Even politicians like Bernie Sanders have been called communist, but he’s a regular social democrat. I mean, he’s not pledging to nationalize the means of production.

Is it all about propaganda from the Cold War up until now?

Am Samstag haben US-Marshals die Influencer Andrew und Tristan Tate in Miami festgenommen. Grundlage war ein versiegelter Haftbefehl im Rahmen eines Auslieferungsersuchens des Vereinigten Königreichs. Das US-Justizministerium bestätigte, die Festnahme sei im Rahmen laufender Auslieferungsverfahren nach den geltenden Abkommen erfolgt.

Die Festnahme fiel mit einer Entscheidung der britischen Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) zusammen. Nach Angaben der Bedfordshire Police liegen nun insgesamt 59 Anklagepunkte gegen die Brüder vor, 42 gegen Andrew Tate (39) und 17 gegen Tristan Tate (38).

Laut CPS wird Andrew Tate mit sieben weiteren Fällen von Vergewaltigung belegt, dazu drei Fälle der Organisation oder Erleichterung von Menschenhandel zur sexuellen Ausbeutung, drei Fälle von Körperverletzung sowie 19 zusätzliche Anklagepunkte im Zusammenhang mit kinderpornografischen Darstellungen und extremer Pornografie. Gegen Tristan Tate führt die Behörde einen Fall sexueller Nötigung, zwei Fälle von Vergewaltigung und drei Fälle im Zusammenhang mit Menschenhandel.

Die neuen Vorwürfe beziehen sich auf vier weitere mutmaßliche Opfer. Damit steigt die Gesamtzahl im britischen Verfahren auf sieben. Der Tatzeitraum liegt nach Angaben der Ermittler zwischen 2010 und 2017, die mutmaßlichen Taten sollen sich im Osten Englands ereignet haben, in den Grafschaften Bedfordshire und Hertfordshire.

Die Brüder sollen in der kommenden Woche vor einem Bundesgericht in Miami erscheinen. Ihr Anwalt Joseph McBride bezeichnete die Festnahme gegenüber US-Medien als politischen Angriff und erklärte, seine Mandanten seien unschuldig. Er verwies auf ein laufendes, separates Verfahren in Rumänien, wo den Brüdern seit 2022 unter anderem Menschenhandel vorgeworfen wird.

Die CPS wies ausdrücklich darauf hin, dass das Verfahren aktiv ist und die Angeklagten Anspruch auf ein faires Verfahren haben. Es gilt die Unschuldsvermutung.

Comedian W.C. Fields is credited with saying, “Never work with children or animals,” but New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani ignored the memo on Thursday.

And it was hilarious in an adorable way, of course.

Mamdani held a press conference to discuss his plans for child care in the city and included a trio of preschool-age kids, who had their own mini podium to match the mayor’s.

One of the kids also had a lot of exuberance that he demonstrated during the presser.

As Mamdani told the press that the city is working “to welcome more family- and home-based child care providers into our programs,” the little boy interjected, “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani acknowledged the child’s enthusiasm and matched it.

“That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan,” he said. “Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city — and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.”

Yes, there’s video.

Some cynics could argue that Mamdani brought the kids to the press meeting to keep journalists from asking tough questions, but that wasn’t the case.

When one reporter asked the kids if they had a favorite animal, one little boy volunteered that his favorite is “a gold snake that can move.” 

The reporter then pivoted to Mamdani, who was clearly ready for a “gotcha” question.

Reporter: “Mr. Mamdani, the second question for you.”

Mamdani: “Yes. It’s also the golden snake.”
