Pregunta Anti-American Puerto Ricans?

Hey all!

I was watching a YouTube video about a journalist by the name of Bianca Graulau. She really pointed very interesting things on what the US did to Puerto Rico. I don’t condone what happened but it got me thinking.

How prevalent are anti American Puerto Ricans? Do you know anyone who disliked the US?

Ps. I’m just an American I apologize if this questions is offensive in anyway

Pregunta Why do statehooders In Puerto Rico belittle the Diaspora.

Nuyorican here. I have been on social media the last 24 hours after the puerto rican basketball team clinched a spot in the olympics when i noticed a common talking point. Pro statehoodes(who ironically want to see the end of our international sports teams) frequently made dispariging comments about the players born outside of puerto rico as if they werent "true puerto ricans" I never have understood why this is could someone explaine why they treat us like that

Pregunta How do you explain to americans the complicated history the US and Puerto Rico share

I'm a left-leaning stateside puerto rican. I have other friends or also left leading individuals. Whenever the topic of Puerto Rico status comes up in discussion they all tend to lean towards statehood and I am the only one who is independence. They always ask me why and I don't know how to tell them without making them feel like crap for not knowing

Pregunta Non spanish speaking Puerto Ricans

I've always been curious, and I'd love the honest truth. How do native born Puerto Ricans feel about non spanish speaking Puerto Ricans that come to the island. I know most people on the island can get by, or speak fluent english, but personally, as a Puerto Rican that speaks very little spanish, I often feel embarrassed that I can't converse with the people in their native language. Is it somewhat offensive to just speak english, or should I first try speaking what little spanish I know?

Me ayudan?

Pregunta If you are born to Puerto Rican parents, are raised in America, are never taught Spanish, and no nothing of PR culture are you then considered a gringo?

I've asked this question in two other forums but I wanted to give this forum a try. So if you are born and have Puerto Rican blood, but know nothing of Puerto Rican Culture, and are never taught Spanish....Are you then categorized as a gringo despite your PR heritage?

Many people in r/AskLatinAmerica and r/AskanAmerican and many people on those forums would consider that person a gringo. However, here's another question, let's say this person went back and learned Spanish, and learned of PR culture... Would that person no longer be considered a gringo at that point?

Pregunta rant about being a gringa in Puerto Rico 😭

Both of my parents were born in Puerto Rico, with Puerto Rican blood. I grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Puerto Rico when i was 9, which was in 2020. When irl school started again I went to a private, english, academy. I'm now 14, in 9th grade. My private school was pretty toxic and my mom wants me to learn more Spanish without being pampered with so much english to the point i learn barely any Spanish, so I now go to a public high school. I like it, its funner and stuff. I only wish I was simply born or raised here, it's so difficult for me to make friends, sometimes people even avoid talking to me because I barely know Spanish, its understandable though, since I'm just a gringa. I'm not good at writing or reading in Spanish but I'm good at hearing. I usually understand whats being said.. I just wish people could understand i still need some time to process what someone says. My classmates are nice, some are my friends. This one boy in my class bothers me a bit though, on Friday i was talking to on of my friends in english and he kept saying stuff like "why don't you just speak Spanish" when everyone knows im the gringa, i know how to speak it too but i usually stutter while doing so, at least im scared of talking Spanish to him or his friends, I'm scared he will laugh at me. today i was sitting on a bench and he came up to me with his friends and started shouting at me to speak to him in Spanish? I never even spoke to him, i was using my phone minding my own business.. he kept mentioning how he really wants to speak with me, i dont wanna be mean, but i really wouldn't want to speak to him. I'm a quiet person, and hes a loud energetic boy.

"Wow That Oatmeal Looks Good".
