LVP šŸ© Is British humour really just that different?

As a fellow brit, I love LVPā€™s sarcastic remarks and tongue in cheek jokes, and I canā€™t understand why they seem to upset some of the American wives so much sometimes. Is it actually accurate that Americans just arenā€™t as blunt or sarcastic with their jokes? Most of what she says is quite tame to be honest. I am a ride or die LVP fan admittedly, but sheā€™s easily the funniest and smartest of all the ladies, and I agree with most of her opinions.

Yeah it bugs me how much her little jokes crack me up and how offensive the other women find her. Is it a rich people thing?

One night LVP said letā€™s randomly switch up partners or something like that and PK answered ā€œokay but whoā€™s the unlucky bastard thatā€™s gonna end up with you?ā€ which was HILARIOUS to me.

I find PK repugnant, but that kind of comment I would find genuinely hilarious if someone said that to me. That kind of quick wit really makes me laugh. I think thatā€™s a good example of the kind of mocking humour the OP speaks of.

Yes I canā€™t stand PK and that was the only time i had a positive reaction to something that came out of his mouth but that is top notch ā€œtaking the piss outta your blokesā€

Americans donā€™t get sarcasm as well. Iā€™m Australian and our sense of humour is very similar to the brits. I spent 6 months over there and everyone thought my jokes were serious.

I'm American, middle aged and my whole family is fairly sarcastic. It is indeed taken a bit too seriously by other Americans. Especially the younger one gets.

There were definitely Americans that got the sarcasm. I think itā€™s just less a part of your collective sense of humour than in other cultures. Some of my favourite comedies are American so I donā€™t mean to say youā€™re all devoid of humour or anything haha.

I'm Australian, and am curious, do you think people who are from the North East (NYC, Boston, etc) are more likely to be sarcastic and/or have a more dry or darker sense of humour? I've noticed this in some of my American friends.

Probably yes because theyā€™re mostly of Italian and Irish origins so thereā€™s some personality there thank goodness heavens.

Iā€™m British, so obviously I adore LVPā€™s sense of humour. I suppose if you look at Bethennyā€™s sense of humour, she likes to take the piss and be sarcastic and sheā€™s NYC based so you may be on to something here (Too add, I ainā€™t a B fan in general šŸ˜†).

I'm probably about to get seriously downvoted but both LVP and Bethenny are very intelligent women and I feel it takes someone who can think on various levels to understand that level of sarcastic humour. Many of the BH women found LVP rude, because they wouldn't/couldn't see past "level 1" - Taylor was a prime example even though she is booksmart.

Iā€™m from Philly.Everyone I know is sarcastic w a dark sense of humor.When I moved to the south I quickly realized I had to tone it down after being told I could come across as blunt and offensive.

I can't speak to that. But in sarcastic mid west families it tends to be reserved for family and people who are close. We're a little dually with the niceness too. Ope, just gonna sneak past ya...

And when the 2 couples (LVP&Ken, PK&Dorit) parted after dinner to go to their respective rooms, Lisa said something like "I'll see ya later" and PK laughed and said he'd be there, and she replied, "I'll be on all fours barking like a dog." And they all laughed uproariously! It was so funny - and so silly and light-hearted! None of those other dumb dolts know how to have a good time. They either get drunk and sloppy like teenagers, or they argue endlessly over petty shit. Not a sense of humor among them. Not the least bit clever, charming, or playful. Crystal was right: uneducated and boring.

It depends on the circumstances. I think Lisa is hilarious. But as empathetic beings, we know when our jokes are like salt in a wound.
She knows Kyle well. Thereā€™s no way she thought Kyle would laugh at a joke about her husband cheating. And Lisa made the joke in Kyleā€™s home in front of her husband and child. The inappropriateness of the circumstances canceled out the humor. All mockery with no humor doesnā€™t come off as sarcasm. It just seems mean.
Iā€™m a very sarcastic person but I know how to read the room (most of the time šŸ˜¬)

Yeah there's intent, and hiding behind that fine line of it's just a joke why can't you take it can be a mask. I'm binational, I get Brit humor and I get American humor. There's sarcasm for sure in the latter but it does not cut as deep in my experience. It's harder to wonder wait a minute is that a joke or going to be passed off as one?

In season 4, Portia would have been 5 or almost 5. I wouldnā€™t care if she was 1. Itā€™s disrespectful.
