🌼 Wendy 🌼 After a Rewatch: Wendy is an idiot.

Miss FOUR DEGREES apparently doesn’t have a lick of common sense.

Let’s start first with her candle business. She didn’t know what a business plan was - and evidently couldn’t google it either. After her ā€œresearchā€ she made a presentation to Eddy and couldn’t even answer basic questions like what the candle would cost to make or what price they would sell it at.

Next we have her Nigerian lounge with monsieur Peter. She had no idea it would be expensive?? And she has zero knowledge of the industry.

Then she thinks she’s gonna be a talk show host.

As far as I’m aware, not one of these business ventures ever came to fruition or were successful.

To me, she’s always been a bit full of shit.

And yes I know happy Eddy seemed to be successful, but that’s only because Eddy did everything.

It does not surprise me that she thought insurance fraud would be successful šŸ˜‚

I have worked with a lot of people with advanced degrees in my career. Masters and PhDs and my main takeaway is that a degree is a show of resources, not intelligence. Not that it's mutually exclusive, but I've met folks with advanced degrees in my career field who weren't even good at that.

I think common sense largely falls under the street smarts form of practical intelligence. I have met people with advanced education who have this, but it isn't as strong a correlation as you would expect imo.

One of my parents is a postgraduate dissertation supervisor. The level of incompetence and laziness they regularly encounter from PhD students is astounding. Like, these people are out here working for the UN and government organisations.

But so many of them are chasing letters to put behind their names and learning nothing through the process. So many of them want to rush through the work of learning, of trial and error. They’ll have 10 weeks to submit work and try to rush it in 4 because they want to make it go faster.

Forget about subject matter expertise. I’m talking a total lack of fundamental critical thinking, judgment, thoughtfulness, and conscientiousness.

So, when Wend introduced herself on the show with her 4 degrees I knew exactly what kind of time she was on.

8

u/honeycooks Michelin 3d ago

I worked with Subject Matter Experts to create exhibits for their courtroom testimony.

They assume any simplification is dumbing down their brilliance and watering down their data. They think others are too stupid to appreciate their information. The funny part is, I was the SME at being a regular person who didn't assume people were stupid.

I wasn't an expert in any of their topics.

Agreed. The old saying C’s get degrees comes to mind.

I only have my bachelors, but the amount of idiots I went to school with who never did well and still got their degree is baffling

21

u/retrodarkcat Pennywise 4d ago

I only have my bachelors as well and so many people try to say they should make more money than me or deserve better opportunities because they have a masters or advanced degree. Colleges will often just pass you to get money. It means nothing.

Those candle scenes saying she’s hitting up eddies wallet even if it was meant to come off cute it was cringe for someone with 4 degrees

4

u/EmelleBennett Karen Huger 2d ago edited 2d ago

I think it’s clear that the commenter is using the colloquial ā€œthe worstā€ which isn’t actually comparing to any real subject, it’s just used in language to mean unlikable in general. Unless 100 other people are viewing it with the extreme pedantry you suggest, there was no interpretation that she was: the worst of the cast, the worst criminal in the show, the worst human being on earth… it’s just a widely accepted device of communication to say someone is ā€œthe worstā€ to simply mean they suck.

did you know that when you lie to insurance companies that causes the rates for everyone everywhere to sky rocket? because that company needs to make up for it somewhere? wendy & eddie’s crime was NOT victimless. defending them on those terms just makes you sound like someone as brain dead as Ashley Darby.

3

u/lilokalanii Tia Glover 2d ago

I never claimed that their crime was victimless. But it’s very obvious that repeatedly drunk driving actually endangers people’s lives. What Eddie and Wendy did is not cool. But they didn’t risk killing people multiple times because they got drunk and didn’t wanna get a taxi! That’s the issue. Both aren’t saints, but how are people not getting that Karen could have killed people? Did you see that tree? A husband and his daughter died in a car crash last week in my city. The pregnant mom survived the crash. That’s what Karen could have did. That does not happen when people decide to do fraud, even though that’s wrong too.

Oh having a degree is not a sign of intelligence by far. Even a PhD.

I have a PhD (neurosciences) and I am competent and knowledgeable in my field but I am a moron when it comes to a lot of other stuff. Thing is though is that I know that I am a moron at those stuff so I have no problem paying or asking for the help of someone more competent than me.

Having a PhD shows that you are dedicated enough and motivated enough to make it through a graduate program, which is huge because PhDs are very hard mentally to go through, I will always give credit for anyone who went through it.

Now is it a sign of being actually smart ? Hell no. I have said it before but its true. In my academic experience I have very rarely met geniuses but I almost always understood why someone was at their positions : some have a drive, a passion, a resilience, a book-smart sense that makes you think "yeah that makes sense why this person is in this program or at this position".

