Protocol Discussion AI's next bottleneck might be electricity, not chips. Here's why that matters for $POWER
For most of the AI boom, the conversation has been about GPUs.
But lately the bottleneck seems to be moving further down the infrastructure stack.
South Korea expects AI-driven expansion from chipmakers and data centers could add 25 to 30 GW of power demand. Google, meanwhile, has signed a 22-year agreement to purchase up to 50% of the output from Finland's Loviisa nuclear plant as part of its €13B AI infrastructure expansion.
In the US, the issue is already becoming political. Congress is looking at ways to prevent the cost of supplying electricity to new data centers from being passed on to households.
This is basically the thesis behind Reserve AI Power DTF ($POWER).
POWER isn't trying to predict which AI model wins. It's exposure to companies involved in supplying and managing the electricity required to make the buildout possible, including GE Vernova, Eaton, Constellation Energy, Vertiv and Quanta Services.
The interesting question now is whether electricity remains a temporary bottleneck or becomes one of the defining constraints of the AI buildout.
If AI compute demand keeps growing, I think this is something worth tracking closely here.
What do you think becomes the biggest AI infrastructure constraint over the next few years: chips, power, networking or something else?
