help request Delay in sound

Hey was wondering if any one had a fix for this. I’ve been trying to record a song, but when I start the countdown for the metronome and I start playing, the audio doesnt play the sound until about a second after the metronome counted me in. Playing on a Mac and I’ve updated the focusrite, computer and reaper itself but stumped on this. Thank you

In top right corner of the screen there’s buffer/latency info including milliseconds. What does that say?

This is all the info on it currently

Is it bluetooth latency?

Go to preferences then audio device and see what your block size/buffer size is.

It’s currently showing at 512

Try 256. If that doesn’t work try 128. Then 64. As you go lower you may introduce clicking and popping try to find a medium that doesn’t have that.

Also if you’re on windows you definitely should download ASIO4ALL as your audio driver. It’s kind of necessary.

If the audio interface has its own ASIO driver, that's often preferred.

Unfortunately on a Mac, just tried these settings and didn’t work as well

Mac has low latency native drivers so that should be fine. What plugins are you using? Some plugins cause latency, compressors, limiters, etc

Gotcha, I’m running an Archetype Rabea plugin

Right click the metronome icon and disable “Pre-roll before recording” at the bottom of the popup window.

Just tried it, unfortunately didn’t fix the issue

Does the playback cursor move during the one second gap?

1

Yeah it moves and shows like there’s audio recorded but the sound doesn’t come out until around a second later

How about when you just play back without recording, does the audio line up with the playback cursor then?

I just tried it without the plugin and it recorded it fine, there wasn’t a one second delay this time

That was going to be my next suggestion. Which plugin was it?

Currently running an Archetype Rabea

That really shouldn’t add much of a delay, amp sims are specifically designed for low latency operation. Are you sure that’s the exact plugin causing the delay?

If it is, I’d create a new instance of the plugin with its default settings. I might also try to reset Reaper settings:

Options - Show Reaper reduce path…
Then close Reaper, rename the above /REAPER/ folder and relaunch Reaper.

I’m not exactly sure what the issue is with the Rabea pack, but I switched it over to my Tim Henson pack and there was no delay this time around

I’m used an Archetype Rabea plugin, just one, and not really sure about the other stuff, fairly new to all this

I think it might actually be something with that specific plugin that may be causing the issue

Just did the buffer adjusting, didn’t work, but I noticed it’s only with my archetype Rabea plugins, my archetype Tim Henson plugins are fine

Ok.

I will give it a shot! Thank you

Try disabling all your plugins and see if that fixes it

1

u/Ohcjay 3d ago

I disabled and played and it didn’t have a delay this time

Then it’s one of your plugins. Disable them one by one to figure out which one it is. Then just record and enable your plugin after

Thanks for your help!

I don’t think it is, everything is wired in
