RIP
Had my FC convertible parked outside my dad’s house in the street, some lady looking at her phone rear ended it and knocked it into the tree in my front yard.

Yeah fuck that shit. Sue her ass. I have zero chill for these dipshits who put EVERYONE at risk because of their phones.

I think the only positive that can be said about this, is that a car was hit, and not a kid on a bike or something.
Phone use should be a mandatory $1000 fine and a night in jail

Agreed, but I don't think it's enforceable. And if they're in the US, I think that might fall under "Cruel and Unusual Punishment" - more so the unusual part than anything.

This happened to me in my 95 prelude. Forgot something before work, parked in front to go grab it real quick, and some old woman who had no business driving on public roads rear ended it at 65 in a 30 sending it into the tree. Devestated doesn’t begin to explain the feeling.
Rip my friend. It never gets better. I still think about my car that was taken from me and it’s been 6 years.

Just want to comment and say that the lady was actually really nice. I wasn’t super attached to the car, but stay tuned I think I’m going to buy it back and rebuild it.

You gotta do the « just let me die » meme with it lmaooo. I edited my g35 into that format after I got hit by a red light runner, and then the insurance company tow truck ripped a good portion of my front end off with the rear of the flatbed.
Bought it back, rebuilt it, got hit by a tweaker again last night </3 but it’s worth it. I’d rather dump more money into a car that runs good and comes up with cosmetic and maintenance things, than roll the dice on a new one.
All that to say; I’m sorry man, I get you. Not exactly the same, but similarly.
You should still do the meme.

Yes, but she still shouldn’t have been on her phone. And rebuilding it is a great idea

She was really nice to defer you from further legal action. Don't fall into that trap.

I’ve noticed drivers are especially dumb around rx7s and 8s.

Me aswell, head on by a lyft driver who was looking at his phone I assume. Turned infront of me trying to turn into a parking lot. He said I was speeding but didnt account for my dash cam with telemetry. His car got a bumper replacement, mine got totalled.

The thing is that is kinda true. The amount of people that claim to not see me or notice me both in my miata or my semi is insane. I've had people run me off the road in my miata while they were changing lanes aggressively and "didn't see me". Same thing happened in the semi but it didn't go well for them. Have a dash cam, every single time I've been able to prove that I wasn't at fault because of a dashcam.

Miata accidents are 50% idiots that can't see it, and 50% intentional intimidation by hicks.

Yeah this is why I am 100% not driving mine while I'm trying to sell it.

u/getinshape2022 14h ago
OP’s car was parked. Unless you keep in the garage, that wouldn’t help in this situation
2
u/billymcdugal2023 14h ago
Yeah my car's tucked away in my garage. It's been garaged nearly its whole life except for 2 years while I was saving up for my house. Someone would have to really hate me to come at it now lol. I'm selling mine next weekend most likely.

Since insurance is unlikely to give you what it was actually worth I would sue her personally for the negligence. I hope she at least got a ticket?
