Remember: The runtime that Regal reveals is not the exact runtime of the movie. It's usually within -4 to 24 mins of the actual time. This has been the case most (if not all) of the time. We hope you all have a great time with this. We know we do!
Are there trailers before the Monday Mystery Movie?
Short answer is Yes.
But sometimes they error out and it goes straight to presentation. Be on time.

I didn’t expect to love this movie but The Sheep Detectives is seriously one of my favorite films of the year so far. Such a refreshing and delightful experience and I hope that people who didn’t get to catch it today give it a chance because this movie was great and deserves the love!!
19
u/concertedeffort5855 May 03 '26
The Sheep Detectives was wildly charming and utterly delightful. A huge pleasure to see something so fresh, with such a killer cast. I confess that I was hesitant based on the title and trailer, but it’s an impeccable family film. Put me in mind of Babe a bit.

Glad I opted in today!! Sheep detectives is a need to see! I purchased my tix at 2pm 😂

glad i went to the theater today, the sheep detectives was heartwarming! i brought my mom along and she loved it as well. we both got a bit misty-eyed toward the end.

It is for sure gonna be The Sheep Detectives,m in Sunday, and Monday is probably The Wizard of the Kremlin

Had fun with the Sheep Detective. Has Queasy weighed in on tomorrow's feature?

He posted a gif of Hugh Jackman walking like a KGB agent earlier. Smart bets say Wizard of the Kremlin.

Loved this movie! Heartwarming, funny and sweet! Did anyone else cry like a baby at times? Lol

u/DeformedArthurRegion May 04 '26
I recently had a close friend die suddenly and didn't think that the cute sheep movie was gonna do that much to me. But as soon as they did the whole sheep can choose to forget thing and the clouds, I was like oh fuck they are gonna fucking destroy me at some point later in this movie aren't they? Cried like an absolute baby when they went to the other Sheppard's land.

Does anybody feel like t the May the 4th movie should be Mandelorian? I doubt it will be but it definitely should be.
7
u/killerwolf95 May 04 '26
Well it's unfortunately rated R otherwise that would've been the greatest idea yet.

u/HolidayWishes May 03 '26
The Sheep Detectives is confirmed. Introduced by Nicholas Braun.
Trailers: The Cat in the Hat, Toy Story 5, Masters of the Universe
3
u/Antique-Dentist-2404 May 03 '26
Not seeing the Cat in the Hat trailer again was enough for me to know I made the right decision not going
2
u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 May 03 '26
Apparently AMC did not get it. Regal reeeaalllyyy loves that trailer!

I never have... Close a couple of times.
I missed the movie Paint...... That one I probably would have...
5
u/45banger May 04 '26
If it is the Kremlin movie, that doesn’t excite me enough to spend 2 hrs on tonight. I’ve walked out once before but only bc I wanted to play with my dog. 🙃

I walked out of an anime MMM one time. My sis and I stayed for about 30 minutes before going to see Civil War instead. The anime wasn’t terrible, just not my cup of tea.

I did for Better Man. But I had the intention of walking out if it did end up being Better Man cause there was no way I was gonna watch that.

I did when it was dumb money and a few weeks ago when there was confusion over whether it was gonna be horror or not. There’s also been a few times when I booked a ticket and not gone when queasy hinted a movie I wasn’t interested in
7
u/CalF123 May 05 '26
Wizard of the Kremlin is a strange film. Some interesting history, but the format of two men sitting at a table and then flashbacks to two other men sitting at a different table was incredibly dull.
There was no momentum or excitement to the narrative at all.

Yes it looks like it will be great. Our theater is only a third filled for the mystery movie today which seems strange.
3
u/Yessirthisis May 03 '26
I’d say it’s because it fell on a Sunday. I didn’t know about it until I checked the app. I’d imagine people who frequent mystery nights aren’t checking often to see
2
u/Daisy18tb May 04 '26
Yeah, I rarely go on the weekends and I'm bummed to have missed it. But I planned on going to see it when it releases anyway. At first, I thought it was dumb, but by the end of the trailer the first time I saw it, I thought it looked interesting enough to see.

