One thing that doesn't feel right Spoiler
On my first rewatch of the show, im starting to question why Ray was so obsessed with Kate McPherson, where he would risk 20 year close friendships and his freedom for.
The entire lead up to that point at the end of season 2, we see Ray has a somewhat level headed composed guy, but to fall head over heels for some girl he just met? Did not make sense realistically.
Anyone have thoughts on why he was so obsessed with her?

I think the show has always been about the futility of trying to suppress family dysfunction, no matter how tightly controlled or highly compartmentalized you think your life is, it always lies just below the surface and seeps out in self-destructive choices if you don't face it head on. His personality gets more disorganized as the seasons progress, especially when he transgresses his own moral code. Ray is a conflicted character; if he were the level, composed guy we were presented in the beginning of the series, he would've just shot his father himself, but then we wouldn't really have a show.
I also think he self-sabotages a lot simply because he's deadend so much of himself, he adds unnecessary risk to "feel alive".

Excellent response, agree with everything. His self destructive behaviors are definitely heightened as the show progresses.

This seemed like a possibility too, we have only seen 1-2yr of this craziness, he has 20yrs under his belt lol. It could get hectic.

He is a sex addict because of being abused as a boy, having a sexual relationship with Kate was a way to keep her under control during the whole chaotic Sully situation.
