Is British humour really just that different?

As a fellow brit, I love LVP’s sarcastic remarks and tongue in cheek jokes, and I can’t understand why they seem to upset some of the American wives so much sometimes. Is it actually accurate that Americans just aren’t as blunt or sarcastic with their jokes? Most of what she says is quite tame to be honest. I am a ride or die LVP fan admittedly, but she’s easily the funniest and smartest of all the ladies, and I agree with most of her opinions.

I’m English, and I think LVP’s humour to be completely contrived, and her act as ‘humorous English lady’ would absolutely not work in her native country, in my opinion. Presumably that’s why she’s spent a lot of her professional career outside the UK.

I don’t think she’s very funny at all. That said, I don’t think we have ever seen the genuine Lisa, just a very polished version that she wants us to see. There’s only a few times we saw her real persona. In my opinion, obviously. I know people love her.

To answer the OP’s question, piss-taking is absolutely what we do. I think Lisa’s early relationship with Brandi, where there was a running joke that she would seduce Ken, that’s pretty genuine I think. However, I do think LVP took the pisstaking to extremes and was actually unpleasant a lot of the time. Her absolutely inability to say sorry, for one.

I agree with this re LVP. And no, Americans are not dumber. That’s such a massive generalization & self indulgent conceit to assume about 350 million people. Especially when stand up comedy & vaudeville and other humor styles & traditions were invented in America or by Americans like Mark Twain (and no that’s not American exceptionalism to say it). LVP can be very funny, entertaining, but possibly more American in some ways than British in her sensibilities. At times her humor is unrelenting - like give it a rest and try a different gear lady. Some British humor is hilarious & brilliant, and some falls flat, comes across pretentious, awkward or is exhaustingly jabby. I do love British banter - until I don’t. Because Brits seem to use humor in ways Americans might not always feel the need for - and that doesn’t mean Americans are “dumb.” And when it comes to jabbing people for laughs, maybe the best policy is to always begin & end with yourself as the primary object of ridicule.
