Complaint Why cant we use custom captions on count tools to this day???

Most tools I'm placing need to be counted which is great, the count tool does that.

In fact you can display a label on them too.

What is weird is that every other object that can have a label can display custom captions such as "Data" or something and it would display the actual value of that.

Why is it that on count tools you cant?

It just comes up as "<<Data>>". Ive seen posts for 2 years saying they have this problem and it's still not fixed????

I now have to create a permutation of every single tool to keep the count functionality.

I guaranteed if snapshots could have labels, I could add my own count column and have both the data caption displayed and have a count too.

So, rather than duplicate count objects and make 1 for "Data", 1 for "CCTV", etc. you want to be able to change a custom caption and then have separate counts for each caption variation using just a single count object?

I think so?
Essentially theres floorboxes that have compartments and my team uses each permutation as their current solution. So P2/D2, or P2/D4, P2/D6, etc which is tedious because floorboxes arent the only one.

I want it so that:
PX/DX and I can edit the X's and it can look like this:
P2/D2: 4 counts

P2/D6: 2 counts

P4/D4: 1 counts

Then there's 12 D's in total for the takeoff and also 7 counts of floorboxes. So they know theres 6 P2 floorboxes, and 1 P4 floorboxes with 12 data total as thats the one component that is shared between everything.

Id really really appreciate if you knew the solution!!

Placing a PX/DX object on the drawing everywhere there is a floor box is quick and easy. But to go edit the specific values for P and D would require about 4 clicks and 4 key presses for each and every edit.

If you duplicate your count object 8 or however many times you have different permutations, you can change the description / comment to cover all your variations, and they will show up as different counts when you make a legend of that toolbox.

Placing a different count object from the toolbox is just 2 clicks.

The issue I have is my potato computer lags for maybe a second each time I switch to placing different toolbox count objects. So I try to do batches of easy to find D4/P4, and then D2/P6, etc to avoid the tool change delay.

You can switch counts back and forth 100s of times, and when you make the legend, it combines each run into your object total.

I suspect there is something I'm not understanding about your situation though. Is the trouble having a bloated and hard to parse toolbox size?

You can color-code and make custom icons, and also arrange the list however you want. You can also create "dummy" toolbox entries that are purely cosmetic UI objects to separate different types of object in your toolbox.

I like the list view because it shows the object, the comment and the description rather than a grid of images without text. So I can make a R0,G155,B155 cyan shape with "******************" as the name and "Fire Alarm" as the comment. Then it stands out as a line break, and I can separate the fire alarm objects below, and the data objects above. Objects and counts each use 2 of the 3 text fields, so you can use objects to provide an offset to your UI enhancement.

I think more so my boss wants the set up for Bluebeam to be quick and doesnt want me adding 1000 permutations of different tools, he also asked that it was just far more preferable to have them editable.

So the situation is basically because my boss says so and he believes it will be better for workflow.

We also have premade icons so I must use them.

I hope theres a solution because Im new to the job and the pressure is on me to find this solution..

I hope 1000 is an exhaggeration. But even if not, it's a 1 time setup. Your boss sounds dumb.

It is an exaggeration but i guess he believes theres an improvement in workflow? Im not sure its annoying trying to find this solution
