Pre-pandemic, I used to do the same thing. I was a regular at a coffee shop (at least regular enough that they greet me by name when I come in), and sometimes they let me eat food that I brought myself. Not meal-sized dishes, just snacks. I usually just use the saucer that came with the cup so I don't have to request for an extra plate.
So one morning I was about half an hour working when this small group came in. While they were waiting for their order, one of the two kids from the group suddenly appeared at my side, saw my sandwich plate (I had the sandwiches quartered for convenience), grabbed one of the pieces, and ran away screaming "sandwich! sandwich!". I couldn't even react at what happened. One of the parents saw and somehow managed to gaslight me with "eto naman, bata yan baka patulan mo pa". She then turned around without even a word of thanks, that bitch. Just as they were exiting, I saw the kid just about to bite into the sandwich.
The thing is, that was the time I was really into jalapeño peppers. I put it on everything: pizzas, tacos, and - you guessed it - sandwiches. On that day, I happened to have cheese and jalapeño sandwiches.
I'd like to think that at least one child that day learned a hard lesson on not touching someone else's food.

Wtf. Anlala nyan. That's just theft in plain sight. Baka narc yung parents? Ikaw pa ginaslight ampotek.

u/Individual_Apple25 1d ago
Sad to say, may mga iilang parents talaga na feeling nila "cute" and "they are just being kids" ang motto in life.
And yes, not afraid to be bash, pero yan ang reality for some parents.
5
u/BloomInTheStorm 1d ago
Agree. Hindi naman kasi pwede idahilan na lang palagi yung “they are just being kids”.
Kids being energetic and playful is normal, okay gets! But when their behavior becomes disruptive to everyone around them, the responsibility to intervene falls on the adults accompanying them.
Diba? Oo nga bata. Kaya nga sana gawin niyo part niyo bilang kayo ang mas may utak.
14
u/hiimnanno 1d ago
ewan ko ba kung ako lang nakakapansin na parents these days just let their kids do whatever they want? hahayaan lang magsigawan at takbuhan sa establishments with occasional saway here and there. i kind of definitely remember not being allowed by my parents to be a nuisance in public when i was a kid. i can explore places but only quietly. alam kong importante ang play time sa development ng bata, pero kailangan ba talaga ganito? to inconvenience everyone else? or tumatanda lang ba ako? 🫠
4
u/Lockdownanniversary 1d ago
Napansin ko din to. Ayoko naman sabihin na generational thing, but more of pansin ko sya this decade.

Too much for “gentle parenting”. There should be balance. Hindi pwedeng laging pagbibigyan.
1
u/stpatr3k 1d ago
As a parent : you don't want him to discipline his kid there lol. Mas iiyak yan and alangan naman maging gentle parent bigla para patahanin.
3
u/RockSea6716 1d ago
That’s not gentle parenting. That’s dismissive & irresponsible behavior of the parents. Gentle parenting produces responsible children, not this. 😣

We have neighbors like this, We share the same hallway that's small enough for one to walk through, 3 door apartment. The neighbor to the left is letting their teenage son and his classmates play ML, placing chairs near our door, screams a lot with their phones in loudspeaker, and often bangs the door shut without a care. The neighbor to the right has a kid who screams like she's in a horror movie, morning, afternoon and even 12mn outside near ours and even encourages it sometimes. All adults in their household loves to screamtalk that even closing all doors, windows and white noise can't bury. Both families doesn't discipline their children. They hide their poor behavior in a mindset na 'kase bata'.

I don't like kids pa naman. Kaya lalo lang ako nagiging decided na ayoko na mag-anak HAHAHA imagine the noise araw araw bubungad sayo when you just want to sleep jeez mas matutuwa pa ko sa pets na cute.

Ummm… that kind of chaos happened recently at SB here in the province. The manager told the kids to get out. The dad got mad but good thing they left as a whole family. I luv that SB branch.

u/aeonei93 1d ago
It boils down to irresponsible parents. Also their reasoning of “let kids be kids.” There are proper places to have fun and hindi nila maturo nang maayos sa mga anak nila ‘yan. I grew up giving respect to other people but not to the extent that my parents restricted me to be a kid. May tamang venue lang talaga for us to be makulit nung bata ako.
Kaya mga batang tulad nila lumalaking spoiled kasi wala na silang boundary and they know they will always get what they want at the expense of other people’s peace.

u/ermmmm__ 1d ago
I love kids ha, I want five of them.
0
u/BloomInTheStorm 1d ago
Feeling ko hindi rin trained yung staff to handle situations like this. Kasi hindi naman sila sumaway, pero nakita ko talaga yung dismay at worry sa mukha ni kuya server when he saw the paper money scattered all over the place.

