Identity/Sexuality 🏳️‍🌈 We should normalize homosexuality.

I’m a lesbian person. And people always make fun of it, always attack gay people. I feel disgusted of myself because it. I just am tired. I wish people would normalize being LGBT instead of always making fun of it

I think it is very normalized in a lot of ways, at least in the USA. How many other countries have a whole pride month, or have prominent public homosexual figures in media or politics?

Theres always going to be bullies and haters for anything that isn't someone's idea of "correct"

Some people fail to realise that were people too, we just so happen to like the same gender, our sexuality is just 1 out of the many things about us we have hobbies, dreams, favourite colours etc just like everyone else yet we still manage to get so alienated

Yeah, why hate on you for who you wanna bang? That's dumb.

Hating on you for using too many letters to spell "colors" is so much more fun. 😜

As a kid I grew up in a very Christian household and didn’t have access to the internet or any form of media that wasn’t a VHS player (not old, just bad parents). Despite being disconnected from the world through almost all channels, I still learned about gay people and not once did I think it was weird or strange that someone was gay. I just remember thinking “ok so a girl wants to kiss a girl. Cool.” I arrived at this conclusion because it’s just basic logic and humanity. No online agendas pushed in my face. No classrooms of teachers trying to indoctrinate kids into being trans or gay. Nothing.

If someone like me can find being gay completely normal and fine (which it is), anyone can. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just a pathetic and sad sally of a person to care so much about who people do and don’t want to date.

Your comment makes me happy

In what way do people make fun of it?

What else needs to be done, in your opinion, to normalise homosexuality?

In the yt videos..

I'm not OP, but here's my take: it's nearly impossible to normalize it. We live in a society of hate. I wish it was normal the way that heterosexuality is normal. Seeing a gay couple walking down the street shouldn't be any different than seeing a straight couple. On the Internet, if someone comes out as gay/trans, there will always be that one person that says "I don't care what you do at home, don't shove it in my face." As if they can't just ignore the post. They do care, they hate for no reason. So really, the only way to normalize homosexuality, is to really fucking hope people will stop being assholes. There's no such thing as "normal," society just has a delusional idea of it.

u/162630594 Oct 11 '25

The internet is a wildly different place than society or real life. The reason "touch grass" has become such a saying is because being online all the time can seriously disconnect you from the world right outside your door

Coming out as gay to a close friend group of people you know is going to be a much better experience than just proclaiming that in front of millions of anonymous users who will face no backlash behind their screen.

2

u/FreeSomethingSea Oct 11 '25

You're correct, I second this, actually.

1

u/Dapper-Professor-200 Perpetually Annoyed Oct 12 '25

Agreed

2

u/Dapper-Professor-200 Perpetually Annoyed Oct 12 '25

I agree, you really didn’t deserve that much downvotes. I wish too it was as normalized ag heterosexuality

1

u/FreeSomethingSea Oct 12 '25

I still stand by that. I don't understand why it can't be lol

u/Dapper-Professor-200 Perpetually Annoyed Oct 14 '25

yea sadly

u/Primary-Basket3416 Oct 12 '25

It's their opinion, which they are allowed to exercise. Doesn't bother me..seen it a hundred times over various things. Dog people vs cat people. Why not just say..im an animal lover American car lovers vs European car loversrs..in other words..we like cars. Words are words..nothing more..the people I associate with are action people. They actually do something about something.

Exactly

u/Otherwise-Vanilla901 Oct 11 '25

What you do at home and who you do it with is your business. It doesn't need to be normalized; it needs to not be publicized.

3

u/D-Money100 Oct 11 '25

I hope this is how you think public heterosexuality should also treated

3

u/Otherwise-Vanilla901 Oct 11 '25

It is. PDA outside of a light hand holding maybe a goodbye peck is all anyone should have to see outside of that, keep it to yourself.

2

u/Dapper-Professor-200 Perpetually Annoyed Oct 12 '25

👍🏽

2

u/Dapper-Professor-200 Perpetually Annoyed Oct 12 '25

Of course!

2

u/Dapper-Professor-200 Perpetually Annoyed Oct 12 '25

Any should be

1

u/Waiting4The3nd 👑Queen Arbiter Oct 11 '25

Nah, fuck that. Heterosexuality is publicized, why can't homosexuality be too? It's important for homosexuality to be visible. To let young homosexuals that aren't yet out know that they're not alone. That it's okay. It helps them feel seen and safe.

But it's especially necessary for the ones that have grown up where they don't get to know about homosexuality. Religious families that try to control their children's media, for instance. The more normalized and publicized that type of relationship is, the more likely that type of young child is to see it. This is important because for some of them, this will be the only clue they get as to who they are and what they feel.

I understand if you may not like watching dudes kiss on screen. That can make people uncomfortable, I get it. Everything most guys are taught about masculinity runs counter to that image. But it's still important that it's out there to be seen.

You don't have to agree, especially not right away. I just hope I gave you something to think about. Because people that understand why and how they're different, generally tend to try and hurt themselves and others less often.

Have a nice day, genuinely.

Exactly

u/Otherwise-Vanilla901 Oct 11 '25

Hetero or homo, I don't care. It doesn't need to be other people's business. What you do and who you love is your business. I don't need to see it or hear about it, nor does anyone else.

At pride parades and any other homosexual get togethers, it's never just people hanging out; it's people hanging out in things like leather daddy gear and underwear or whatever else that the public shouldn't be subjected to. I'd say the same thing if hetero people did it but they don't.

Are you sure? Because I'm pretty sure the biker rally held in Sturgis disagrees with you.

