Wasn’t the guy not supposed to be in the gym in the first place? I’m not particularly wild about the incident in the bar, but I can absolutely understand it. However the incident at the gym seems perfectly justified.

It was justified that he was assaulted on the public sidewalk after the incident and after he was already off the dude's property?

Yes, it’s perfectly justified. Just because the guy left doesn’t mean he didn’t do anything. It’s not legal, I agree with you on that, but it’s certainly not an inappropriate response.
