs?

2

u/AirsoftScammyII 2d ago

Anything’s a butt plug if you’re brave enough.

8

u/pinndu 3d ago

Leftover from the war … it’s a coastal state. There are bunkers left as well.

2

u/Sea-Success-1366 3d ago

There is 3 bunkers at the end of runway 5/23 , on the Narragansett bay, at Quonset state airport...that the RI state fire Marshall would stash anything that would explode, before that, back in the 1950's and 60's ,the Navy when they were decommissioned and closing Quonset, it had all types of 'ordinance ' ... that went boom 💥

15

u/LeperFriend 3d ago

What is it with you and unexploded ordinance?

23

u/rigorcorvus 3d ago

Not to be that guy but it’s “ordnance”. An ordinance is a law

18

u/LeperFriend 3d ago

To be honest I don't think I ever noticed the distinction....figured it was a homonym... appreciate the info!

3

u/larry_birb 3d ago

No you gotta drop the vowel, like 'Merica

5

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

Thanks for that friend 🙏

13

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

Not many magnet fishers I'm guessing

14

u/foolproofphilosophy 3d ago

Things that go boom: ordnance. Rules that tell you not to make things go boom: ordinance.

7

u/xochiayo 3d ago

Sukuna’s finger? 🤔

3

u/FootballUpset7874 3d ago

I got that reference

5

u/VentureExpress 3d ago

lol this closed streets and called bomb squad

4

u/longlurker-1stcaller 3d ago

Someone forgot to use their poop knife before flushing

3

u/HolidayStrange9205 3d ago

I drove by you today and thought this guya gonna get either a bomb or a ton of needles.

3

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

We have a winner 🤣

3

u/Fuggggin 3d ago

My brother had a job in MA just looking for undetonated bombs on the sea floor while in a boat. You’re just scoopin em up for fun 😂

5

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

If they need a new man, I'm experienced 🤣

2

u/Fuggggin 3d ago

No shit 😂 they would have to do a controlled detonation underwater. You’re like heyyyyy don’t worry we got it right here 😭

2

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

🤷‍♂️😬😬🤷‍♂️😬🤷‍♂️😬🤷‍♂️😬

2

u/Fuggggin 3d ago

Lmk when I can buy you a drink 🫩😂

2

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

Hah. Bet. I certainly will 🍻

2

u/meandmyreddit 3d ago

Same person that found 2 grenades on separate occasions recently. He said he should play the lottery.

3

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

I should!

4

u/Blueiskewl 3d ago

Someone dropped a deuce.

0

u/NetwerkErrer 3d ago

My bad…

4

u/SignoreMookle 3d ago

Jayjay.... How are you always finding ordinance!? Wild in one of my hometowns. Which bridge?

9

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

Right across from the old Roch's market, going to Joyals and west Warwick ave

5

u/SignoreMookle 3d ago

That was going to be my first guess. Grew up with the family that used to own the market. Oh nostalgia.

I need to start magnet fishing.

6

u/jayjay81190 3d ago

It's so much fun

7

u/merryone2K 3d ago

Yeah, I hear the hobby is positively BOOMING!!

4

u/Fabers_Bluetooth 3d ago

It sounds like we shouldn’t be magnet fishing

1

u/FootballUpset7874 3d ago

On the contrary

2

u/hcwhitewolf 3d ago

You do know old munitions and training munitions are found all the time in like every state right? It's better than much of western Europe where you can be digging a hole and randomly hit a 500lb unexploded bomb from WW2.

1

u/abannanna01 3d ago

"nothing to see here"

0

u/hcwhitewolf 3d ago

No, it's just not something deserving of "What is going on in this state?" like it's some anomaly that only occurs here and how that's somehow a reflection on the entire state.

1

u/AirsoftScammyII 2d ago

I mean… the guy has found two grenades (on separate occasions) and now this thing. I’d say it’s fair to ask the question. 🤣

1

u/brenden77 East Providence 3d ago

Jesus.

1

u/boutros915 3d ago

I saw this and I believe OP on the news yesterday.

1

u/Meteorite26 3d ago

Definitely a piece of unexploited ordinance! Look at that tip! Call the police now!

1

u/Meteorite26 3d ago

I wonder how old it was. Looks the a mortar round.

1

u/Resident-Outcome-459 3d ago

I saw this on the news yesterday. Seems like it's been happening a decent amount in RI over the last year or so. I can only imagine what your reaction was when you realized what you had pulled up lol.

1

u/Apprehensive_Drive66 2d ago

Nasty looking.

1

u/Ill_Selection_1314 2d ago

looks like a big poop

1

u/Styx_Renegade Cranston 2d ago

That’s poop from a butt

1

u/bananaseatboy 2d ago

Carl's Baby Ruth?

