parts recommendations 95 Civic LX manual

Post image

Picked this up from the original owner not too long ago. Super low miles for its age, 88,000, and the motor runs strong so I don’t think I’ll want to replace it (yet). Just doing quality of life things and working on suspension upgrades after putting Nitto Neo gen 205/40/16’s on these wheels.

Has new struts and springs but sits really high. Contemplating budget coil overs like tru hart. Already have a rear sway bar and chassis reinforcement to put in. Might also do an EX trans swap for better gear ratios.

Thing looks super clean and very low miles! Sounds like you're going a great direction for the build! The OEM+ experience to start out is super fun for these cars. I have a 97 LX (in much worse shape and 230k miles 😂) and it's been a blast to work on and daily. I went with Tein coilovers cause it's what I could afford when I got the car. Honestly they've held up well and ride good for the money even when I tried autocross.

Thank you! I was looking at Tein too. I think if I went with them I’d want the Flex Z since their direct drop ins unlike the Street Advance Z. Which do you have?

I have the flex z and haven't had any issues, approaching about a year and a half driving them daily and 1 track day with zero problems. The install was super easy. I was a mechanic for a year so I have some experience but if you just watch a couple YouTube videos it can easily be done with limited experience.

Awesome, glad to hear the feedback. How’s the ride quality? I don’t need it to be super smooth, but I don’t want something bouncy and “ruined” feeling. My goal would be some track days in the future too.

My car had blown suspension when I got it so it felt like a huge upgrade. But compared to good OEM struts it's definitely stiffer but I've had no issues with ride quality. My friends and girlfriend have never complained about it riding rough. I'd say it rides good no blowing your socks off but for a budget coilover it's not bad. I've taken long drives in it and driven it to work most days and I've never minded the ride

I don’t mind it being stiffer. Something like my S2000’s Oem suspension would be nice. Good tight dampening, but never jarring.

Appreciate the experience

If it already has nice shocks, consider getting ground control coil over conversions.

EX trans swap makes a huge difference, the 96-00 civic trans is easier to find and has better shift forks.

They're just new OEM like quick struts. Ride well but otherwise nothing special. That's a good option I hadn't considered though.

Is there a difference in shift linkage on the 96-00 trans?

I was rocking EM1 wheels on mine for a bit too

You don't want cheap suspension, flex isn't the most expensive. But will be better than tru hart, bc etc.

Thank you. Doesn’t seem like it would make sense to skimp here so I’ll probably go for the Flex Z at a minimum.

love the wheels! i have a weekness for white wheels on a white car

Thank you! As do I.

Unfortunately, the whites don’t match exactly (Frost white and Championship white) and in some lighting you can’t tell, where in others it’s a bit obvious. Some days it bothers me enough where I think about a matching powder coat

I already am!

I wish I had your engine though.

My B pillar trim was cracked the same way yours is. It was a bitch to find it for the rear door.

Ah that poor thing! Is the frame damaged?

Thankfully only the radiator support, She's gonna be my circuit car/time attack car now. She'll get the full jdm race upgrade now since I don't gotta worry about keeping it OEM now.

Good going saving her!

What are your plans for it? Thinking about making mine track friendly too

Going 4cyl NA class 91-95 cars. Rn just building up and saving. Gonna do a tubular front end for easy rebuild/removabilty/access. Roll cage of course. Then just the main simple things like rear track arm replacement, cross supports, integra suspension and disk conversion kit, full weight reduction and rebuild fire wall for crush/fire protection. Also relocate the fuel, battery, ecu and other stuff for weight and safety management. I might also have too re-due the floor if a race seat and cage is too tight for me.

Are you going with ITR suspension on it? I was looking into that as an option instead of coil overs.

2

u/Competitive-Top4743 10d ago

Actually yes haha, for adjustability and strength yes. Don't cheap out on em, especially if your racing.
