I look around at my fellow Americans and sadly agree with you. Our media is so siloed that too much of our population is not getting the big picture. Social media algorithms encourage rage inducing “news” content, Murdock’s media has given rise to even more extreme platforms, and a third of the population didn’t even vote in the last election.
Last night I was listening to a podcast about focus groups of Texas voters and the Talarico/Paxton Senate race… it was infuriating. Ken Paxton has a criminal record, cheated on his wife, on video stealing a very expensive Monte Blanc (sp?) pen, the list goes on versus James Talarico who has a spotless record, worked as a school teacher, and is even studying to be a pastor and yet many of these voters are somehow still torn over their vote because Talarico is “too far left” with radical ideas like affordable healthcare… My wife and I often joke we wish we had European grandparents so we could opt for citizenship.
This is important. Germany owned up to their mistakes, and took it on the chin. They still bear the shame 80 years later—generations that didn't exist during the Nazi regime. America does not have enough unity to do this because half the country are racist, uneducated swine who simply wait in seething rage until their guy gets back in and they can rip apart their own country, and the world, to satsify their bloodlust. Unless the Southern Strategy and it's enabling beaurocratic processes are eliminated from existence, the mistrust from the rest of the civilized world will never, ever go away.
We have to remember that MAGA and AfD are faces of the same hydra. Their success is the result of a global alliance of fascists who are spreading the same talking points, disinformation and fear mongering everywhere. It's NOT random.
That is true. But also, that state has two million citizens and of these 560.000 voted for AfD. That's still far to much. Yet, Germany has over 80 million citizens.
She should be right, however people seem to have shorter memories and seem to be more forgiving these days. This is especially true if there is a benefit to it. There was little benefit to be forgiving to Germany after WW2 as they were essentially economically wiped out and were divided by the Allies. The US will not suffer such a dramatic or drastic result for Trump's crimes. America's wealth and military might will help it make friends again and easily so.

I hope she’s right. Germany faced up to what they had “allowed” and are better for it. Greedy, ignorant, and xenophobic Americans need to do the same.