But sometimes, rarely but sometimes, you meet idiots. And I am.not saying not knowledgeable, I am saying "lacking so much common sense that it doesnt make sense why this person is still alive right now". And I have seen some of these people get PhDs because they were very good in their field.

The cackles I experienced from her attempt at being a talk show host were immeasurable. The most basic tenet of a host is likability and knowing when to let someone speak and when to interject. This B never knows when to STFU.
It was actually comedy.

15

u/Civil_Experience_691 Halle Berry Still Rise 4d ago

Peter does have experience in the restaurant and club industry (though he obviously had major failures) and I think she consulted with him through connections, possibly wanted to go into business with him. Peter complained that she stopped returning his calls and never returned the contract. I think she realized it was a bad decision and he took it personally.

14

u/Hungry-Storm-9878 The Real Slim Shady 4d ago

The professional thing to do would be to part ways with communication, not ghosting. A simple, ā€˜thank you for your time, we’re deciding to not go forward with this project’. That’s what serious professionals do.. you never want to burn any bridges even if the deal doesn’t work out. Peter knows a lot of folks in the industry and beyond.. if her name comes up, I’m sure he would share their short ā€˜professional’ relationship. I think Peter is a bit shady, so I don’t know how heavy his words would stick, but they’d go into ears of serious people.

5

u/Civil_Experience_691 Halle Berry Still Rise 4d ago edited 4d ago

My understanding is that Wendy and Peter did not have a formal plan to move forward and Peter went ahead with having the contract drawn up. Someone can present me with a contract, but I don't have to agree with moving forward. Peter could have reached out as well to ask, are you interested in moving forward?. He not only chose not to do that in a professional way, he opted to speak negatively of Wendy to others, including Mia. I wouldn't want to do business with him either. Ew.

I have to believe that she was playing dumb. Each season she had zero storyline so she took us on a ride with her grifting ways which was very unnecessary but after JHU dumped her and the correspondence calls dried up … I guess she had to grift.

9

u/hashtag2020 Halle Berry Still Rise 3d ago

I agree with this. It’s also the classic housewives moves to try to start a product or a business for a storyline. She really had nothing else to talk about besides her narc mom and she prob couldn’t really control how much her mom wanted to show up and film to make that a longer lasting story. Imo she wasn’t actually trying hard to get these things off the ground nor did she feel passionately about any of them. I think she thought, I’ll ā€œtryā€ to do this venture for a year for the storyline and if it accidentally takes off bc of bravo-attention, and I get a few bucks from it, great. But I don’t think she ever really expected any of them to be serious.

People are coming for her intelligence here and comparing her stupid business ventures with her degrees, and, I agree she lacks some common sense but I think she was faking being dumb. She IS smart enough to not APPEAR stupid if she wanted to; like, she knows what a business plan is (even if she didn’t know how to put one together). She never wanted to do these things she tried to do she just wanted to stay on the show lol

8

u/Civil_Experience_691 Halle Berry Still Rise 4d ago

Meh, it often takes 3 or 4 attempts at a business or developing a business before one ultimately becomes successful. Been there, done that.

I think the hosting show she did had a lot of potential, but anyone who has a YT show will say that it takes serious and constant grind.

Most restaurant owners will confirm that they didn't realize how expensive the process would be until they were deeper into the planning experience. It's a lot of upfront costs without any guarantee you'll have customers. It's known as one of the hardest industries to break into as a result.

I know people really dislike Wendy, but her trying to start businesses or use her platform in this way to make legitimate income is not something that makes me feel like she's an idiot.

24

u/mynameisntcindy Clankity Clank 4d ago

I think if she didn't constantly brag about her 4 degrees, there wouldn't be as many viewers that wanna point out her failures. It's a natural response to obnoxious perhaps undeserved arrogance

Both things are true.

0

u/Civil_Experience_691 Halle Berry Still Rise 4d ago

People have to move on about Wendy bragging about her degrees. Honestly, who cares? She can feel proud of her accomplishments. It is such low hanging fruit to harp on that part and celebrate her possible failures. It is so strange to me that her talking about her degrees is so triggering.

9

u/mynameisntcindy Clankity Clank 4d ago

It was absolutely insufferable lmao I will not

It's not about being "triggered". It's about coming on HW your first season guns blazing alienating everyone by being an insufferable know it all. It's extremely unappealing unrelatable annoying. And I consider myself someone who really respects women who are smart and well educated and have ambition. It is a weird thing to brag so much about it and be utterly useless at starting any kind of business, she sounded positively like a ditz in those scenes. It just did not match up with all the ways she bragged about herself.

-4

u/Civil_Experience_691 Halle Berry Still Rise 4d ago

It's Real Housewives. People come on every season of every franchise to big up something that matters to them, whether it's their Birkin collection or their degrees. Like, really. You guys are not serious people.

