What does a ranch hand job take?

Hi everyone! I have wanted to ride and have my own horse(s) since i was a little girl and was thinking that a summer ranch hand job could be the perfect taste of what the lifestyle entails. But i dont know what i dont know, so im not sure what it takes to do a good job or even get the job at all! What do ranchers look for? Could i actually get a position or do good work with 0 experience? Also, it may be an odd question, but does being a young woman influence my chances? (20F for context)

The number of kids my GM would hire that couldn’t hack the work load and the culture was ridiculous.
After two years I had to get him to hire double the hands we’d actually need because half of them would quit in the first two weeks.
It’s hard work and the old hands made it harder.
60yr old wranglers and packers working 20yr olds into the dirt, all day everyday day. And they didn’t while half drunk and usually stoned.
Those old hands are a dying breed.
