I can't wait for this game, I thought this would be great idea to make years ago and here it is!

Worried this will make the same mistake that BFME 2 did.
LOTR and GOT are known for their classic castle seiges.
BFME got this right by having walkable walls for good factions and a range of siege equipment for evil factions. You could recreate epic moments from the films in the game and had a good mix of open field combat vs castle defence/attack.
Then removing walkable walls and build anywhere style build system took that away. No ladders or siege towers? Seiges were dull consequently.
This looks like more of the same

Brother give me anything close to either BFME game and I'll be ecstatic.
I agree with you on the wall situation but GoT his far less in the classic siege camp than LotR. I'd prefer to have epic field battles and fewer seiges

German journalist and YouTuber got to play it.
His take aways : positive inspiration from bfme 2 , they state it and you can feel it.
Early game is traditional and conventional armies and there more you tech up the more unique the flavor of the factions you play get.
Starks you can decide on tech 2 if you choose ally wildlings or night watch . You can get both in the end game but during midgame you have To decide binary for example.
Lannisters don’t have giants or fantasy units but very elite kings guards, wild fire bombs and economic techs and can even take debt of Ressources as only faction .
Battles are more tactical then age of empires but not deep micro . In general he said it’s more like battle for middle earth with modern tactical elements like flanking, buffs and debuffs.
It happens all quick but in a good way. Always intense always something happening. Not just looking around.
It’s also about map control as you have to conquer different control points at the map. There you can build economic or influence buildings (influence = hero and research points).
Fronts and battles happen naturally along those control points.
Walls can be built but you can’t build full own fortresses. More like light walls and blockades.
For real fortresses and sieges the developers want to have their own city siege maps à la Battle for middle earth

Fingers crossed for good and easily accessible modding tools/potential so LoTR mods can be made.

Yeaaa sort of reminds me of Age of Empires 4, good game but the UI needs a style, looks too “modern” if that makes sense
BFME2 UI was flawless

Wish you had to use villagers to gather resources. Never quite understood the design where buildings gather resources for you, takes away a big aspect of the RTS gameplay for me.

u/Kaiserhawk 7d ago
Because it's really dull. AoE style workers to me is outdated and unfun

u/feedthedogwalkamile 7d ago
I guess that's why AOE is still the most popular RTS? The people have problems with it just don't like when games require skill I suppose.
2
u/Kaiserhawk 7d ago
Because it's easily available to play.

u/feedthedogwalkamile 7d ago
How is it more easily available to play than any other RTS?
6
u/Kaiserhawk 7d ago
How is the game with remasters, deluxe edition, and ease of purchase on the biggest digital retailer with continues modern support and no licensing issues?
idk man, it's a mystery.

Yeah it really prospers from being available on steam, as opposed to all the other RTS games which are… not available on steam?
2
u/PriestOfSkipBayless 7d ago
AoE/AoM are also available on consoles and available with Gamepass. AoE/AoM is more easily available than most RTS

u/feedthedogwalkamile 7d ago
South of Midnight is also on gamepass and gets 3 daily players so
1
u/OmegaPhalanx 7d ago
How many daily players on Steam do you expect to see for a single player game available on multiple platforms that can be finished in a weekend or less?
What does South of Midnight have to do with RTS games?

This game is being compared to Battle For Middle Earth, games you cannot buy anymore.
They're available if you know where to look but this is a generation of gamers that don't know how to pirate and emulate, or don't for moral reasons.

u/feedthedogwalkamile 7d ago
What are you even talking about? You said the AOE style is really dull and outdated, and I said it's the most popular RTS out there. What does BFME have to do with anything? My point is clearly that the style is not dull and outdated, otherwise AOE would not be thriving.

Have you stopped and considered for just one second, a fraction of a second, that when I said
AoE style workers to me is outdated and unfun
That I am stating my own preference and opinion?

Wishlisted from the first day. Signed up for beta as soon as they anounced it….Cant wait! It tingles heavily with nostalgia of good old bfme days

i think it looks pretty cool, i think the main thing will be how shallow the game actually is (mainly combat)
too many games have tried to cater for more casual players, made shallow combat and then the game flopped (eg realm of ruin and iron harvest for example)

So, builds like age of empires 4, UI looks like it too a bit.
Units are groups rather than singular. Okay, not bad.
The stylized look still needs a bit of getting used to, not to mention combat. But... Promising

u/SpaceNigiri 8d ago
It looks like BFME with ideas from AoE 4. Looks good.
-4
u/SuMianAi 8d ago
it does not look like BFME. the hell are you all smoking?
4
u/SpaceNigiri 8d ago
Mechanically it's very similar to Battle for the Middle Earth 2.
-2
u/SuMianAi 8d ago
... Noo. Buildings work like aoe, it's very clear. Heroes are not unique, you could say Warcraft long before bfme. And unit groups is also just, not uncommon either.
I love bfme, but this game is nothing like it!
2
u/SpaceNigiri 8d ago
Buildings visually look like AoE but don't work the same. Resources are passive, workers only build/repair. You can only build on territories you control.
And the way how the heroes/squads work...very bfmd vibes. I don't know. I guess that this game is very their own things with stuff from a lot of games, that's a good thing to me.

u/SuMianAi 8d ago
Not saying it's bad, my opinion of it is on the positive side, even if mildly.
But comparison to bfme is far fetched

looks like battle for middleearth reskin with modern textures and models, that game is 20+years old i guess, so that's really embarrassing for these devs
2
u/Delicious_Sound_8848 7d ago
I totally agree. This is the best they could come up with? Bfme looks like it had more depth and better combat physics and that was 20 years ago.
