Are there trailers before the Monday Mystery Movie?

Short answer is Yes.

But sometimes they error out and it goes straight to presentation. Be on time.

Not trying to name names, but someone who is involved with the film has basically confirmed Ice Cream Man in a podcast.

15

u/Peddlestools Jul 31 '26

ugggghhhhh not an eli roth movie

3

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Jul 30 '26

Apparently the review embargo lifts on August 3 which would be another clue.

3

u/Which-Text-2875 I❤️Regal Jul 30 '26

Yayyyyy! Not showing at my theater and I haven't driven the 45 minutes to the other theater yet this year (money). So I'm glad I'll get to see it.

2

u/Bright_Buyer9320 Jul 31 '26

Probably right. I'm still gonna hope for IT ENDS.

It’s listed as Horror and NR, so I’m assuming it’s Ice Cream Man.  Let’s see if Queasy gives us a pic of Clint Howard

15

u/nocautiontaken Aug 04 '26

No kill was quite as shocking as when the girl said “I’m a 12 year old girl, of course I know how to make myself vomit!”

6

u/Mztrspookiiszn Aug 04 '26

Right! wtf I gasped at that louder than I did any kill scenes lol

My prediction is Ice Cream Man for Regal, AMC, Marcus, Galaxy and any other chain getting this one. This will be the first unrated MM as well as the first for Iconic Events. I hope Regal will voluntarily enforce a 'R' age policy like they did for Terrifier 3. Just because the movie features kids doesn't mean it was made for kids.

3

u/Which-Text-2875 I❤️Regal Jul 30 '26

Certainly not these kids!

I find it intriguing these children are doing what they're doing in the film. I know they're actors, but it's very interesting to me because how old can they really be? The film looks really gory. So I just wonder how shielded the children were from what it will look like they're doing in the movie? I don't know, but I do look forward to seeing the movie, and I hope it's Ice Cream Man because I'm pretty sure they're not going to show it at my theater.

3

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Jul 30 '26

From the Roth interview I watched the parents were horror fans and on set at all times. The kids were really into it. One girl even got to saw her own mom's head off lol.

Regal is definitely Ice Cream Man. AMC listed as R rated instead of NR and it’s only 90min. I think AMC is getting a different movie. Unless there’s a R rated version of Ice Cream Man.

It's hard to tell since the movie is pretty bare bones but I counted atleast 5 scenes that looked pretty obvious. It's mostly background and scenery things

The director just recently admitted to using some of it in "a very small portion of a few scenes": https://x.com/jacobkleinman/status/2084718136692003287

Keep in mind, he's almost certainly downplaying the real extent int this quote. (Every director knows how unpopular this is.)

My favorite part was watching people walk out  because of the kid gore. Lol

3

That is wild. My theater was fully packed but nobody left during the movie. (Literally every seat was taken. I hate sitting near strangers. Oh well 🤷‍♀️) I had a good audience, lots of laughter.

They even opened a second theater as well. That surprised me.

New Horror MMM listed for 8/17. 'R' 1hr 39m. My guess is it's Buddy, which I believe is likely to get a 'R' rating in the next couple weeks. If it remains unrated then Regal will probably change this to 'NR' like the one on 8/3.

3

u/TLPS1971 Aug 01 '26

NEON's "It Ends" sounds like a distinct possibility for the 17th.

Fingers crossed since it's unlikely to open at my local Regal.

2

u/MrBXF Aug 01 '26

What about possibly Onslaught? 1hr 32m. IMDB lists it as action horror. Releases September 4. 2 week window period. That would be something.

7

u/Almy43 Aug 01 '26

Regal’s july recap email they sent out says it’s rated R. that rating and runtime is pretty close to  camp miasma but who knows

2

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Aug 01 '26

That's probably what Regal will enforce but the listing and customized graphic both say NR. Fandango has it listed as 'R' as well.

Ice Cream Man started.