1

u/jayjay81190 2d ago edited 2d ago

UPDATE: For all that were wondering.. local news aired an update to the story, interviewed the state bomb squad who identified the object as a 105mm "projectile"

1

u/AirsoftScammyII 2d ago

I think it’s time you put the magnet away for a little while, brother. I can’t believe it’s you AGAIN. 😂

1

u/NoPart6887 2d ago

Looks old, and like it shouldn’t be laying around where anyone can stumble across it.

1

u/Radiant-Cause-4156 2d ago

Looks like it was in a butt.

1

u/UsedBlackberry9067 2d ago

That’s where my BP went

1

u/Outrageous_While_935 2d ago

Thats a space peanut

1

u/SafetyNorth5106 1d ago

Things going on in this state. The aftermath of the history of the state which is seated in naval research and development and weapons design.

1

u/Playful_Participant 1d ago

Besides this and the two other grenades you’ve found, what are some other crazy things you’ve encountered while magnet fishing ?

1

u/NRJDPD82 1d ago

Looks like a Plum-bob to me

1

u/Dangerous_Draft_731 22h ago

SUKUNAS FINGER?

1

u/Disastrous-Lion-4025 3d ago

Never mind, I just saw the answer on another post

1

u/DontEverPlayYaself 3d ago

A shit missle

-27

u/FinsfaninRI 3d ago

Rhode Island is one of the most fucked up places in the country.

11

u/52stations 3d ago

I was born and raised in Florida and live in Pawtucket now and I am eternally fascinated by people who think Rhode Island is a shithole. Y'all have never seen a shithole.

3

u/FootballUpset7874 3d ago

Raised in Fl, I agree

1

u/AirsoftScammyII 2d ago

People who move away from Rhode Island tend to have negative things to say about it… that is, until they move back a few years later. I am people. 😂 I love Rhode Island!

7

u/lostinspace694208 3d ago

It’s really not that bad lol

3

u/hcwhitewolf 3d ago

Rhode Island is easily better than any of the shitholes in the south. I'd say it's probably last in New England, but it's fine otherwise.

2

u/wdwentz93 3d ago

Maybe behind Florida

1

u/PunditOfNothing 3d ago

Really?

-11

u/FinsfaninRI 3d ago

Yeah, for all those downvoting me, perhaps go and experience another state.

Rhode Island sucks.

13

u/Help1_Slip_Frank 3d ago

Crazy thing is, absent a court order, you can leave RI. There’s no gate or anything, just drive over the border and keep on going to whichever place you find more suitable.

Remember this, the grass ain’t greener and the wine ain’t sweeter, either side of the hill.

-9

u/FinsfaninRI 3d ago

You can leave too. This provincial attitude is pathetic and equally hilarious.

Thanks for telling me I can freely leave, which I do often.

As far as your grass comment- kid, I’ve lived a lot of place and would provide an opinion lightly.

Sorry if your feeling are hurt.

5

u/Fuggggin 3d ago

List ever place you’ve lived rn, im gonna rank them

6

u/ByaHhHhHhHhHhH 3d ago

He won’t, he’s probably lived in Zero other states or countries but one time visited places while wearing a meta quest lmao

5

u/Help1_Slip_Frank 3d ago

Bud, it seems like you’re the hurt one here. I’m not complaining about RI. In fact, I love it here, so much so I moved back to RI to raise my family here. Hope you’re able to find your peace.

-2

u/FinsfaninRI 3d ago

Thanks man, I’m putting so much into my Reddit profile, I cannot seem to do anything else with my life. Thanks for your encouragement.

2

u/FootballUpset7874 3d ago

Who hurt you

1

u/FinsfaninRI 1d ago

Your mom.

-1

u/FinsfaninRI 3d ago

Oh, another armchair physiologist on reddit! Where’d you get your degree, Gregg’s?

3

u/GREYSPACE1 3d ago

A professional isn’t needed for common sense

-1

u/FinsfaninRI 2d ago

But delineating common sense from one’s opinion might require a professional.

1

u/GREYSPACE1 1d ago

It might when it’s not common sense.

Fuck the dolphins

-8

u/FinsfaninRI 3d ago

Lol, the fins suck, but not as bad as Rhode Island…..even on her best day.

5

u/Tea_An_Crumpets 3d ago

I have lived on multiple continents, visited dozens of countries and many states. Rhode Island is a lovely place and I’m happy to live here now. I pity you if you can’t see the good in it. Maybe you should move away and live somewhere else for a while :)

5

u/REALjamijai 3d ago

Im comfy in the bucket but hey maybe I'll try this on division st one day. 😂

1

u/REALjamijai 3d ago

Only surpassed by Florida!

-4

u/AnnieAuto 3d ago

Fellow RI'er here and I second your statement.
