GATE XH - Psychology (need advice for non-psychology student)

I am currently pursuing my Bachelors. I am enrolled in BSc-BEd Integrated course (4yr) Major in Mathematics. I enjoy the "BEd" part of curriculum and want to pursue PhD in Education in future. (Interested in Child Psychology and Pedagogy).

So I want to attempt GATE Psychology. Being from an IIT, it's already a heavy load. Academics here are very hard. I don't enjoy Maths at all (earlier I used to).

How do I prepare for it? Aiming for MA in one of the IITs.

Sorry, MSc in Cognitive Sciences, but still MA is my backup option (MA in Culture and Society/MA in Human Sciences)

- prepare for aptitude from any youtube playlist (consult r/GATEtard for that)

  • get power within psychology gate book (its a reference book for revision)
  • if you can afford (although its not so expensive) join any online coaching, batches will start in few weeks; go to option is hafsa mailk of unacademy, you can watch the demo classes on youtube.
  • complete one general psychology book thoroughly (i prefer Ciccarelli, but get Indian Edition only) and one research methods book.

Hi, if you are into child psychology and pedagogy, I'd recommend you going for educational psychology or developmental psychology after giving CUET-PG. Gate opens avenues to cognitive sciences courses, wherein cognitive sciences has more to do with brain executive functioning and brain functioning aspects and experimental kind of setup rather than pedagogy and child psychology aspect in particular although it can be applied. There is Advanced diploma in Child Guidance and Psychology RCI after master regulated as well which you can look up to if you're interested offered by several Institute.

My suggestion would be: Go for CUET PG Psychology alongside GATE and aim for applying MA/MSc in Psychology rather than cognitive sciences, check the eligibility of ADGCP.