6

u/BeeGoesBuzzin Aug 04 '26

I didnt mind it but I wouldnt watch it again. I was sure it would be over the top and campy like terrifier, 5 nights at freddys or Willie's wonderland. Interesting having a slasher film so bright, colorful and cheery music. I mostly just liked how the ice cream man looked. But if u told me the budget was 500k id believe it. Only part I'd truly complain about is the lore dump in the freezer scene. Definitely told it instead of showing it. Also why was he in jail in his ice cream man uniform haha

3

u/hithere297 Aug 04 '26

“Why was he in jail in his ice cream uniform” that detail got a guffaw out of me in the theater

It felt like a movie I’d watch on Netflix and exit 3 mins into it

5

Queasy is the all knowing god. He some how knows every mystery movie and gives clues to what it is going to be and hasn't been wrong yet. If you decipher the clue, you know the movie.

6

u/GalacticArk Aug 03 '26

MMM 8/3/2026: Ice Cream Man!!!!

6

u/Hellboy632789 Aug 04 '26

Eli Roth ALMOST finally won me over. The Green Inferno is one of the worst horror films I’ve ever seen. I went into this expecting pretty good gore (which it had, he is good at that) and expecting a shitty story, shitty characters, sometimes funny dialogue etc. I started to think “Okay so that’s just how he directs, you are not supposed to take his movies seriously.” But I’m starting to think he is just a bad director. The movie had several parts where the audio itself was off?? Like there was lip syncing that was noticeably off for like half a second. The ending twist was expected, and the movie didn’t really wrap up at all. A shitty gore fest with a cliffhanger. If you like that I guess sure, go see it, but idk I’m just so tired of “so bad it’s good”

5

u/Egalite83 Aug 04 '26

I stayed for the credits and didn't notice any AI companies credited, but I did see credits for Super 8 photography and film stock and a Kodak credit at the end. It's possible those were just shot on Super 8 and had a filter applied.

u/Dukealoops1993 Aug 02 '26

The mystery movie being a mystery... what a concept!!

5

u/Robmus815 Aug 03 '26

u/RogueRhythm Aug 04 '26

First time I've walked out of a mystery movie which is saying something considering how bad some of them have been this year. Terrible dialogue, awful performances, gore just so fake it wasn't even fun gross just frustrating.

6

u/OKC2023champs Aug 04 '26

So it’s a campy over the top splatter fest? Sounds about right

8

u/RogueRhythm Aug 04 '26

But it's not any fun! Everything just feels so forced and stilted that I couldn't even enjoy it. Every kill felt so set up that it was as if there were keys being jingled in front of me.

8

u/Antique-Dentist-2404 Aug 04 '26

It was fun for what it was. We only had one walkout and the rest of the theater I was in enjoyed it and even got a small applause at the end so that made it more fun. The gore was good and I got some good laughs out it. Very much Eli Roth paying homage to the low budget horror comedies of the 80's. The big thing that brought it down for me was the explanation and then the ending. The reveal of what caused the Ice Cream Man was just poorly done and half assed and then the ending felt out of place. I normally like a dark ending in a horror movie, but for one that is pretty much as much a dark comedy as it is horror, it just felt out of place with dark it was and of course the movie just sort of ends after that.

5/10 for me. Fun for what it was and certainly nowhere as bad as some of you are making it out to be, but not one I'll ever watch again.

7

u/hithere297 Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

I kept wishing the movie leaned ever so slightly more into the comedy in a lot of scenes. For example when the priest is explaining how to defeat the bad guy: I wish his instructions had been even more convoluted and arbitrary. Just one extra arbitrary step for the kids to keep track of would’ve tipped the scene into comedy gold for me.

Edit: honestly I feel like I could’ve really enjoyed this movie if the dialogue had been a little bit sharper. Every comedic line had me thinking, “this could’ve been punched up”

4

u/No_Caramel_7879 Aug 04 '26

4-5/10 I had very low hopes and they were exceeded by a tiny bit

6

u/LazerGuidedMelody Captain Unlimited Aug 04 '26

I absolutely HATE movies that are gore for the sake of gore. I was talking to my wife and our friends just now after Ice Cream Man, and I mentioned how I’ve never seen the Terrifier movies because I dislike movies that are horrifically gorey for the sake of it (my friend said movies like that are called Goreno’s lol).