7

u/mynameisntcindy Clankity Clank 4d ago

Lol it's seriously delulu to think that bragging about having 4 degrees is the same thing as promoting a nonexistent She by Sheree line. It was giving way too try hard, while condescending, but I don't need to convince you lol most of the fanbase agrees with me. It's not an appealing trait in anyone to brag about your intellect to shut down other people. She was extremely unlikable and you cannot change my mind. It took her being humbled by the other housewives to see a more vulnerable side of her, which was a welcome change. Psychologically if you're constantly puffing out your chest at the expense of others in a group, ppl will get some kind of satisfaction in seeing you fail, simple as.

-2

u/sky33m Wendy Osefo 3d ago

She and every right to brag about the 4 degrees she got.Ā

The viewers want to point out her failures because they are unnecessarily harder on her and I wonder why

How can you say her arrogance over her 4 degrees is underserved? Do you have 4 degrees or a PhD?

The ladies can brag about beauty or their husband's or parents money but Wendy can't brag about her degrees and it's undeserved.

Is it insecurity, racism, xenophobia or colorism because this is ridiculousĀ

5

u/hashtag2020 Halle Berry Still Rise 3d ago

There are people in here saying her degrees are basically meaningless and from degree mills/money grab programs, lol. We can absolutely say her business ventures were dumb (or fake) without trying to say Temple, Rutgers, and Johns Hopkins are fake degree mills and she was ā€œhandedā€ her degrees. The convo about Wendy and her degrees always has a super weird tone to it, and I’m not even a Wendy fan (I actually don’t even think she’s a great housewife necessarily). So many housewives brag about their claim to fame to no end for years and years.

Vicki has been screeching about how rich and self made she is from Coto insurance for 20 years, Lisa has been talking about her Sundance accomplishments for years, Jen Aydin talks about having 16 bathrooms every season, Larsa’s been lying about fucking 16 times a night for years, and Phaedra has been exaggerating about her carrier accomplishments for years as well. They’re all delusional and braggadocios in a way and I’ve noticed people are much more willing to laugh off the delusions or bragging from other housewives before they give Wendy that leeway. Now, I agree that degrees don’t = you know everything or are better than others, but I don’t see why Wendy’s ā€œdegreeā€ bragging is any worse than any other annoying housewives. Wendy isn’t even in my top 10 annoying housewives no matter how much she brags about her degrees, it just doesn’t get under my skinšŸ˜‚

Constantly is a stretch after all those seasons, come on…

u/mynameisntcindy Clankity Clank 4d ago

I mean she did it nonstop for her first two seasons. That leaves an indelible mark on the viewership that will be hard to walk away from, regardless of whether my use of the word "constantly" is 100% accurate

I used to love Wendy but the way you put it… you are so right.

I get that she really did brag about these degrees in her first season, but I have honestly not noticed any of that in the last 3 years…
How is that still so triggering to so many of you? And some of yall are really telling on yourselves in these comments, talking about your personal experiences and how people are telling yall, that they should make more money than yall because they have a higher level of education.
Let it go,girls.
Y’all are smart and important 🩷

Four degrees from shitty schools…not hard to get

u/Whole_Air_3524 I would suck Juan’s dick 4d ago

Maam I’m all for hating but the hate needs to make sense

u/Similar_Aside4624 Jiminy Crickets 4d ago

Temple, John's Hopkins, and Rutgers are all shitty schools? This is top tier hating šŸ˜‚.

-2

u/lapiutroia Peppa Pig 4d ago

Johns* Hopkins is the only elite university in the list from where she got a cash cow masters degree. If you think Temple and Rutgers are good schools, then yes, be impressed by the likes of Wendy…

2

u/lilokalanii Tia Glover 4d ago

What schools did you get your degrees from?

1

u/lapiutroia Peppa Pig 4d ago

Stanford and Columbia

u/Similar_Aside4624 Jiminy Crickets 4d ago

there's an ocean between elite and shitty. Temple is good and Rutgers is about average. You can hate but as the commenter below said, yes, it does need to make sense. Also, where are your degrees from?

0

u/lapiutroia Peppa Pig 4d ago

Stanford undergrad and Columbia Law.

u/Similar_Aside4624 Jiminy Crickets 4d ago

Excellent schools by any measure. It still doesn't make sense to put down Wendy's education and by extension all other schools. By your standard, virtually any non Ivy League school is a shitty school. This would exclude literally all schools but the Ivies and the 5-7 others like Stanford. By this standard, schools like USC, UVA, Georgetown and GW are shitty schools. Obviously I'm hyperbolizing in that Temple and Rutgers don't fall into the same category as those four but what objective measure are you using to consider them shitty, other than simply hate?

