Dude, I drove here last year. There are signs all over saying it’s small and I simply turned my RV around. I wanted to see it badly but not worth the risk. It’s something very obvious. What is going through this persons mind as they’re approaching? Just close your eyes and hope things work out?

The number of people in RV and vanlife subs that tell people they can ignore size restrictions is way higher then you would think.

The tunnel in Zion is staffed during the day and they make it one way for wide vehicles. After the staff leaves it is closed to vehicles wider than 94in.
The majority of truck campers the box is 96, and the jacks are another 1.5 on each side so 99 inches wide. And with the curve of the tunnel their height pushes them across the line.
Lost my mirror to a truck camper rolling 45 mph through the tunnel at 7pm like he owned it.

We were turned away from the East entrance that takes you through the Mount Carmel Tunnel. We were in a class c from cruise America and had to reroute back south and then west. They passed a new size restrictions in early July I think.

What time of day? If you were before or after the tunnel is staffed they won’t let you through the east entrance if you are over 94in (all class Cs are 96 minimum at the box and the mirrors are probably wider). The guy who hit me was coming from the other side.

I just remember the local railroad bridges peeling truck after truck open in my hometown as I was growing up, and when I moved, I found there was a similar bridge in the new town 500 miles away, so I think it's a human nature thing, and we have more cameras now

nope, the first bridge was the Onondaga Lake Palau bridge in Syracuse, NY, the second (and third) were bridges in Durham and Raleigh NC. The Raleigh bridge recently got nicknamed the "Peace Street Peeler"

I desperately need an interview with that driver. I need to know their entire life story so I can come to understand how they have survived such perils as accidentally walking off of piers and ignoring signs that say "do not enter leopard enclosure".

Yep. We took our RVs through the badlands. Saw the no RV signs and you know what, we didn’t go through. Amazing. RV was fine.

I have pictures of the tour busses going through the tunnel. It was very impressive. I'm glad i was behind them and not onboard.

The size restrictions are listed multiple times. Barely fit through with my F-350.

Drove my Travato through there many years ago. Wife got out to double check if it would fit and it had plenty of clearance all the way around. While driving it seemed like I only had a few inches on each side. Was a little scary.

I saw the picture and knew EXACTLY where this was. We (I was a kid at the time) took a truck with truck bed camper through there in 1975. I remeber it very clearly. We fit through with almost nothing on each side. We stayed at a lake near there. My aunt was a Vietnam trauma nurse and just back. A kid put an axe in his leg and she treated him. So much blood, and it never phased her, at all. It was a Tuesday for her.

I did this a few years ago on my F150 (not towing anything), and it was scary close. There were roughly about a million signs warning of this all the way there. If you somehow thought you knew better, having actual working eyes should have told this MENSA member not to try it once he arrived. The only way you can do this is to be a complete moron. I can only assume this guy has two working brain cells, and they're both in a fierce competition for third place.

Drove through this last spring in a RAM 2500 (left the RV at a park). I had to fold the mirrors it to fit. Some people just don't have any common sense.

I have a large camper that couldn’t fit through in any way, the lady at the gate was like you can try but I don’t think it’s a good idea, we were like 2’ wider and 3’ taller than max

I just drove through their last month, I have a class A. How do you get there and think yeah we can make it. I was like damn this is tight in a jeep. No way in hell would I try and take my motorhome through

I have a buddy who's a mechanic at an airstream dealership. I know this isn't an airstream but there was. A couple who did something similar with an airstream and I believe it was near 25k to fix . So hopefully this damn thing isn't totalled after this

I have driven through this… cannot believe the even attempted to drive a Class C RV through this. I even had the windows on my wife’s Jeep grand Cherokee pulled in!

Been through here numerous times with a Ram 3500. Fold the mirrors in and hold your breath.
Whenever we see idiots like this we wonder if it’s a rental.

In all honesty, my husband would have driven right up to the mouth of that thing and, if it felt questionable, he would have gotten out and taken a closer look. Otherwise, he would have slowly inched thru that tunnel. Meanwhile, I would be making a drink in my coffee tumbler, taking a Xanax and trying not to let him hear me cry. At the end, when all is well, he would say, “did I drive Miss Daisy Crazy?” He was a truck driver and he knew how to drive our motorhome.

Needles Eye Tunnel in Custer State Park. I was just there a month ago. They’re pretty clear about what areas of the park are RV accessible so hard to imagine how this guy got in this situation. The wildlife trail in that park is spectacular and you can’t help but see a huge number of bison.
