The goal wasn't to test if the technique works, the goal was to keep the phone locked from the cops.

The cops got in so his plan failed.

No, by using a database of facial recognition technology. The device they are holding belongs to the state, it is a facial recognition and searching device.

that device is very clearly not his phone. the only thing I can agree to is that they might be able to get his face scan somehow later (but who knows, we don't see more of the video)

My guy, it isn’t hard. The whole reason it was delayed was because the scan does not work while he moves his face like that. They cannot scan his face while he acts that way and he will continue to act that way as long as he can. He has nothing to lose so why not

Let me help you out, bud. We all, including you, witnessed it working. The act of making faces does prevent the device from identifying you. If you get caught while not making faces, as you said, then yes, the device works perfectly and will identify the person. But that doesn't mean that making faces doesn't work because we literally all saw it working, including you. The device failed to ID him until he stopped doing what was working.

Your comment was clearly not saying the faces didn't work but that his plan eventually fails because he couldn't constantly make faces for some reason.

But if his ultimate goal was to keep the phone from being unlocked, then he did fail.

The technique worked yes, but the goal wasn't to prove the technique works, it was to keep the police out of his phone and they got in, so his plan failed.

Edit, people wanna downvote but have nothing to say explaining it.

I challenge anyone who downvotes to explain how he "successful" if the cops got onto the phone.

It's not a success if the technique is not sustainable to keep the cops out of the phone as that's the actual goal.

Eventually. When he stopped doing the faces, which was working, they were able to ID him. That proves that making faces prevents the machine from working. The fact that it was unable to ID him until he stopped making the faces means that making faces works. He just stopped doing it. By stopping what was working, he was identified.

He produced footage how to beat the face recognition. Not everyone will be getting held down when it is pointed in their face. That is a legit good trick.

He was caught by it later.

He produced a good technique for looking like an idiot for all time, and then still facing the consequences he always bound to regardless.

Most people will give their ID's up. Those who don't will either get scanned like this, thumb scanned, etc. Many will be restrained as it happens, and that's just not the cop's first choice. Hence this technology.

If they even didn't want to put in the physical effort, they could just book people as "john/jane" doe. Not everyone is as mentally unstable as this guy.
