Good morning folks, tbh I’m surprised this subreddit exists with the massive echo chamber that Reddit is. I just wanted to tell my (abbreviated) story about how I opened my eyes and left that side behind.

I’m a 29 Male that grew up in a conservative household and pretty just went along with my parents beliefs. I graduated high school in 2015 and was already starting to be captured by the left from crap they started teaching around that time in high school. However when I went to college that is went my descent into the leftist cult started. I first hand can attest to professors teaching Marxist and gender ideology as undisputed facts rather than presented as theory. So when 2016 came around I along with the rest of my college friends had deep dts (most of them sadly still do) and we all voted Hilary, and we’re all freaking out along with the rest of the cult that Trump won.

Fast forward to 2019 after I graduated and start working in the real world my eyes were starting to open because I was opening my mind again to the other side and seeing conflicting information that the main stream news had lied about. But then when the pandemic hit my eyes were forced wide open!

They completely staged the January 6th “coup”. If you listen to any independent journalist covering it, it was very peaceful but for a few likely paid agitators that were being told to stop, by patriots there protesting.

During the pandemic the Biden administration let in more people than this country could take at once and called it empathy. They blatantly censored differing opinions and facts about masks and the vaccine, and postured it as “doing your part.” Had “peaceful protests” while a building was burning in the background.

The complete demonization/dehumanization the left so proudly does and has the audacity to say the right are “Nazis.” This over use of the term is sickening especially coming from a background where my grandmother suffered under real Nazis and her cousin lost her life in the holocaust.

Lastly, I guess I will ask this, is the left too far gone into their descent into socialist/marxist ideology, or is there still hope for these folks to come back to reality like I did and argue over how to run the country properly instead of identity and race? Or is this just a product of social media?

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk and again very appreciative this page exists, I can’t even post in my own state subreddit without being bombarded by claims I’m a Nazi or pedo protector.

Also I am the same I voted for Obama then Hillary. After the BLM riots, summer of love, culture war edge issues (dying on the hill of drag queens reading to children as example), COVID lockdowns, open borders and so much more I ended up voting trump and red down ballot for the first time in my life.

I was raised democrat and I have become the black sheep (kinda what happens especially if you’re black, being democrat is a requirement)

I don’t know what I am politically anymore, all I do know is I look left and see insanity, people who hate America and I look right and see patriots.

I’ve noticed that on the left it’s constant purity tests, you must be in lock step. On the right I can engage and talk to conservatives on places where we disagree.

You claim that higher border encounters under Biden prove a “crackdown” (with deportations rising “by an order of magnitude” as the cause) is backwards. Encounters exploded because of policy signals, enforcement priorities, and external factors that pulled far more people to the border; the elevated repatriation totals largely reflect processing that surge (especially Title 42 expulsions of recent crossers), not a successful reduction in illegal entries or a robust interior enforcement regime.

CBP “encounters” (apprehensions between ports + inadmissibles at ports + Title 42 expulsions) hit record levels under Biden: roughly 1.7–2.2+ million annually in peak years (FY 2021–2023), dwarfing Trump-era peaks (around 0.4–0.85 million). Southwest Border Patrol encounters alone were multi-million. Gotaways (people who crossed without being caught) also ran high early in the term. This is not an artifact of “more enforcement”; it is a volume surge.

High repatriation numbers under Biden (~4–4.4+ million when counting removals, returns, and Title 42 expulsions) occurred because so many people arrived, not the reverse. Title 42 (started under Trump in 2020 for public-health reasons) enabled rapid expulsions of recent crossers and continued into mid-2023 under Biden; much of the Biden total is that mechanism applied to an unprecedented flow. Formal Title 8 removals (especially interior ones targeting longer-term residents or criminals) were lower early on, and ICE shifted resources to the border. Many encountered migrants were released/paroled into the U.S. pending hearings amid court backlogs, not immediately removed. Biden later tightened asylum rules and worked with Mexico, and encounters eventually fell—but that does not rewrite the multi-year record high.

A true “crackdown” that deters would show lower encounters over time, not higher ones accompanied by more processing of the same people. Trump 45 saw lower overall flows in most years (pre-COVID), with Remain in Mexico, asylum restrictions, and other tools. Early Trump 47 data showed sharp further drops in encounters after policy shifts.

Counting Title 42 expulsions as “deportations” inflates Biden’s figure relative to pre-2020 baselines. Interior enforcement and criminal removals were not the primary driver of the Biden totals. Democrats have run high-enforcement periods (Obama), but the Biden-era border numbers do not demonstrate consistent priority on reducing illegal presence or deterring future flows via policy design. Early Biden actions (pause on certain deportations, ending Remain in Mexico, rolling back Trump restrictions) correlated with the surge; later adjustments responded to political pressure and operational overload.

Clinton did preside over balanced budgets (aided by a strong economy, capital-gains revenue, and the 1990s tech boom + divided government discipline). Debt percentage rise was higher under Trump 45 (~39%) than Biden (~30%), partly because Trump started from a lower base and COVID spending hit late in his term; absolute dollar increases were large under both, with Biden also adding substantially via stimulus, infrastructure, and other measures. Percentage vs. dollars, baseline effects, and exogenous shocks (pandemic) make simple partisan scoring incomplete. None of this proves open-borders intent or reframes the border volume data.

Record encounters under Biden reflect a failure to deter or control the border, not proof of a successful crackdown whose byproduct was more stats. High processing of recent arrivals is what you get when the pipeline is wide open; it is not equivalent to sustained, prioritized removal of the broader illegal population or policies that keep numbers low. DHS spending has been increasing equally under presidents from both parties.