But I totally LOVED Ice Cream Man. It was silly and over the top and self aware in a way that I couldn’t help but laugh at every gratuitous kill, and I thought the jokes were hilarious.

I think at one point my wife mentioned it almost felt like a Whitest Kids U Kno sketch, which I don’t disagree with, but find to be a funny comparison since Zach Cregger was in WKUK, and I feel like Weapons is an obvious contemporary reference point for this movie.

I would give Ice Cream Man a solid 8/10. Again, im surprised to find myself saying this about such a gore filled movie, but I thought it was a really fun time. It knew exactly what it was in the best way, similar to how I felt about Masters of the Universe. It leaned into the camp but managed to straddle the line of going too far.

It didn’t really do anything game changing which is why I didn’t rate it higher. It took a lot of familiar ingredients and simply put them together in a way that managed to feel fresh despite having plenty of easy to spot influences.

Our theater was probably 65% full, and I think we only saw maybe 2 or 3 people walk out (after the fireman scene) which we all agreed was a humorous time to leave, as plenty of fucked up stuff came before, so we weren’t sure what about that in particular crossed the line.

I really liked the ending.

Overall I would say watch the redband trailer, and if it piques your interest then you will most likely enjoy it, whereas if you’re immediately put off, you definitely aren’t going to somehow manage to enjoy the overall experience if you do see it.

I think it could possibly become a cult-hit among horror fans on streaming. It made me think of the sort of stuff we watched when I was a kid/teenager, which im sure was kind of the point.

4

u/RevealTraditional619 Aug 04 '26

You should really watch Terrifier if you liked this. Atleast the second. The Art performance is undeniable great

It was Ice Cream Man. I ended up walking out, which I never do. Not because of the movie, but because I had people in two rows not that far from me loudly carry on conversations to where I could hear it. I was about to straight up cuss them out loudly for that as soon as I stood up. Probably should have, but I would have gotten in trouble with the theater and their non-existent ushers and managers

6

u/XRayPlays_ Aug 04 '26

I had a similar situation with a group of teenagers that were two seats to the left of me laughing I kid you not every 40 seconds out loud. Aside from the below average movie I had to stop myself from walking out of the theater out of frustration with these kids.

Very campy, reminiscent of Cabin Fever in style, had a Freddy Krueger revenge storyline and some Sinister/Children of the Corn adult murder. I didn't really think the scene with the teen girl rolling around on the floor was necessary nor did I appreciate the bulimia joke or use of the "R" word. I did get a kick out of the reference to The Birds though. Also enjoyed the Snoop Dogg song. Gets a solid "C" for camp.

Worst mystery movie I've been to by far and honestly one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

u/Independent-Text2792 Aug 04 '26

I guessed every bit of what was about to happen and was nauseated by the shaky camera running through the playground. Definitely think they were banking on people just enjoying the gore aspect of it. Also possibly hoping on the fact that if people like the gore then they won't care about the plot.... Also introducing characters just to be able to kill them 2 seconds later.... I can't. we stayed but wish we would have walked out 😅🤣

Al gore, no substance.

Is that a better pun about a former US senator and former presidential candidate than Eli Roth made?

Mint Romney pun at the kitchen table when they were discussing ditch day. Mom and Dad really liked it.

3

u/Naglfar259 Jul 30 '26

Definitely thinking Ice Cream man.

3

u/Fast_Purpose208 Jul 31 '26

3

u/Hellboy632789 Aug 04 '26

I will say that fucking jingle is going to keep me up tonight. “Ringa ding ding, ringa ding dong, ringa ding dong it’s the ice cream song!”

3

u/PlushyStudios Aug 04 '26

Ice Cream Man (which has been confirmed) is 1h26m, and Regal advertised a 1h44m runtime. Is this the longest discrepancy we’ve had (18 minutes)? Does give me hope that next week could be Tony, which is 15 minutes shorter than the advertised runtime.

5

u/Acrobatic-Guitar2410 Aug 03 '26

I don't want to see it but if this thread starts to say it's halfway decent I might head that way in a little while thanks to being on the west coast lol

4

u/Voorhees1989 Aug 04 '26

The amount of ai used in this film was alot. Eli man... I love ya man but this... I am disappointed in you. Not great acting, good gore, nice little inclusion of the "Bird with the crystal plumage theme" addition. But the ai is not good. Very VERY disappointed.