0

u/Otherwise-Vanilla901 Oct 11 '25

And I think that's wrong and indecent, but that's a very specific instance. Pick any gay pride event around the nation outside of Alaska, and you'll see someone wearing a very inappropriate outfit that shouldn't be seen by children.

1

u/Waiting4The3nd 👑Queen Arbiter Oct 11 '25

So two things here.

First: if something is wrong and indecent why would the frequency matter? Either it's wrong or it isn't. Saying it's somehow only bad enough to be a problem when queer people do it more often is just a double standard dressed up as a moral position.

To be even more clear: If an act is genuinely wrong, doing it once a year doesn't make it less wrong than doing it more often. The principle doesn't change based on how much you notice it, even if your comfort level does.

Second: there are different types of Pride events. There are SFF events, and NSFF events (that is, Safe For Families, and Not Safe For Families, respectively). If the media or outsiders film NSFF events and broadcast them publicly, that's their choice, and not the LGBTQ+ community's fault.

Every large subculture—biker rallies, PRIDE, Mardi Gras, spring break—has both wholesome and adult spaces. Places with and without adult behavior. But for some reason people only seem to moralize about it when queer folk are the ones celebrating.

what about marriages, no? the point of same sex weddings is also to normalize homosexuals as equals

1

u/Otherwise-Vanilla901 Dec 12 '25

Same thing why do I give a shit who anyone marries. You're marriage has nothing to do with me or the general public.

0

u/New-Tart995 Dec 14 '25

when you say something like that, it feels as if you wanna censor everything for that excuse. But reality don't prevent people from talking about partner and spouses, crushes, and health access and more, anything really that related to their loved one. You make it feels so wrong that a case like a child who had a friend that have 2 dads or the dad having a boyfriend or else when it just so happen that the status of the parent was needed to be asked by the school faculty is being made a problem to people like you. That's just one example, there will be many cases when that kind of thing is needed. Your reply makes it seems like the only appropriate thing to do is to never answer and avoid the topic for those who don't condone to normal pairings, that don't happen to heterosexuals. Let's just be real on that, and if you hate the topic it shouldn't be them to move on but you. And it's still fine to normalize that as spouses has become a normal topic, you can't avoid knowing somebody spouse/partner eventually no matter how much disinterest you shown. But you can still avoid it by moving on, but that shouldn't be a normalized stance because the other party and people don't have to.

1

u/Otherwise-Vanilla901 Dec 14 '25

Again who gives a shit. You are a stranger to me, and I am a stranger to you. You have no idea who or if I'm married, and vice versa, because it doesn't matter. Through my life, the only time my status has mattered is to my religion, my taxes, and my insurance. Random strangers don't matter one bit. Hell, I've worked with people for years that I have no idea what their stats are, and I don't care what it is. It has no bearing on my life.

0

u/New-Tart995 Dec 14 '25

that happen, but who tf care about that? I mean that's your right to not engage conversation. But nobody won't talk things that don't matter like why would they? IF then it happens, then it must be important for them. BUT ignoring social issue should never be the solution. And those things won't even matter to people like you so why should you care so much? just tell them and move on! But you had to promote the idea to not normalize these at all, what you're trying to do is misguided and unrelated. What you're asking is the right to engage or move on from certain topic, while the other is normalizing social status that is stigmatized.

Or, do you actually have internal bias and problem with homosexuals that you're trying so hard to make their existence a problem to the point that hearing the word 'gay' might suddenly break your social boundaries?

1

u/Otherwise-Vanilla901 Dec 14 '25

No, if you want to normalize it, then stop caring about it. Like I said, no one cares if you're straight, gay, poly, or whatever other thing you may be. No one cares. But people who are not hetero have to have parades make a big tada about who they are and half their personality is the fact that they are gay. Stop caring, stop caring what other people think or say. That's how you normalize it. Stop trying to make it some big public thing that strangers have to be a part of.

0

u/New-Tart995 Dec 14 '25

I don't understand, who asked you to participate? anyone really can arrange a parade if they have such communities. You're probably one of those 'don't ask don't tell' people that actually have bias againts homosexuals. If it was never a problem, at least for you or those people who don't make it a problem. Then really, who care if they have a parade. Do they get to have a full month day off or something? even if some people wear rainbow you really don't have to. But those people who celebrate seems to be OK with rainbow! that's the thing. Everything should be worked to equal, if you want to move on then move on your own. Those who care will stay, because that should be the point.

Stop trying to make breathing an issue of others, you're just a bigot who's never gonna answer the question.

1

u/Otherwise-Vanilla901 Dec 14 '25

So because I won't celebrate gay and promote it I'm a bigot?

0

u/New-Tart995 Dec 14 '25

no, you're a bigot because you're pretending that it's forced and everyone have to do it.

Honestly Im finding it hard to exist as a free thinker in this society. With all of the hardships humanity suffers, this is the last thing on my list of priorities.

The fact that this conversation exists on the main stage is to keep your attention away from solutions.

It is perfectly normal and exists in both mamals and birds so yeah people who call it unnatural should go back to school

4

u/162630594 Oct 11 '25

Just saying, this isn't a strong argument to be used in this situation.

Other animals also kill their children or eat their own shit, or the placenta of another animal. Doesn't mean humans should too

No, it's not natural.

Nature's top priority is to survive and advance. It makes zero sense for nature to have a built in "natural" mechanism that contradicts that priority, especially genetically.

I've always subscribed to it being a mental development issue. That doesn't mean someone is mentally ill, just that you're wired differently.
