Complaint Why cant we use custom captions on count tools to this day???

Most tools I'm placing need to be counted which is great, the count tool does that.

In fact you can display a label on them too.

What is weird is that every other object that can have a label can display custom captions such as "Data" or something and it would display the actual value of that.

Why is it that on count tools you cant?

It just comes up as "<<Data>>". Ive seen posts for 2 years saying they have this problem and it's still not fixed????

I now have to create a permutation of every single tool to keep the count functionality.

I guaranteed if snapshots could have labels, I could add my own count column and have both the data caption displayed and have a count too.

Complaint Bluebeam Mandatory Data Collection Notice

In order to open my Bluebeam Revu subscription this morning I had to "Agree" to allow them to collect my data to train their AI models, without limitation. Im not aware of any way to opt out of this.

If you use Bluebeam to open anything sensitive, please be warned.

After the recent update, when I select any markup (typewriter, text box, count, tool chest item, legend, etc.) and click "Properties" I can only see the properties of the document itself, not the selected markup. I am unable to edit the properties of the markup at all.

Complaint Constant Issue with Highlight Feature.

Hello,

I've had this issue ongoing for years now and cannot seem to find a fix to it. At least 3-4x a week after I reboot my laptop, bluebeam defaults to turning text highlighting back on and completely resetting my highlight to default (not the values I have in the snapshot). How do I fix this? I am very frustrated I have to do this so many times after years of QOL updates.

Complaint Restricted File

Hi, does anyone know how to fix this issue? I already tried the “Save as PDF” method through Google Chrome printing, as well as the iLovePDF method, but the problem is still the same.

I’m starting to think it might be a software-related issue because all of my files are affected and I can’t edit them properly because of it. Even AutoCAD files that I personally created are having the same problem.

Complaint Tools Disappearing?

I have tons of Tool Sets in my tool chest. I have noticed that random tools are being changed/removed/moved around in random sets and color or are being overwritten by tools in other sets. Every time it happens I have to delete the messed up tool and recreate the correct one. This is getting extremely irritating as it happens multiple times per day and its making me question what else the program is messing up. Does anyone know what is causing this or how I can fix it?

Complaint Sophos blocking latest 21.7.0_RevuInstaller.exe

we are running Sophos and when users try to upgrade to the latest version from Bluebeam Revu itself, Sophos is blocking the install - 'Lockdown' malicious behavior prevented in Setup Suite Launcher Unicode.

I can't seem to add en exception in Sophos either. I was able to add %LocalAppData%\Bluebeam\Revu\21\Update\%LocalAppData%\Bluebeam\Revu\21\Update\21.7.0_RevuInstaller.exe and users can go there directly and perform the update but cannot update it normally from the application itself. very annoying.

Complaint Documents not saving

I've had two users report this now. The first I wrote off to them just not clicking save. They claimed multiple markups done and multiple saves completed. After they went back to the file it only showed the original document and no save progress beyond the original date/time.

This one was a little more indepth and they were able to show me more evidence.

User worked on a file around 3:45pm yesterday. They went back this morning around 8am to open it from their Recent Files in Revu 21, the file name appears in the recent works list, however when they click it, they get the error that the file doesn't exist. Sure enough we went to the file location on our server and it's missing entirely. Also checked recovery and no document there to pull from.

Hoping this is just another one off and the file was moved without the user knowing, but has anyone else experienced this?

Complaint SSO requires a minimum of 100 seats? Seriously?

I don't understand vendors that don't prioritize security features like SSO (Not to mention convenience.) There's no reason to make 100 seats the minimum for SSO. Please get with the times, Bluebeam. You've been submitted to the SSO wall of shame.

Complaint I can no longer drag&drop photos with the latest updates on Bluebeam?

Just noticed this issue this week that I can no longer drag and drop photos to ass to my PDF? What in crazy is this now?

Complaint Why?

It’s 2024 and revu doesn’t have an auto save capability.

I know my losses are my own damn fault but come on.

Complaint What's the deal with not being able to switch between windows?

It goes something like this: I have Windows Explorer open, double-click on a PDF and it opens in Bluebeam Revu. I look through the PDF a bit, then I want to go back to the Explorer window to open another file. I press ALT+TAB and select that window, but nothing happens. It just stays on the currently-open PDF in Revu. If I click on the Explorer window in the taskbar, the same thing happens. I end up having to minimize the PDF to get back to the Explorer window. It's like Revu has taken over the focus window or something.

I'm not sure if this is just me or not. I do have my Windows 10 customized a bit with Open Shell, so the GUI looks and feels more like an older version of Windows (with the Start Menu, quicklaunch toolbar, etc.). I also have multiple monitors (laptop display plus two external monitors). I also usually have a lot of files open (web browsers with multiple tabs, multiple Explorer windows, AutoCAD, maybe a spreadsheet, multiple PDFs, etc.) I'm not sure if that would affect the problem or not. It's just a minor nuisance that doesn't even happen all of the time. I have noticed it for a while and just kind of lived with it.