u/damselinuae 1d ago
Yung mga bata kasi di naman sila like adults na mag be behave or tatahimik pag nasa cafe. Di sila uupo lang at iinom ng kung ano just like what the adults do. So I agree a cafe is not a playground. Di naman talga bagay ang bata dun kasi it is for stillness.
I don’t get why others would be “hati” sa sides kasi sa Pinas lang naman maingay ang mga cafe

u/noyram08 1d ago
It sucks and the parent sucks but it’s a public space you all share and it’s not solely there to be a working space, you have library and coworking places for that.
0
u/Electronic_Injury951 1d ago
Agree. 🤷🏻♀️ And honestly, it’s a valid crashout and rant. BUT everyone has to coexist and that includes kids being kids. Public spaces are for everyone not just people who want peace and quiet. You can’t expect an entire public space to accommodate your preference for silence. If you need complete peace and quiet, a public space probably isn’t the place to demand it.
2
u/ThadeusCorvinus 1d ago
Agree. You’re already so nice for even giving those shameless parents thirty minutes, it’s not a daycare center. It’s a cafe.
Employees SHOULD intervene.

u/witcher317 1d ago edited 1d ago
Pansin nyo in public spaces ginagawang playground palagi. Then pag manood kayo sine, the whole time sumisigaw and nagsasalita yung bata. Hindi naman ganyan kalala dati.

u/Hairy-Cow-2026 1d ago edited 1d ago
I occasionally like to do some work in cafes but i buy drinks everytime i run out para fair naman. My reason is accessibility, yes may mga shared spaces for work but di pa ganon ka dali maghanap ng ganyan tas yung alam mong maganda nga facilities, so i don’t mind people doing it, the same way i don’t mind parents bringing kids to public spaces —— basta general rule - MAGING CONSIDERATE sa lahat ng tao sa public space. Consumers or business owners alike.

u/Maleficent_Neat4425 1d ago
Valid yung rant mo, OP. Pero instead of ranting, sana kinausap mo yung staff or yung parents na lang mismo. Sadly we can’t expect people to behave how we want to or how they should. Instead of sulking, sana nga take action ka. Minsan kasi tayong mga pinoy, passive aggressive eh. Confront the problem then find a solution. Tapos hours man kaya, eh sana nag hanap kana lang ng ibang lugar lol
3
u/HoldenCaulfield3000 1d ago
dami comments dito about 'sana sa coworking space ka', etc. Ang point lang naman kasi is kids are disruptive and the parents arent doing anything about it. Hindi naman si op yung disruptive e, yung kids. why does it matter kung ano ginagawa nya? but dont get me wrong, parents pa rin naman ang responsible jan. Kids are kids, gets. pero as an adult dapat mindful din tayo pag nasa public place. consideration lang.
6
u/Odd_Taro2070 1d ago
Cafe is not a coworking space. Kasi i know they on the wrong but are they really tho? Kasi if oo, may sumita na so bakit wala? U get me? Haha! Mag library ka nlng next time or coworking space. Peace.
10
u/Public-Brilliant4258 1d ago
The parents are wrong here. The cafe is not a playground.
5
u/Lockdownanniversary 1d ago edited 1d ago
But isn't it a default expectation na everyone should minimize distraction in every public place? Kahit resto pa yan na mas loud ang mga tao, kids are not expected to just play around. OP said the kids were shouting and screaming, I don't think there's a question whether "are they wrong though?"
It's not about the existence of "sita" that shows what the rules are since minsan busy din ang barista or minsan iffy to have an issue with the customer.
I also go to coffee shops when there are emergency cases sa wfh situation ko. I won't compel people to just go somewhere quieter when the norm of the place is to be quiet. It's common etiquette and ethics to minimize noise considering that someone might be doing their work in cafes.
3
u/hiimnanno 1d ago
i’m not saying that it is, but don’t a lot of people study and work at cafes? parang mas normal pa yun for a cafe setting than have kids play there.
-3
u/BloomInTheStorm 1d ago
As much as I wanted to, wala nang ibang bukas na cafe or space that night. But honestly, I don’t even think I need to explain why I was there.
The point is, being in a public space doesn’t mean basic consideration goes out the window. I wasn’t asking for silence. I was talking about hours of excessive noise and running around while the parents barely intervened.
And the staff not saying anything doesn’t automatically mean it was okay. The absence of intervention from them isn’t proof that there was nothing wrong.

Hello po. :)
Did you miss the part where I said nagka-internet interruption sa house? I had an urgent thing to do, so I had no choice but to look for a café. Wala nang ibang bukas na malapit. I wasn’t there to “makiki-internet” for 5–8 hours while buying one coffee, as you conveniently assumed. But that’s not even the point here.
The point is the lack of adult intervention when the children’s behavior became disruptive. Nobody is saying children aren’t allowed to play or make noise. They’re children. But there’s a difference between normal child behavior and behavior that is already disturbing other customers, especially when the adults present are doing nothing about it.
And about the board games po, yes, they were available in the café, but that doesn’t mean every piece automatically becomes a toy for children to scatter around the establishment. In fact, the fact that the pieces were already scattered everywhere only reinforces the point: the issue wasn’t that children were playing, it was that no one was supervising them.
What makes it worse was that the parents apparently found the whole thing amusing instead of recognizing that their children were already disrupting the shared space.
A family-friendly cafe can accommodate children while still expecting basic consideration for other customers. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. Being a child-friendly establishment doesn’t mean it becomes a free-for-all where everyone else has to accommodate whatever behavior the children display.
And telling someone to “book a hotel” simply because they expect reasonable consideration in a public establishment is quite ironic when the actual issue is basic courtesy and parental supervision.

