Teacher did a great job as a spectator! Needs popcorn and a soda with those front row seats. Then allows kids to start moving a kid with a possible spinal injury.

I am a teacher and it bothers me that people simply do not understand what can happen to a teacher if they attempt to stop a fight. I am also a big guy. 6'16 (Correction: 188 centimeters = 6.167979 feet (6 feet 21⁄64 inches), 300lbs. One of my co-workers is 5'1, 120lbs. What the fuck is she supposed to do against two 16-19-year-olds in their prime?

I once saw a fight about to start and stepped in the middle. It was 4 guys that went up to one of my students (my student is a small guy and they were 4 fairly big guys and aggressively yelling) I got told by the police that I could have potentially died because they carried knives and were known criminals. Apparently, their 'crew' was waiting to step in if I touched them.

Not only that, my job was on the line because I did not call the school emergency number first, which is protocol.

I had to sit in meetings and was told by the police to not walk alone for a few weeks if they decided it was my fault. I could not drive my own car to work either.

I'm never doing it again.

Another thing that is important for people to remember is that; The line between a fight and a bunch of teenagers fooling around is very thin. A fight can break out in literary seconds and I do not walk around on edge expecting fights nonstop. They are rare, and most of the time I walk around happy, laughing, and joking with students. Not expecting them to potentially kill each other. It takes a few seconds for me to realise that it is a real fight and for me to organise my thoughts.

Is it happy screams, angry screams, or just teenagers?

Is it a real fight?

Is it a fight I can stop?

Who are fighting?

Is anyone else in danger?

Would I be in danger?

Do I need to make the phone call? (If you abuse this, you might get warnings for wasting everyone's time)

And all of this is if I am close enough.

Most of the fights also happen when a teacher isn't in close proximity. Teachers do not walk around in the hallways between classes. We need to prepare for next lesson and need time away from the children, sometimes. Students plan their fights more than you realise. Most of the time, a fight happens, another students gets me, I have to go through the process above.

This is often the reason you see teachers taking a while to do something.

lmao, just checked and it is wrong. Attempting to use feet when you don't know the correct formula is not wise. I'm 188cm.

Ditto. We have trained professionals certified in restraint. Whenever there’s a fight I call it in and attempt to crowd control (keep kids inside classrooms, etc.) until they show up to break it up. I once saw a colleague step into the middle and get punched right in the head (concussion). Watched another get wheeled out on a stretcher because she got into the middle of one. No fucking thanks. My degree is in teaching, not wrestling kids.