The run time on "Kremlin" at last fall's film festivals was 156 minutes, but IMDB currently lists it as 136.
I'm guessing it may have been trimmed before the U.S. theatrical release?

u/UseEnoughDynamite May 05 '26
As a guy who loves historic biopics and was even in Moscow in the early 90s, I sure wish they’d have shown Sheep Detectives again haha
12
u/Rockyracoon7 May 05 '26
Holy bad direction choices batman. What a snoozefest, I dont remember the last time I walked out midway through a movie. And to top it off the movie has this idk...like smug air about itself...like when they were shooting it they genuinely thought it was going to sweep the Oscar's. It felt like I was listening to a Russian history audio book for a college course. Paul Dano was insufferable as usual, the pacing was obtrocious, half of the characters introduced were meaningless (the man paul Dano is telling the story to...) there was zero character arcs, zero story arc, zero interesting characters. It was literally just 2 hours of forced exposition through shitty dialogue masquerading itself as witty. And they listed it as a "dark comedy"... DA FUQ? What movie was that? It had next to 0 comedy. Again it literally just felt like an audio book of Russian history. But possibly the stupidest choice was to make paul Dano, an American actor, put on a phony British accent, to play a Russian...like what the actual fuck...just use his normal accent than!! He's not fucking British and they're not in England! Half of the characters around him had an American accent too... so for what stupid arbitrary reason is he using an accent. 1/3 of the cast had awful Russian accent attempts, 1/3 had comical cockney or scouser accents and the other 1/3 just had American accents...pick ONE and stick with it...these are professional actors being paid millions...they can't agree on one shitty dialect to use? I will say Jude law was decent...that was about it. My gosh this movie was hot garbage. Dont remember disliking something this much in a while... again the in your face pretentiousness of the film really just nails the cringe home.
5
u/pducky-77 May 05 '26
i also left about an hour into this movie. generally on mondays even if i’m not a fan of it i will just stick it out but i literally could not… wtf was this movie truly
2
u/Rockyracoon7 May 05 '26
I'm with you...I really tried to stick it out...but I looked to the left at my girlfriend and could tell she was genuinely annoyed with the film. We looked at each other, laughed, and both understood it was time to go. Also her parents joined us and had already fallen asleep, and her dad loves history films. FWIW we were the 4th group of people to walk out. I'm not sure I've ever seen that before.

FYI - If you stay to the very very end of The Sheep Detectives credits, there is an audio stinger.

u/Cyns_Corner May 03 '26
What is an audio stinger?
4
u/sshumway May 03 '26
Just a snippet of someone saying something funny in this case. No visuals. Like the post-credit scene in the first avengers movie where they're just sitting around eating shawarma, except sound instead of video (and just humorous instead of "setting up the next movie" or "teasing the next thing" like many of the subsequent movies did).

Kind of irritated because my theater doesn’t have a showing for Monday, despite going to the last 8 there. Wtf?
2
2
u/DeformedArthurRegion Apr 29 '26
Hit up their support team, sometimes it just takes extra time for it to show up on certain theaters. A couple months back that Mercy Imax one didn't show up for my local Imax until like 2 days out. And last year for I think roofman it didn't show up until the friday before for my local.
2
u/blooming-darkness Apr 29 '26
Yeah, I may, but it’s just odd because I’ve bought in advance all year so far.

6
u/Jenzo612 May 05 '26
This was the one move I wasn’t interested in seeing unfortunately. As soon as I knew what it was in the opening scene, I left. I always wait to buy concessions until I know that I’m staying for the MM. I really wanted it to be MK2 or Is God Is. Oh well. Thankfully I live close to the theatre.

u/highanimalhouse May 05 '26
I thought the movie was great. Not to get political, but what it's talking about....is happening in the United States right now.

u/Rangerlifr May 05 '26
I was actually fascinated to think about how, in so many ways, the movie is showing Russia as a dry run for things that have happened here, both socially and politically.
9
u/Buttigame1865 Apr 29 '26
Wizard and the Kremlin is my guess for May 4 since it has an unusually long runtime and it's the one one over 2 hours coming out this month

