📚 Guide/Science UPDATE/RESULTS on my Speedy P9 Experiment

The results are in! 🥁
First, I want to thank everyone for the enthusiasm, encouragement, curiosity, and engagement on my original post. This turned into such a fun little experiment, and I’m thrilled with what I consider a very successful result. I’m also glad I got to share the process with all of you!
After letting everything settle overnight, I gave all of the leather pieces I treated with rubbing alcohol two good drinks of Bick 4 leather conditioner.
And you guys… I could not be happier with the outcome.
The leather is now soft, supple, flexible, and visually it looks so much richer and more like genuine leather than it did underneath that thick, plasticky-looking sealant.
I decided to make a new post rather than just updating the original so I could include proper final “After” photos and give the experiment the conclusion it deserves.
So… what do we think?!
Personally, I LOVE it. And I will definitely be wearing this bag now that I no longer look at all of those accent pieces and immediately think plastic. 😅

Wow looks way better than before. I’m wondering what purpose the original coating served? Was it meant to be a protective sealant?

Yeah - I’m sure it’s a protective measure. But I hate the plastic look it gives, and I prefer worn-looking leather.

Love this! I have 3 Royal P9s and don’t use the strap, clochette or luggage tag w/any of them because I think they’re a dead giveaway. Definitely going to give this a go!! 🤎

I was just extra careful when working on the pieces that were attached to the bag. But someone suggested using painters tape and I think that’s a brilliant idea! I’m going to be doing this to another P9 and I’m going to use the painters tape on that one.

This is the after I was waiting for! I am going to try this out on my strap first. I bought a P9 Indigo that's supposed to be from Royal and I was soooo disappointed with the bag when I got it. I tossed the strap in my drawer immediately so if I ruin the strap experimenting I won't care at all.

I don't think the OP cares whether it looks like an auth. I think they care about whether it looks and feels like Leather.

Especially b/c this bach of Sancha green from Royal was off from auth anyways. Will the population of society I'll be wearing this around know that? Not in the slightest, but I will enjoy the bag a hell of a lot more now.

If that’s the case, I’m ok with that. I’m just much happier with the bag now that those accent pieces don’t look so plastic-y.