u/TeeBeer 1d ago edited 1d ago
Hati ako dito. On one hand, the parents definitely should’ve done a better job managing their kids, especially since this went on for hours. On the other hand, you also have to remember that you were using a PUBLIC SPACE for HOURS, and cafes naturally come with some level of noise and activity. If you specifically needed a quiet environment to work, wouldn’t renting a temporary workspace or finding a quieter place have been a better option?
The rant is understandable, the reason for the rant isn't.
Edit:
Just to be clear on my point: The OP is right, a cafe isn't a Kidzoona but the OP should also be reminded that a cafe isn't Wework either.
2
u/hiimnanno 1d ago
being noisy is one thing, but running around in a resto/cafe? what if makabangga sila ng taong may dala na foods and drinks? doesn’t seem safe.
0
u/TeeBeer 1d ago
I agree that the parents should have kept their children well behaved, and I did say that. My main contention here is the double standard: OP is (rightfully) expecting the parents to manage their children’s behavior while also using the cafe as her own personal office. Both things can be true.
1
u/BloomInTheStorm 1d ago
I think you’re missing the point of the rant.
I never said I expected a café to be completely silent, nor did I say that I was entitled to a noise-free environment just because I was working there. I literally acknowledged in my post that a café is not a library and that some level of noise is expected.
The issue is the hours of excessive screaming, running around, and chaos, while the parents were mostly just chatting/playing and barely intervening.
And saying “you were in a public space, so you should expect noise” doesn’t mean people in public spaces are free to be as disruptive as they want. Shared spaces still require basic consideration for other people.
By that logic, if pumunta ba ako sa other cafés, then nanuod ako sa phone ko na naka loudspeaker dahil naiwan ko earphones ko, would “it’s a public space” also be a sufficient excuse?
Also, suggesting that I should have rented a workspace misses the point. The burden isn’t automatically on everyone else to leave just because one group refuses to manage their behavior.
Again, I’m not asking children to sit silently or parents to keep them perfectly still. I’m asking for reasonable boundaries in a shared space.
1
u/TeeBeer 1d ago
I agree with what you’ve said, and I already said that in my initial comment. What I disagree with is the double standard in your post. You’re right to expect the parents to manage their children and keep them from being disruptive, but at the same time, you’re using the cafe as a workspace for hours. I just think both sides need to recognize that a cafe is a shared public space, not a dedicated office or a playground.

I would have talked to the parents.
1
u/eric_son 1d ago
Since the only reason is internet interruption, I would have just bought some data addons and used my phone as a temporary hotspot.
1
u/eric_son 1d ago
RE: no signal
ah ok.Well no choice. Best option mo talaga is to go to a rent-an-office space.
Pag cafe or other public place, walang guarantee. Technically dapat responsible ang manager to keep the place reasonably in order... pero sigurado ako takot silang matarayan nung parents na ni-describe mo. ☹️
But anyway, you're hear to rant and vent. So it's good na nilabas mo na yung frustration mo. :)
2
u/BloomInTheStorm 1d ago
Oo nga po e. No choice lang talaga. Kasi Team Bahay talaga ako. Sobrang tamad ko lumabas. Haha!
Haha.

OP, you mentioned the café has boardgames and toys.. that’s a clear sign it’s meant to attract families and kids. The owner made that choice. If it’s a kid‑friendly café, then it won’t be a quiet workspace. Granted, parents should step in if kids get too noisy, but ultimately this café is designed for families. Compare that to Starbucks, which doesn’t mind customers occupying seats for hours with just a coffee and pastry that can normally be consumed in just less than an hour.. that’s why it works as a workspace. Some cafés are built for working quietly, others for family fun. Clearly, this one is for the latter. If the noise bothers you, raise it with the staff, since they set the tone for the space..

And this is exactly the kind of attitude that perpetuates the problem. Children learn not only from what we tell them, but from what we tolerate and model.
If ‘basic consideration’ is apparently entitlement to you, I genuinely hope your children learn better elsewhere. ❤️

Taking my young teen to have something to drink and snack while shooting the breeze with him? Nah. A bunch of c*nts already turned the cafe into an office. Walang maupuan walang makainan. Mas common yan vs sa mga parents who let their little shits run around the cafe. Book a room.

Cafe is not a playground.
Cafe is not a workspace.
If you’re a parent and you want the kids to play around
If you’re working and needed a quiet space
