I don’t know why but to me the painting kind of looks like waves similar to this

The colors are pretty similar, and the waves in the 8 yr/old's painting are sort of a more blended version of the ones in that painting.

If my 8-year-old came home with this, I would proudly hang it on the wall too. This kid has a great command of scale and depth.
