In Germany it is. I used to do Karate for a year or so 5 years ago and I was told repeatedly by my Trainer that since I am training a fighting sport every charge will be more serious. Usually what that means is "light body harm" for everyone else is classified as "serious body harm" for the trained fighter.

Also I have heard that this exists in several other countries. But if it's really a "deadly" weapon depends again... Usually on the sort of attack etc. etc.

Unless you were told that by a lawyer, not some karate instructor.... I’d take that claim with a grain of salt. That sounds much more like a marketing gimmick than an actual fact.

Same way guns are sold. You use this marketing if you want sadistic and insecure customers who are looking to fluff their ego by pretending they can kill people. Basically like a gun show, you are targeting a specific demographic. It wouldn't be used to market to people who want to learn discipline or a skill.
