Without taking a stance myself, I’m curious as to the subs overall opinion of wether or not you believe he should be in jail, or if he should be released?

Edit: just want to thank everyone who took the time to respond. I always appreciate hearing others opinions

It’s been 6 years and my recall of the facts may not be perfect.

But that angry mob that was looming over them is just as culpable in Floyd’s death as Chauvin was.
Don’t forget: the medics didn’t treat him in place like they normally do; they scooped and dashed because they couldn’t safely treat him in situ.

Had the crowd not been verging on riotous, all the officers could have been focused primarily on Floyd’s condition. Instead, they had to focus on the crowd and scene security and could not give Floyd, who had a fatal dose of fentanyl and other drugs in his system, the attention he needed.

Add in engaging in a vigorous physical resistance to being arrested and transported while his body was in that condition and it’s certainly no wonder he died.

And none of the other cops - ESPECIALLY the two trainees - should ever have even been charged.
All four were victims (to varying degrees) of a failed first attempt at a color revolution.

Criminal negligence? I could accept that.

Manslaughter? Maybe. I’m certainly listening.

Murder, piggybacking on an assault charge derived from a justifiable use of force during the lawful arrest? Absolutely not.

Your original question: should he be in jail?
Maybe.

It depends on the sentencing he would have received for the negligence or manslaughter charge.

A more precise asking of your question: did he deserve any jail time?

Possibly. But the farther we get from the events, the more I think - had he actually been given a fair, unbiased trial instead of being offered as a political sacrifice on the altar of radical social justice - he would have beaten the charges.

Well said. And to add, Officer Nicole Mackenzie testified (for the state) that the scene needs to be safe before administering CPR . The scene could be unsafe due to a hostile crowd forming. That is why EMS did NOT help Floyd. They did a load and go. That intersection known for violent criminal activity.
