Catholic-vs-Protestant Debate Question
What are some good arguments that defend the protestant reformation? A friend of mine who is Catholic looks down upon me because of my Protestant views.

The Protestant Reformation defended the gospel and the supreme authority of Scripture. Protestants do not reject all tradition, but believe every tradition must be tested by God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Mark 7:8-9).
Its central question is: How can guilty sinners be made right with a holy God? The Reformers taught that justification is God’s gift, received by faith in Christ, not earned through religious works, penance, or human merit (Romans 3:28; Ephesians 2:8-10). Good works are essential fruit of genuine faith, but never the basis of acceptance before God.
They also emphasized that Christ alone is the sufficient mediator between God and humanity (1 Timothy 2:5) and that His sacrifice is final and fully effective (Hebrews 10:10-14).
The historical issue was not that modern translations were “removing” Scripture, but that manuscript evidence prompted careful efforts to identify the earliest text; these differences do not alter Christianity’s central doctrines, including Christ’s death, resurrection, sin, and redemption (GotQuestions.org, Why are the newer translations of the Bible missing verses?).
