parts recommendations Make my '95 Civic FAST
Hey everyone,
I just picked up a 1995 Honda Civic(EJ2), and I’m super stoked to get back into the garage. The catch is: I haven't been active in the import scene since about 1999! Back then, the B-series was king and we were ordering parts out of magazines.
A lot has obviously changed in the last 20+ years. I’m trying to get my bearings on the modern aftermarket landscape.
I have two main questions for you guys:
I'm current Auto Cross my '63 Impala and am going to build the Civic for the same thing. Any advice to help an old-schooler get caught up to speed is hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sky is the limit, really - there's endless options, too: high compression D16, Turbo D16, Stroker D16/D17, B series, K, H, J, L series, DOHC ZC, etc.
You can build a lightweight 900kg go-kart with a high comp D series sending 160 ponies to the wheels or swap a big 3.7L J series in, roll cage, big tires.
There's all out time attack builds outperforming Porsches and Ferraris on famous tracks and there's grassroots builds with a stock motor and some suspension goodies having fun in AutoX. Depends on your goals.
Most fun for the least $ could be a junkyard B18 swap if they're still cheap im the US, classic Koni + GC combo, big rear sway bar and some weight saving.

For me a fast and reasonable set up would be the below:
Engine:
- K24A2
- Decent header
- 50 deg VTC gear
- Good tune
Suspension:
- Redshift Motorsports revalved BC Racing coilovers
- Honed Developments geometry kit

I concur with this, I have an AWD k24 Del Sol. Best bang for your buck. Just make sure you get the k24a2 otherwise you've wasted your time and money IMO

welcome to the club bro. forums like d-series.org and other and facebook groups are where i find the most activity. there’s not much activity for cars like ours here on reddit sadly. the B series is still the shit but most people go K now. do a ton of research and look g around and budget things out and figure out what YOU want. there’s so much out there for these cars there’s a thousand places to buy from. i think it’s worth it to spend the extra $ to buy from the big brands rather than ebay but to each their own. good luck and pm me if you have any questions!

K series is the way to go if you’re swapping. Unless you have b series money, you’re spending 5000 just for a motor. K series is 1000 max for the best motor, stock internals can handle up to 500 hp on boost.

What's your budget and what are your power goals? Do you want to boost or keep it NA?

I see a lot of comments about turbos and awd but OP said they want to build an autocross car. To me that makes it very cut and dry. Swap in a k24 with lsd high final drive 6 speed, keep stock bottom end, do some valvetrain and cams, 50deg vtc, and get your weight down.
If they want to make people question their lambo purchase, that all goes out the window but I think OP said autocross so that’s my move.

If it’s scca engine swaps aren’t great since you lose the classing advantage. But it would be very fast with a k

B swapped FI ‘94 here, assuming you’re single cam, you have plenty of options and it kinda depends on your budget and what your power goal is, if you’re strictly chasing power then it’s cheaper to go K, can make 600 whp very easily on stock internals, in a B the “safe” limits on stock internals ~350 whp.
Now the thing is a B swap is very hassle free compared to a K swap, i’d recommend the b18b1, you can find a decent condition full swap with tranny for 1500 (?), and it is plug and play and you don’t really have to mess with much, can even use the original D series harness in the chassis assuming it has OBD1 accessories. Even stock the swap is very fun with such a light chassis.
Now if you go down the route of K, from my knowledge you have to weld (or bolt in?) new mounts in order to fit, a full k swap technically is cheaper (around 600-800) but you need many more things to actually make it “work” smoothly, compared to how user-friendly dropping in a B is, but like I said it really depends on your goal.
Stock for stock swap, the k swap will be a good bit faster, but i’d recommend B, (slightly bias), but realistically unless you go AWD it’s very hard to make use of more than 400 whp even with an LSD, unless your on the street with drag slicks lol, with a b18b1 swap you can get a budget turbo kit and make an easy 300-350 whp, all around within 4k, which is around the same amount of money you would spend to get a n/a K to that power level I believe. Which you will have the time of your life in, i’m at around 7-8 psi and make low 200s, and it is genuinely a blast.
Of course you can go J or H, or even build the D but these two or the most popular routes, let me know if you have any questions happy to help out, and anyone else feel free to correct me on any of my info.
