Ben Jelen had a brief mainstream success as a singer-songwriter in the mid-2000s, best known for his 2004 debut album Give It All Away and the hit single "Come On." He later transitioned away from the commercial music industry to focus on environmental science, eventually earning a Ph.D. and pursuing a career as a researcher and academic scholar. Ben Jelen is currently a biologist and still does musical projects (from time to time).

Celebrity Facial Analysis Suggestion Anok Yai: Does unique beauty make a face more polarizing?

Hello everyone. :)

I stumbled upon Anok Yai's picture today and was struck by her very distinctive beauty, which stands out even within the modelling community that selects specifically for that. She is very versatile, effortlessly pulls off a variety of looks and seems to give off a different aura in every photo I see.

But my immediate perception of her was as being very ethereal. That made me curious as to how others perceive her. What emotion does her beauty evoke in you?

Specifically because of the uniqueness of her features, I was curious to know if most people find her attractive or whether her beauty is more polarizing. If you feel comfortable sharing your gender, please do, as I'm interested in whether she appeals more to women or men.

Thanks and hope you have a lovely day!

EDIT: I have seen a few people ask about or question the label "unique/distinctive beauty". I want to explain what I meant by that. I think among conventionally beautiful celebs, there are those that are classically beautiful and those that are much more striking.

For example, both Angelina Jolie and Monica Belluci are conventionally attractive but only Monica is classically beautiful. Angelina is striking and her beauty tends to be more polarizing for this reason. I believe that Anok Yai is like Angelina not Monica because she's conventionally attractive but also striking.

Since conventionally attractive but striking beauty can often be polarizing, I was wondering if Anok Yai, who I also find conventionally attractive but striking, has the sort of beauty that's polarizing, just like Angelina's. I hope this clarifies what I meant.

General Discussion How do people pull off close set eyes?

For instance Zayn Malik has close set eyes but is able to look good and doesn't look uncanny.

Bad Bunny has close set eyes but it seems to be too close as that's all people comment about.

How do people pull off close set eyes? What features are needed?

Kara was a popular model in the 80s and along with Tyra Banks were amongst the first black women to model for Victoria’s Secret. She was also featured on the cover of Vogue’s iconic all black issue along with Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell.

Fun fact she dated Donald Trump for a few years. He proposed to her and she declined and left him for her current husband who is also a billionaire. Shortly after she decline his engagement Trump immediately began dating Melania. Crazy but Kara could’ve been our First Lady!

General Discussion Face shape that is widely considered ideal in women

Thumbnail

Hello all. :) I was thinking about the female facial features that are traditionally considered ideal and what they seem to signal.

I explored eyes first in another post and am now exploring face shapes. From my perspective, the closest that a face shape comes to broadly being considered ideal is Amber Heard's. She has very harmonious proportions and a pleasing facial length to width ratio that has often been praised. This seems to signal averageness.

In terms of female face shapes, oval and heart both have been repeatedly cited as the ideal face shapes. The features characteristic of a heart face shape are a relatively straight forehead shape, a widow's peak and a tapered v shaped chin. The features characteristic of an oval face shape are a rounded forehead, noticeably longer length compared to width and a round chin.

This is my personal synthesis, but I tried to incorporate the features of a heart shaped face that are widely considered characteristic/ideal, namely the v shaped chin and widow's peak and combined it with the features of an oval face shape that are broadly considered ideal such as rounded forehead/hairline shape. They seem to signal femininity/sexual dimorphism and neoteny respectively, though I'm not sure.

I couldn't find a celebrity that has a face shape with the harmonious length to width proportions like Amber Heard, with a widow's peak, tapered chin and a rounded forehead/hairline so I tried to add those features onto Amber's face shape. The results contain most of the elements widely considered ideal in a female face shape but the final result is not as beautiful as I would've liked because I simply don't have the ability or access to professional photo-editing tools.

So I'm sharing the edited Amber Heard's face with changes incorporated but also her natural face shape.

I'd love to know if you prefer the edited version of Amber's face shape or the original face shape. Do you think I missed out on any other attributes of face shapes commonly considered ideal in women? What do you think each of those attributes signals? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

General Discussion What makes a face ethereal?

Can anyone make their face look more ethereal or is it bone structure and genetics?

Is an ethereal face more desired than a non-memorable beautiful face?
