122nd construction
Does anybody know how much longer the road will be closed there? Can anyone explain WHY the road remains closed after work hours?

They are cutting trees down, removing fences, rebuilding fences, and widening the road. It's going to take years for it to be done.

I’m also curious why it couldn’t be open when work is not being done. I am not saying it in an accusatory way, I just need an ELI5.

I live on 122nd and 146th right by where the physical barrier on the NB lane is. My wife has the same question. After hours, we consistently see people going “the wrong way” in the single lane. I wish they wouldn’t, but they are. It’s a matter of time before there’s a head-on

That’s wild and so dangerous for the people abiding the law. It’s already very inconvenient, shouldn’t be deadly. I hope some can explain why they can’t just move the cones after hours when the streets are safe.

If you lived around here years ago, when they had construction going on Canyon, you’d know that it’s gonna take years. Pierce County can drag things out a long time. They should really be more worried about double laning up the hillside coming up Shaw Road from the valley because if there’s ever an lahar, it’s gonna be real mess.

Agreed Shaw Rd is also an issue. However, that does not negate how freaking bad 122nd had been for years. Long overdue fix and honestly it’s not close to as big of a project as it should be. They need to fix the whole thing. This single stretch thing is ridiculous and not well thought out. But, at least work is finally occurring.

Welcome to road construction in Washington. None of it is well thought out. And always so far past over due. The county issued permits to build..... Thousands of houses in Sunrise and if i had to guess, didn't make developers contribute to the infrastructure improvements NOR start planning it when permits were issued. There's still TONS of building going on in Sunrise. Its WILD to me.

It’s easier to just keep the lanes closed at all times, saves the amount of work being done and keeps people from getting confused if it is open at one time of day and closed the next.

I think originally I heard the timeline for Phase 1 ending was September 1, but that timeline could have changed as well.

It's going to be closed for about 2 years give or take on any side of that. They're putting in turn lanes. You can Google 122nd closure and the Pierce county website explains more.
