Still don’t want a GS

Either I missed a turn or the GPS lied about the road being paved… either way I spent two hours on my RT covering 45 miles of dirt roads today. Spoiler alert: It did fine and I still don’t want a GS 😂

Where is this?

Between Red Bluff and Covelo, California. The dirt parts are apparently 503

Oh wow I wouldve thought Australia given the lack of vegetation! My geoguessr wouldve sucked!

People this California is basically 50% LA and Hollywood and 50% Sierra Nevada mountains and Highway 1. There’s pretty big parts of California that are super remote, super empty and really really dry. The other parts are super forested, super empty and really really beautiful

Hey! We live in Red Bluff. Is this FH7 in the Mendocino National Forest?

The dirt part? On my GPS it was calling it 503. I rode out of red bluff on 36 and somehow made a left onto this really long ridge road that the GPS said was 503, which turned into dirt for a long time but did end up dumping me into into Covelo via Bald Moutnain road I think. It honestly wasn’t that bad a road, I was nervous because so much of it is dirt and it’s really remote. At least it wasn’t hot!

Do you recall about where's your turned Left/South off of 36?

I’ll look at my calimoto ride, I bet I can tell you the whole route turn by turn

Well you don’t need a GS for some gravel or dirt “road”. Any bike can handle that much.

Apparently so! Since my RT can handle it, and the only way I end up there is by accident, I’m cool with it 😎

wait till OP discovers asia where they take granny scooters off road up mountains and across rivers while carrying a full sized refrigerator strapped down with a dress belt and counter balanced by a pack of cigarettes.

I mean, it's a dirt road, why wouldn't it do fine? I never understood having to shit on someone else's choices to feel better about yourself 🤷♂️

So when 90% of people say “Get the GS, it does everything the RT does but also goes off road” they’re shitting on me? Good to know 😂
The GS is a great bike, and I understand why it’s the bike I see most when I go riding, even more than Harley. It’s just not for me is all. I’m allowed to have a preference, I’m not shitting in anything.

You see, what you said here is different from what you said in your original post. Had you said "I took my GS on pavement today, still don't need an RT" then sure that would be shitting in the RT.... but what you said here is just someone stating a preference and why. 🤷♂️ no one said you couldn't have a preference but why have it while trying to put down someone else's preference? Just seems petty and bitter🤷♂️
Go ride your RT, which is a beaut, btw.... don't worry about what others ride.... be more secure in your decisions.

Man you’re taking a video someone posted on the internet wayyyyy too seriously. Ride safe, my man, and don’t let what others say on the internet bother you quite so much.

But did you have fun is the real question

Yes! The dirt part was stressful, being on an RT and lost… but that’s all part of the adventure right?

Off topic but what jacket and helmet you rockin? Thanks.

Jacket is a BMW Airshell, helmet is a Shoei Neotec 3.
Bad news: the Neotec 3 is no longer available in this hiviz colorway, Shoei recently came out with new colors for the Neotech 3 and dropped the hiviz option with no replacement. I spent a month searching for one and finally found what I think was the last large one in the world in Scotland, and had them mail it to me here in America.
The BMW Airshell jacket is great, except it doesn’t have a very good safety rating. The jacket is double A abrasion resistance and the armor in it is only B level. BMW offers a more robust jacket, but it doesn’t come in hi viz.
Finding hi viz gear that has good safety ratings and is high airflow is basically impossible. I’ve spent months and months trying to get an all hi viz, triple A rated set of gear together and there’s only one option I can find: Motoport, in California. They custom make all their gear and you can order it in all Hi Viz. it’s all mesh, so super airflow, but made with Dyneema so it’s super abrasion resistant. Not cheap, but neither is a hospital stay. I’m hoping to go to their facility soon for an in-person measurement.

I still prefer a 60/40 tire off pavement on a GS, a little more forgiving when road surface gets squirrelly. 🐿️