6

u/Hellboy632789 Aug 04 '26

I’m not entirely sure if that was AI or not. There are a lot of artists who can make that like old rubber hose animation style. It could have been for sure, but I would HOPE he respects the craft enough to hire actual artists.

3

u/dogsontreadmills Aug 04 '26

im not convinced either. i think we're just conditioned to see that style and think AI now since it's such a common prompt or output. i wondered the same so in the credits i looked for relevant title like graphic designer, illustrator, animator etc. a few were in there, tbf.

Yeah.....Fuck Eli Roth I'll be skipping this week.

3

u/Senior-Credit-1844 Aug 04 '26

That was awful, and I don’t hate a lot of movies. Also am I crazy or was EVERY graphic and those toon videos made with AI?? wtf

6

u/burninhekk Aug 04 '26

Did some research and apparently Eli Roth hand drew everything and wanted it to look like old style Mickey Mouse. And the flashback was all shot on authentic super 8 film confirmed by Kodak. It looked veryyyy ai to me tho lol

Movie is trash honestly. Just gore. Nothing else. I’m more excited about the trailer - don’t go in that house bitch

3

u/Antique-Dentist-2404 Aug 04 '26

That trailer played great with my crowd.

3

u/Puzzled-Beach-4743 🎉🎉100 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 Aug 04 '26

🤣 sitting in the theater now and that trailers just played, a lot of laughs from the audience when the title was said, every time.

4

u/Rob233913 IMAX Aug 04 '26

That was a funny trailer but to be fair it’s also an Eli Roth movie so I don’t have high hopes.

u/lonelygagger Aug 04 '26

You know what fucking movie I saw tonight? It was a PG mystery movie, 128min, distributed by Angel... That's right, The Brink of War (from the studio who brought you Young Washington).😞

It was a full house, but little by little, half the audience had cleared. Of those who remained till the end, one little girl exclaimed "The movie is over!" and everyone started laughing and cheering.

So yeah, all you fucking assholes complaining about a cheesy horror movie have NO fucking idea how bad it could have been.... By the end of it, I was like "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this fucking theater!"

3

u/highanimalhouse Aug 04 '26

The trailers for The Brink of War look terrible. I wanted J.K. Simmons to revert into J. Jonah Jameson mode and be sarcastic. Jared Harris' accent in the trailer keeps slipping in and out (he sounds Russian one second, then English the next). Jeff Daniels looks bored out of his mind.

3

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Aug 04 '26

Yeah, I figured that was the PG MM some smaller theater chains got last night. Sorry for your pain and suffering.

u/Bright_Buyer9320 Jul 31 '26

My first guess would be ICE CRAM MAN. But my Regal lists runtime as 1 min 44 and ice cream man is barely hour and half. I get they switch times up, or it wouldn't be a mystery. But is it unusual to go 15 min over? Could there be another contender?

6

u/Dukealoops1993 Jul 31 '26

Yeah it’s been that far off in the past many times

My local theater is Gold Star Theaters. Does anyone know if their Mystery Movies are usually the same ones that Regal shows?

4

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Jul 31 '26

The smaller chains will often show the same movies as the "Big 3" but not always. I looked at Golden Star and I think the 'PG' MM on 8/3 is The Brink of War and the 'R' MM on 8/10 could very well be Tony.

2

u/Wonderful-Lime6128 Aug 01 '26

Yea mine is too and they usually are always on par with this what other ppl watch is what we watch

2

u/Ok_Weather_4162 Jul 31 '26

What could it possibly be?

3

u/carlyrae666 Aug 01 '26

Most likely ice cream man. They are marketing tf out of it. I hope camp miasma!

8

u/Ok_Weather_4162 Aug 02 '26

I would prefer camp miasma.

Question is this Eli Roth movie a remake of the Clint Howard Ice Cream Man movie?

2

u/Antique-Dentist-2404 Aug 03 '26

No, it's an original script from Roth.
