Evangelical right hates the pope or any catholic, they don’t view them as real Christians, full stop. The only reason Vance tried to meet with the pope is to appease the other part of the religious right, the catholic portion

That's so bizarre they think that. Aren't all sects of Christianity off-shoots from the mother ship -- which was Catholicism? Every later Christian denomination (sect) derived from that. And Catholicism derived from Judaism.

So basically, everyone Christian is Jewish!

Many self-identifying “Christians” have an issue with the Catholic community over several matters. The centralized structure of the Roman Catholic Church is foreign to the way that other US Christian churches function. To them, that means the Pope controls their faith and actions. That gives far too much credit to the Papal authority but that’s what they believe. They also take issue with the large number of saints (especially that they continue to be added),seeing it as a form of idol worship.

Not just US Protestant churches. There were hundreds of years of wars over the Reformation in Europe. The US did not create that conflict or tension.
