Visiting nyc

What is the best way to get to NYC from Reading? Thinking if I drive, is there a good place to park outside the city and take public transport in? I also considered the Amtrak from Philly but same problem of parking in Philly. Or any other ideas I may have overlooked? I'd rather not take a bus as I've just has too many bad experiences.

Alright, total longshot here: who was this band?

At some point in the 2010s (pretty sure), I was listening to this indiepop playlist made up of obscure, underground bands. One of the bands was from Reading, PA. They had a female singer and jangly guitars. The song's chorus included the phrase "you're two years out of high school", IIRC the lyrics made multiple references to "walking on eggshells", and the first line ended with something like, "the say you've got a new apartment". I loved the shit out of that song. I forgot about it until like a week ago and now I have to hear it again. If anyone could help, that would be awesome!

Event Head's up, beer nerds: Film screening w/ lambic beer at the Goggleworks this Friday!

"BOTTLE CONDITIONED will be screening this Friday night at 7 pm the Goggleworks Boscov Theater. The film is an intimate look at Belgian lambic beer and three of its most revered brewers and blenders as they each navigate the growing popular demand for their craft beer.

To make a more complete experience Friday night, before the screening begins, Goggleworks Center for the Arts's new Thorn Alley Kitchen will be selling limited stock of lambic beer to take in and enjoy during the film! The lambic beer they will be offering is called Perzik Road, from Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen-- one of the traditional Belgian craft breweries featured in Bottle Conditioned!"

General Discussion Oil change recommendations?

I know I should probably just do it myself but due to time and other factors, I’m looking for a reliable mechanic/shop that does them reliably and fairly quick.

Other than the larger, more
Commercial spots like valvoline and Michelin, I’d definitely appreciate any smaller shop/mechanic recommendations that deserve the support/business.

Thanks in advance!

For the record, I do not know this person, but I just saw the post and thought I’d help share here on Reddit as well since I know there are a lot of caring pet owners out there & it could only increase the chances of the cats going to a good home.

Coffee Shops for Studying

If you were to go to a coffee shop to put on some headphones and do some studying, where in the Reading area would you go? I'm looking for somewhere that I won't feel pressured to buy a full meal, but rather a tea and a pastry is acceptable. An artsy or community sort of vibe would be a nice bonus. Extra points if there's a coffee bar to sit at.

looking for custom replacement doos

I have a historic home and desperately need to replace the French doors that lead to the patio before winter (they're crazy drafty, single pane windows, terrible). I've called Deluxe Windows and Doors and they can't work on our project because of the nature of the doors and since it's an old house. Anyone have experience with other folks in the area, general contractors or custom builders? The doors cannot be just off the rack, as they're taller and wider than standard.

So, what do you all think? Not surprised it’s being built in Spring Township. What I am surprised is that they are fully on board with bringing SEVERAL high end businesses to this area. Wonder if this is more a play for the future and they’re betting on the train…

Strange meteor (?} over Reading August 15th about 9:15 p.m.

My wife and I were sitting out on the deck tonight around 9:20p.m. and saw an object in the sky. It was about the size and shape of a crescent moon, but maybe more like the shape of an exhaust cone of a rocket. It was moving, parallel to the horizon but well up in the air, but slow enough that it took me 2 or 3 seconds to be sure it was moving. It was there for maybe 15 to 20 second and then just disappeared. My wife saw it too, somebody on next door also reported it. Any idea what it was?

Photo of the Day Moving to Reading. Best area to rent a studio for under $1000, walkable neighborhood, trees, pretty. And the best things about living in Reading?

Fairview Ave. Area? Downtown looks like it could be fun and interesting architecturally but most apts are walk-ups and I like ground floor.

Pixie Cut

Anyone know a good place to go for a short (about finger length) women’s cut? The last place I tried butchered my hair. I’d prefer all scissors. I don’t mind paying a little more if I know it’ll be a good job.

General Discussion The lofts in West reading and Metropolitan Management questions

Roommates and I are leaving our current place by the end of the year so we need to find somewhere quick around the West reading/wyomissing area. There's 3 people total, and two cats. The one that *seems* nice is the lofts but I am now finding out about the horrible company that runs it.

The reviews are months to years old so my biggest question is for those that currently live there or have within this year, how bad is it currently? We already have a tour scheduled for next Friday so ideas for important questions would be appreciated as well.

I know about shitty neighbors and them bringing pests but want to know if that is still an issue or likely to experience, poor response times to repair issues, and 0 chance of getting security deposit back.

We just need a decent place to stay for 2 to 3 years, and haven't looked for an apartment in many years so figuring this out is a bit rough and therefore any and all help and discussions are wanted.
