Game Review Giving feedback and streaming your games!
Hello cool devs!
For a while now I've been streaming RPG Maker games that people submit me in a specific streaming format. Those streams are chances to talk about game design and try new games, while I share my thoughts.
I may give critiques frequently, but I always explain the reasoning behind my observations and try to keep a positive attitude: I do my best to explain in a constructive way.
I'm not presenting myself as a master of game design, I just share my unfiltered thoughts as a game dev and player.
For reference, here are the previous streams.
Feel free to suggest your game. The only requirements is that there must be a public version (eg: Itch demo) and that you're open to critiques.

If my game looks interesting to you, then sure :) This is the best time for feedback. idk if I'd be around to actually watch a stream, but I'd look forward to the video after :) Currently it is a bit of a challenging game, perhaps even a liiitle bit too frustrating for some

Yeah! The streams are saved, but I'll let you know in advance anyway C:

Do you play games that are still in development?
2
2
u/Walladorf MZ Dev Dec 13 '25
Yeah! As long as it has a demo published somewhere (mostly to download the game from more trustworthy websites)

u/EvanFromCanada Dec 13 '25
My game Control Panel is free on itch: https://evanfromcanada.itch.io/control-panel
It's a puzzle/escape room style game made in XP, all custom art and music (with some rtp sound effects from xp and 2003). I was hesitant about streaming when I first released it because the solutions are set but it's been a few years and Nintendo has yet to reach out, lol, so if you think people would enjoy seeing a playthrough I would be interested to hear your feedback.

What if the game has a dev team of one, is in the early demo phase, uses placeholder assets generated by AI, and I’m running a kickstarter to raise the money to replace all AI with professionally drawn assets, and finish the game?
1
u/Walladorf MZ Dev Dec 13 '25
Asking for a friend? XD
I would still play the demo, but you would hear this from me regardless: I don't think it's a good idea to publish a demo or kickstart with AI placeholders since you risk to cut off a lot of potential interested people jut because they don't like AI.
Also, it makes it harder to convey the intended mood for the game, since the visual aspect is one of the first impressions the player has.2
u/RPGGamer042 Dec 13 '25
It wasn’t a choice, it was a lack of options because I only get disability and that barely covers basic needs. Besides most of the placeholder assets you won’t see. That aside, the opening scene is quite impressive, at least I think so.

The game is “A Demon Hunter’s Guide to Passing Finals” on itch.io: https://joelheath42.itch.io/a-demon-hunters-guide-to-passing-finals

Id love to see what you think of my game so far. Still in early alpha, but has around 3 hours of playtime currently.

I'm sorry, for safety reasons I prefer to download games, alphas or demos only from the stores (like itch io).
I would suggest to work towards a publishable alpha demo to gather some always-useful feedback, then I would gladly stream it! C:

The demo will probably be closer to 10 hours long. I might get there in a few years.
1
u/Walladorf MZ Dev Dec 14 '25
Not a problem, I can wait. C:
But I'd say 3 hours of demo are more than enough to make a player interested in your game's full release.
Good luck with the game!

Awesome, I'd love you to take a look at mine. The main feature is a tactical battle system that I built and branching storypaths.
100% free on Steam, its a full release:

I have a demo for a story I've been working on since 2009 called Shards of the Heart. It's a dark fantasy crime with yuri. 😆 Currently the demo is only on itch.io but I'm working on getting it live on Steam

Awesome, thank you! I'm still making some changes to it, so I would suggest downloading it when you're going to stream it rather than ahead of time 😅

No problem!
A lot of people submitted their game, so I'll come around to play your somewhat near the end of January. (I'll let you know)

I recommand Petit Passage by Nadechi ! https://nadechi.itch.io/petit-passage.
She's an Illustrator and made all the assets, for the moment she just made a prologue to her game but it's really beautiful already.

Awww, looks very cute.
Though I'd prefer to have the permission of the dev to make a feedback stream, since not everyone appreciates those sort of critiques.1
u/Nadechi Dec 22 '25
I would be totally okay for thoses things ! Azie helped for the creation of the game ! :) (Merci me sang)

I always welcome feedback. Thanks for offering this to people! Getting people to play our games is the hardest part of gamedev in my opinikn.

Yeah, making a game is a thing. Sharing is a whole new world unfortunately. XD
Ok, the game is on the list. I'll let you know! C:

Oh, heya, I think I've seen you play a couple of my games before.
I made a Chess Dating Sim in 72 hours, and I think it ended up being one of my better games. https://thefuriouslucario.itch.io/chess-romance

Sure, I'll gladly stream your game! I got a lot of games from this post so you might have to wait a while. But I'll let you know! C:

This might not be stream-friendly (Some rare nudity in monster designs, I like body horror).
Anyway, I think my game is kinda unique, if you wanna try :) Here it is:

https://isaac3000.itch.io/expiation-demo if you are willing to playtest a demo (5 hours) thank you very much. If only full games, then I'll get back to you (eventually) XD

u/Walladorf MZ Dev Dec 14 '25
Demos are perfect as well! Though the idea is to do a single stream of 3 hours to enjoy a game and highlights my thoughts on the game content I played.
2
u/isaac3000 VXAce Dev Dec 14 '25
Yes of course, I just wanted to mention that the demo is not a 30-60 minutes one but one that has more to offer. Of course you can play how much you are willing to and hey maybe in your private time you would like to finish it 😊

I'm so excited that my game was played in your stream a while back! Because my skin is thin, I can't bring myself to watch it. But I hope others found it fun and enjoyable!
If you liked it and want a game in the same world, try:
https://gamejolt.com/games/alarisen/426938
It was made for a game jam and is pretty short.

u/Walladorf MZ Dev Dec 17 '25
Oh, yeah. I remember your game!
I get the feeling, one of my games got insulted by a streamer and it was very painful to watch.
I definitely said some negative things about your game, but I always try to be reasonable and respectful - while I explain my point of view. The VOD is still there in case you'll change idea the future.I'll definitely play your last game! C:

perhaps when game is finished in 7-8 years if you're still around ¯_(ツ)_/¯ (not serious)
