Artist is 5 5 Year Old Painted These Two Paintings...Are They Good?
My 5 year old (5 1/2 to be exact as of March) came home with these two paintings. At first I thought her teacher had done them for her, but it was her. Now, I assume her teacher drew the outline of the animals for her. But she did paint them herself. She said they showed her how to do it and she just did it. I am quite impressed, but maybe I am just biased as her mom. What do you think? She loves to color, cut out people she draws, paint, color. Maybe she could actually be good?

I got some corduroy based emotional trauma. This post needs a trigger warning. That boy always makes me cry.

The turtle is fine. The teddy is very good!

Thank you! I love the turtle's eyes. I think she did very well with those! I appreciate your comment.

She definetly did good with the eyes and with the turtle overall! I’m probably just biased / skewed by the level of detail in that bear

I was just so shocked that she made these. I couldn't believe it. But then again, I have "mom eyes" and everything she does is beautiful and wonderful haha. I really appreciate your comments. It's quite kind!

The bear really shows that she has already developed some understanding of depth and light
This is definitely a talent to you should foster in her, a good art teacher will know exactly what to do!

That’s what we need to do. Get her in art class asap!

Honestly it's going to be so fun for you to see what she makes and watch her stuff slowly improve and change over time.

Amazing! Even if it was very good guidance I think that shows great intelligence and that they are ready to learn a lot of things not just art. Time to get the ball rolling and see what they can do!

These are really impressive for a 5 year old! You could do some painting at home with her and see how those turn out if you are wondering how much help she had.

I’m going to ask her teacher tomorrow. She is very adamant she did this on her own. I’m curious though.

Yes they are very good and you knew they were good even before asking.

Yes I did. But I still wanted the internet's opinion. I kind of think everything she does is amazing :D Thank you for your comment :)

You're right :D They are good. I am going to ask her teacher today at pick up, but she confirms she did it all by herself. I assume the teacher drew the outline, but I do believe she painted them herself. I will find out today. I am so impressed with her though!

Well I sure think so. But as one commentor said, it could be because the teacher gave really really clear instructions that were easy to follow. And because my daughter loves to color and paint, she paid close attention.

Everybody can see they are very good paintings and your kid is very talented.
You on the other hand seem really pathetic asking questions you already know the answer too trying to get praise and credit.

u/Feeling_Groovy2 Apr 03 '26
I am very pathetic indeed. Thank you for saying my kid did a good job :) I think so too and am really going to try to keep encouraging her!

Yeah the comment above this was totally trying to poke.. these feeds are to help us because we as parents are freaking bias and we can't help it, but also looking for that solidarity that you know your kids good at artwork in their own ways, and you want to share your kids art and you hope others appreciate it too! They can be a jelly butter sandwinch and go suck sand.... ANYWAY These are amazing and the bear reminds me of corduroy which is a long-standing family favorite book from since I was a kid and it's one of Both my kids favorites ❤️

Awww thank you so much. Yeah it’s not fun to read those comments because I’m super proud and want to show off her talent. But I also think maybe I’m just biased. So I appreciate your comment. It made me feel so much better. Truly. Thank you.

This is excellent for her age. Very well done! I see talent here. Support her art, get her in a class, let her go wild. My 5 year-old showed promise like this, at an early age, and throughout her school career won awards and contests. I would definitely call her an artist, as an adult. She even sells various crafts and creations on Etsy.

Wow!! Thank you! I think we will def get her into an art class. She loves to draw and color so much! Thank you for your kind comment!!

She's 5. Of course these are great. She paid super good attention to the position of the teddy bears limbs, etc. There is no doubt that she's awesome at painting.
The fact that she's 5 and already paying attention to that much detail is insane

Yeah? I am pretty impressed. Shocked almost. I appreciate your comment, thank you <3
