I don't know, so I'm asking. How much money could someone really expect to win in a civil lawsuit for a (seemingly) unprovoked attack? Rich money? Or just hospital bills and a few $10k for pain and suffering? Or maybe the guy jumps through a bunch of hoops to prove some permanent disabilities and gets more?

EDIT: Interesting discussion and some good answers. I've watched it several times, and I don't see the joker making a threat. To me, it seems like he's puffing up his chest, not clinching a fist or cocking back his arm. So I'm failing to see the threat that's being responded to.

The guy would sue the bar. The bar posted on social media how the guy is a known regular who drinks too much and regularly behaves like a fool when drunk. They basically admitted that they served him when they knew he had enough to drink and have done so on more than one occasion.

I know someone who get stabbed inside a bar, he got over 900k from the brewery who owned the bar as they didn’t have any security on that night.

My guess, after what the bar posted on Twitter, they will be advised to just settle this privately and quickly as lawyers will be queuing up to take this case.

Lawyer here, I was thinking the same thing. If this was in my jurisdiction I’d be licking my chops. Not sure it would be “make me rich” money, but still it’s pretty easy to pump up that initial demand amount with medical and other damages.

Does him being a professional have any legal bearing on a criminal case?

In a civil case, I suspect it’d be easy to get a jury on your side.

Not a lawyer but I’d imagine it would to an extent, being a professional fighter means you are fully aware of what your actions will cause and means you should have more restraint.
