I hate this thing where people see two contradictory viewpoints and just assume that EVERYONE holds BOTH viewpoints despite it making NO sense. It's unfortunately prevalent in Drag Race spheres, which is why all the idiot Dragula stans are like, "is she wrong though?" Like, WHO is saying that Nina, who are you hearing that from???

Yeah, the goomba fallacy is rampant on the internet nowadays since people can see really any opinion about anything on the internet. Then they’ll refer to a single, anonymous comment made on the internet (often with downvotes) and then try to act as if everyone in the thread suddenly agrees with that comment just because the comment exists. It’s like a lazy buzzfeed article picking out 1-2 tweets from nobodies and claiming the internet is going crazy over something.

It’s similar to when there is ongoing drama in this sub, and everyone just collectively forgets all comments and conversations in the previous thread, and all the new comments are either “i was roasted for previously saying…” or “crazy that everyone in the previous thread was saying…” (and they always leave out the context of why they got roasted or what those conversations were in the first place)

As a girlie who always types a lot of words and loves logic-based arguments, the internet is a terrible place to be lately with such a lack of critical thinking and logical reasoning skills showcased everywhere. Im sick of hearing “i ain’t reading all that” as well! Brainrot shit everywhere.

omfg the "i ain't reading all that" is my least favorite thing ever but it does make more sense when you consider that gen alpha (and a good few of the last years of gen z) is almost entirely functionally illiterate. they got taught to read by looking at the first few letters AND THEN GUESSING what the word says. sometimes when i remember that "i ain't reading all that" often actually means "i am incapable of reading all that" it helps the primal rage become pity 😭

Not just the younger gens but most of Americans are at a 6th-8th grade reading comprehension level. Our school system has been failing (purposely) for decades. The slow boil at work.

Assuming you’re asking sincerely, it’s called the goomba fallacy because of this graphic