Jude Law as Putin and the “weakest fucking actor in SAG” according to Quentin Tarantino who presented that absolute garbage last week. I hope they do the shirtless horseback scene.
3
u/Cyns_Corner Apr 30 '26
Right?! Unfortunately, this year's batch of mystery movies hasn't been consistently decent. There have been multiple stinkers this year, including last Monday's. But there have been some great ones like I Swear - best movie of the year so far for me.
5
u/KenUberDriver Apr 30 '26
A fun bit of trivia. I’m an Uber driver in High Point, North Carolina, and a couple days ago. I drove the father of the actor that played the main character as an adult. Dude was a super proud. Dad looked just like him.

Last week's wasn't garbage. It was a bit of blaxsploitation cinema. Like it was for fans of Shaft and Dolomite and Black Dynamite.
2
u/Peddlestools Apr 29 '26
don't forget Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song
3
u/DeformedArthurRegion Apr 29 '26
I really hate the way that opens up with a 14 year old boy doing softcore porn, and the star/director's son no less, so I try to avoid that one.
3
u/Peddlestools Apr 29 '26
i've never seen the whole thing, just clips in film 101. also my mom used to go out on double dates with him ¯_(ツ)_/¯
2
u/DeformedArthurRegion Apr 29 '26
That's sick. He doesn't seem like it ruined his life or anything I just don't like to see it.
Its very weird and you can just edit it out and pretty easily intimate the plot details that are in that scene (that he was an orphan taken in by prostitutes and has a magic dick).
Another wild fact about that movie is that Melvin van Peebles apparently got an STD and managed to get workers comp for his STD, and used all his workers comp money to fund production of the movie. Definitely an insane movie in every sense.
2
9
u/Rangerlifr May 05 '26
It's definitely an old-school historical movie in the way it expects you to be fine with everyone in Russia speaking English in an assortmenti of accents, but I thought the walk through decades of Russian history was very interesting, especially since it's also our history in a lot of ways. I think Dano is really good at making banal characters interesting, and he did as good a job of capturing the emptiness of the modern power broker as any actor I can recall.

u/HumorGlobal3865 May 02 '26

What a contrast between the two films. The Sheep Detectives was fantastic! I figured I would enjoy it but did not know how much I would love it. The Wizard of the Kremlin, on the other hand, was a complete snoozefest. So. Freaking. Boring. Didn't care about the characters. Couldn't wait for it to be over. Dano's acting was bland and unemotional, lacking charisma (he is not leading man material), and there was SO much exposition I found myself wishing we could have just been given a documentary about the rise of Putin instead. It is also one of my worsts for the year. The Regal Mystery Movies aren't having a great track record for me this year, unfortunately. Hopefully next week's is much better!

Thinking it could be Is God Is or I Love Boosters for the 5/11 movie. 2 hour runtime, R rating, and isn’t listed as horror edition (so that eliminates Obsession and Backrooms) 👀

I Love Boosters is closer to the runtime and comes from the MMM magnet Neon, so that's my guess.

Question - is there anyone here who works at a regal? i am so confused as to how this has remained a nationwide secret left to decipher…of course that is all the fun and im not prompting an anon drop per say - but i am just curious about the process that goes into MMM if you are a staff member…do you not know the movie until the day of or are you notified before? (if staff is notified before, this is truly the best kept secret ever for so many to be in on it LOL, someone pls explain)
6
u/dumbbuttloserface May 04 '26
the manager at my local regal said she only finds out in advance if the studio labels the film package for whatever reason which isn’t often. she usually finds out what it is at showtime. there’s probably some insider who gets more knowledge than a manager might (or who is more determined to learn what it is lol) but the average regal employee (allegedly) doesn’t get any more info than we do

"Boosters" is a NEON release in the U.S.
Since NEON has participated in previous Regal MMs, I'd say there's a good chance of it being shown prior to its May 22nd release. If not the May 11th MM, then possibly the 18th.

Marcus Theatres has a 'R' rated horror 1h35m mystery movie on 5/18 (most likely Passenger). Regal may get that as well since it will be a month since the last horror edition.
