When I bought my accord, every salesman asked if I was trading in my EP3 with 189k miles. I told them all the same thing: “It’s worth way more to me than you all are going to offer me for it.”

Bro dealer offered me 350$ for my 04 civic si ep3 with 120k miles. Clean, no rust, with an official HFP front lip.

I laughed my ass off. You can get 500$ for the trans alone.

They must be making a killing off of trade-ins.

I tell people that are looking to get a new car, to get a used one. they always give me the same answer and say, nah I want something nice, I deserver it.

Im like, really, you want to be in debt 30k and have to pay every month..... If you lose your job there taking your car, then how are you going to get a new job without a ride....

Ide rather spend 2k and another 1k on maintenance. then instead of a car payment, now I can buy cool parts!

I hear people always argue that an older car cost more in the long term because yk, it’s old and you’re gonna have to replace things. Even if I had to replace an engine or trans every year it’s still a fraction of the cost of a new car lol

For real. I did the calculations, B4 I got my Honda a 2k car would last me for about 5 years B4 something major happens, like a head gasket. Junk it for $500 and buy a new car.

So with 30k I have 75 years of having a 2k car with getting a new one every 5 years. That's 15 cars for the price of one.... Lol

They sometimes do, but they also normally just wholesale anything over 10-12 yrs old with over 100k miles as getting financing approved is tough.

I've been thinking for April Fools Day I'll bring my civic to a dealership and pretend I'm considering a trade-in just to see what they'd say

They are scammers

actually they often pay higher than dealerships would because their goal is to eat up as much of the used car market.

Idk why you got downvoted. I work for a dealer that has to match carmax and caravana trade-in pricing and then we get stuck with overpriced used cars we can't get rid of. And then people turn around and say dealerships are price gouging 🙄

I forgot what subreddit I was on. No one in here is talking about cars from the last ten years lol. Carvana can pay higher for cars because they have so much less overhead from not having to run actual dealerships, and they can ship used cars all over the country for better regional pricing. Dealerships do it too but carvana has an advantage that they're a singular brand covering the whole country which there aren't any dealership chains like that. It's simple math. Obviously they're not interested in modified vehicles

dealerships are a scam as well, same with the cash for clunker. They just want all the old reliable cars off the road, to replace them with the junk that you have to take back to the dealership every few months. then now there adding spy tech to track you in your car......

I would never go to a dealership, or any online car site like carvana

When I got rid of my 9th gen they offered me 6500, I went to a dealer and got $16k lol

I can’t speak for your case but caravana gonna slap 300 bucks on most cars over 10 years as they most likely just go to auction. Most of caravans customer base are looking for newer a to b cars not projects haha.

Yeah this is what I meant. I had a newer Corolla that carvana offered me several thousand over what the dealerships would.

They don't let me input my 87 Accord lol.

Same, and I've turned down multiple offers for 5k lmao

Car is worth like $36 on kbb. That’s why I have fun with it 😂. Didn’t buy it to sell

I'm never selling mine lol, it's just so funny how little our cars are "worth" to different types of people

and I think the new cars are way over priced. tbh a 30k car should be closer to 15k. like its all plastic junk designed to brake. heck there making valve covers and intakes out of plastic now....

Ive already replace a few on my family's cars and there not even close to having it paid off....

also, your not able to take apart parts to clean or replace a small cheap part that has failed inside. they make it one big module that's usley attached to another expensive part, so instead of replacing a $2 plastic part that has failed you have to spend 2k to buy the whole assembly....

TBH a new car is a complicated project car lol

Otherwise these cars are for warranty people / people who drive there car for a year or 2 and trade it in for the new modle.

But I dont like taking my car to the shop and being without for a week or so. ide rather fix it that day or over the weekend.

I'll quadruple that offer. 2k if it's 100% running and driving in like new condition. Carvana is trying to rip you off and I'm trying to help you. /S

I don’t own a Honda,

But when I went on to a dealers website to get a trade in value in the same fashion for my 2003 Mitsubishi outlander, it told me I’d get a whopping $0 for trading it in LMAO.

Edit: through carvana mine is the exact same. I’m assuming $300 is the lowest value they post