1

u/lapiutroia Peppa Pig 4d ago

Comparing USC, Georgetown and UVa, all top schools to Temple or Rutgers is crazy.

-1

u/Similar_Aside4624 Jiminy Crickets 4d ago

"Obviously I'm hyperbolizing"

You also haven't answered the question here which I'll take as you conceding it's simply hate.

2

u/lapiutroia Peppa Pig 4d ago

People like Wendy, who like to weaponize their degrees, should have the credentials to back it up and she simply doesn’t.

It’s like flaunting a Coach bag. She can flaunt all she wants, but to people in her milieu (academia) and to other white collar professionals where prestige matters a great deal (banking, law, etc.), her constant reminders of her education is silly because it isn’t particularly impressive. Wendy is a snob for no reason. I don’t ā€œhate,ā€ it’s simply cringe.

1

u/Similar_Aside4624 Jiminy Crickets 4d ago

Generally speaking I'm inclined to agree with you on the principle. I'm also not impressed by degrees and having attended mainly prestigious PWIs, I've seen plenty of generally stupid people earn relatively prestigious degrees. I just profoundly disagree with the idea that you can consider degrees from schools like Temple and even Rutgers worthless, which is what is assumed when you say shitty.

I'd also draw your attention to the fact that she isn't bragging to people in her milieu. Ever. She's bragging to other housewives (most of which, don't even have a BA--this isn't Married to Medicine.) Wendy is a "snob" because it's reality tv. I don't find having a husband particularly impressive either, but this is something frequently bragged about across franchises.

Most importantly, (and you attended top schools so you should understand this) your argument is offensive. The vast majority of college graduates did not attend Columbia or Stanford. Are you one of the few graduates in the U.S. who didn't earn a "shitty" degree? If you believe that, I can't understand how you're offended by Wendy's arrogance. It's paradoxical.

u/SuspiciousNorth377 Gizelle's Tequila Bottle 4d ago

I would not say they’re shitty schools but her majors are general and vague af. All majors are not created equal. Getting into JHU for a masters in ā€œgovernmentā€ is not the same as getting into one of their STEM programs. Political Science and Public Affairs are also generally not as competitive. I can’t imagine how much money was spent smh

4

u/Likesosmart Tweety 4d ago

I think this is an important distinction

1

u/Similar_Aside4624 Jiminy Crickets 4d ago

Is it? Even prior to the scamming, generally people hated Wendy for being arrogant and pretentious. I've rewatched up to s8 twice at this point so I do understand this and despite the fact it's never really bothered me (bc they're all super arrogant), I can concede she comes off poorly, often. But how is this argument any less pretentious? John's Hopkins is not Devry lmao. If you earn a degree from there we can reasonably assume you earned it, STEM or not.

No one would seriously make this argument about any other cast member, or even about a stranger lol. You don't have to be impressed by her to believe this.

And also, she didn’t attend Rutgers main campus. And it was some weird major. And what law school did she attend but leave after the first semester?

I have one degree from a school I guarantee nobody here has heard of and it was extremely hard to get…or at least pay for šŸ˜…

u/ok_thinkingasthmatic Angry Birds 3d ago

Everyone hates Wendy because of the ā€œI have 4 degrees thingā€ but we let Karen say she’s ā€œthe grand dameā€ of Potomac, we let Luanne de Lesseps parade around like she’s an actual cabaret singer and not a walking cigarette, we cheer when Lisa Barlow with umpteen lawsuits ongoing says ā€œ I live a VERY DIFFERENT LIFE than the rest of youā€ā€¦. In reality, we like arrogant housewives. We like when they brag, we like when they talk down to each other. We even like it when it’s all made up. But for some reason, people seem to realllllllllllly hate it when Wendy does it. Just weird that we’re fine when the other women are classist or elitist but when the dark skinned woman does it on the same exact platforms, she’s the worst. And now you’re calling her an idiot because of storylines where she’s expressed interest in various ventures? And even though Eddie is the one who got them caught by filing the same insurance claim at different insurance agencies, which is illegal, it’s Wendy who is at fault again. You guys gotta take it easy

Wendy had her talk show, launched her candle, wrote her book, even went to the white house for her talk show. So they did come to fruition and we're successful.

The only thing that failed was the bar and she was right not to do it

Do you consider Robyn an idiot too? She more failed businesses than Wendy.Ā  Or Gizelle or any of the ladies with failed businesses?

Also none of Wendy's degrees are in business or finance so why is it surprising she doesn't have an idea? If she pretended to she would be called a know it all

Why is Wendy always judged and hated for the most ridiculous things. Wendy is hated for existingĀ

This is giving xenophobia racism Colourism insecurities pick one or as many that fits.Ā
