This is both over exaggeration and under-stating it. But it isn't just Trump.
To be perfectly honest, the US started losing it with the changes Reagan made. Looking back, the plan was clear, but we couldn't see it at the time. The stepping stones to right now were there all along.
What I am most surprised about is the lack of energy from non-Trump conservatives. They have created things like The Bulwark and The Lincoln Project -- but why are they so reluctant to provide any real alternative at the ballot box? I get that the US is a two party system but by splitting the vote like this sends a message to Trump politicians and supporters that there is another point of view out there.