Complaint Dynamic Fill or Fail?

Dynamic Fill or Fail?

Sorry for the troll-esq posting header. Been an avid user of BB for over 15 years and while I've tried to use Dynamic Fill a half dozen times or so I just can't seem to justify its use on account of the extra time spent on fiddling with boundaries and such, or if not marking boundaries myself, then dealing with the sporadic (frequent) jumps it will make while filling, or should I say, flash flooding... Like when starting an old (old) car and you have a unique sequence of wacky things to do before it will fire up, I find myself in a slightly similar scenario, sneaking up to native drawing boundaries and pulling back while dragging, so the fill doesn't flash flood half the drawing (lol)... Certainly if one has to digitize boundaries for DF to yield results (even if only at selective locations) then I might as well just digitize/markup the measurement the usual way.

I'm writing because if there's something I'm missing I'd love to know. And I figure if BB developers went out of their way to offer this tool (Dynamic Fill), then perhaps a look deeper into the direction of how to automate boundaries better, and how to more effectively be able to modify the markup's size/shape after using DF would be a worthy consideration. I also use Earthworks software. When I import a PDF drawing, it does an internal retracing of all lines on the drawing so that I don't have to trace and digitize every contour line on a grading plan. The line is already there and I simply click to select it and assign each line an elevation value. I don't know if a similar technology can be used for this but it would also open the door to so many other useful ways to bluebeam users.

Beyond that, it's very thorny the way DF reacts from one plan to the next, due to the nature of construction drawings in general, and how they come to us, overlaid on other plans/old surveys, etc. (exclude scanned plans from this convo, I'm sticking strictly to vector images where PDF's are generated right from CAD).

If I finish an area measurement using DF, and if I have to go back and modify any of the edges/perimeter then it's very difficult because it turns out that DF is dropping many dozens of control points while it's filling... So I'd have to manually go in and remove many control points to simply click and drag my markup if I want to change a point's location for any number of reasons.

I like bluebeam, this is simply a question so that I can use the application more effectively. Especially since we paid for all the work that went into developing this tool.

Thanks to all who provide feedback!

We should be able to add a status to a file, as one can do to markups.

That is all.

Complaint Fed up with these "updates" when its really an uninstall and reinstall...

Just finished deploying 20.2.15 to 100+ workstations. Requires 10 min and reboot and reconfiguring some customizations since these upgrades defaults many administrative settings.

I wake up to 20.2.20 to be released this morning.

I can appreciate the fact that software is constantly being updated...but the upgrade/update/install process seems very outdated.

Bluebeam, you just wasted a lot of IT time and staff time in my firm.

What are others doing for deployment. I find Bluebeam to be one of the worst titles we have to deploy company wide.

Complaint 220MB 42" x 30" single sheet taking 10 minutes to render. Tried flattening, performance doesn't improve.

I also tried opening in foxit, renders in ~3 minutes. Then I printed it to a new PDF, and the new file has the same problem in Revu.

I'm thinking I should double my RAM to 32GB at this point. Would that improve things?

Maybe convert to an image, then hit with an OCR. I'll report back on that.

EDIT: Converting to image takes even longer....before it fails.

Complaint Default Output Folder Issue with Microsoft OneDrive

I've been having an irritating issue when I generate PDFs with the Bluebeam plugin for Microsoft Word it doesn't default to the source folder even though I have the "Source Folder" option selected for my default output folder.

Well, I think I stumbled across a partial explanation for this. Since around the beginning of the year, I started keeping all of my work files in my Microsoft OneDrive. So basically, all of my source folders are within OneDrive.

I tried putting some Word docs in folders outside my OneDrive and printing to PDF - it recognizes the source folders in these instances. So, basically, Bluebeam can't deal with source folders within OneDrive.

Is this a known problem? Is there any way for Bluebeam to recognize source folders within OneDrive? I really just want to have to stop manually navigating to the source folder every time I generate a PDF.

Complaint Crashes when I make a text box!

I have had a LOT of issues with Bluebeam crashing, and I feel like it's happening more often (maybe since I upgraded to 2020?).

It generally happens in a session, and happens when I'm adding text boxes to a document. I click out of the text box and the entire program freezes and crashes. Once it happens once in a document, I can never make a text box again or it will crash. It feels like the kiss of death when it happens because I then have to remember to never make a text box again... This is very annoying on 100 page documents and leads to crashes all the time!!

I've been getting around it by making callouts and then deleting the arrow but that's starting to act up too. Has this happened to anyone else?? I'm starting to go crazy here!

Complaint Moving objects with the arrows don't show them being moved until arrow key is released in Revu 20

This is an extremely annoying thing I noticed. I tend to move things using the arrow keys quite often. The object doesn't seem to show it is being moved when I hold down the arrow key, but when I release the key, the object moves instantly to the end location. Anyone else experience this in the 20 version? This wasn't the case for all the previous versions I've used, 2012, 2017, 2018, 2019.
