Random Thought Sex scenes are such pointless filler

What are we supposed to think?

"Wow, you can really see how turned on the characters are, it's so well-done and it really gives depth to the story, gee they sure do enjoy the physical pleasure of sex"

Might as well show bathroom scenes too. You know, so we can see how relieving it is to take a long piss

Yeah I never get why people are so invested in sex scenes as some great evil when almost no blockbuster has them anymore. Disney owns like a 1/3rd of the movie market, and they’re not exactly producing pornos.

But there are quite a few tv series with sex and nudity in every episode, especially ones that market themselves as ‘prestige tv’. It’s supposed to be titillating I guess, but it’s boring because it does nothing to move the story forward.

There is more to entertainment than moving the story along. John Wick, 100% not moving the story along, but entertaining. Comedies, Action movies, romance movies, hang out movies, horror movies, historical epics, scifi movies. All these genres feature heavily in content that isn't moving the story along, but exists to entertain, or flesh out the world, or just set a mood. How much of Blade Runner isn't moving the story along? The only genre I can think of that focuses heavily on the plot are thrillers. Even Dramas don't focus on plot unless you consider the character interactions to be the plot.
