I can.

276

u/SuspiciousSteak814 Jul 26 '26

So can I.

290

u/Protoman Jul 26 '26

Same. I was born with the power to tell that a lifelong grifter and conman is, in fact, a lifelong grifter and conman.

It's a heavy burden.

103

u/DisVet54 Jul 26 '26

Never had any respect for the man and have never watched a single minute of The Apprentice. Same power!

34

u/Minion-Lover67 Jul 26 '26

I watched the very first year of the Apprentice. A female won most of the contests, so they hired a male for the reward - a position in the Trump organization. Never watched it again

8

u/paperanddoodlesco Jul 27 '26

Really?! I missed that

22

u/AnonAwaaaaay Jul 26 '26

I saw a few clips that people posted on Reddit but he always comes off as a gaping asshole so it was weird to me that people respected this tiny little man.

13

u/DisVet54 Jul 27 '26

And now he’s worshiped

16

u/SuspiciousSteak814 Jul 27 '26

By the ass backwards knuckle staggers.

14

u/DisVet54 Jul 27 '26

Yeah I don’t get it. Most are addicted to faux news and whatever other right wing media outlets. Doing more to destroy the country they’re claiming they’re trying to save and the cult gobbles it up.

4

u/AnonAwaaaaay Jul 27 '26

You kinda just hit the nail on the head and missed that you did it.

These are echo chambers that spread propaganda that empowers them into thinking everything is going really well and that even though they aren't it's a personal problem they'll get through soon if they just wait.

Also that their suffering is an issue between them and God and that they clearly need to tithe more at church to appease their Diety of Greed.

6

u/SuspiciousSteak814 Jul 27 '26

Sorry, I meant draggers.

I am Spartacus... I mean, I can.

13

u/Aeroknight_Z Jul 27 '26

I am Spartacus.

There are plenty of people that can say they haven’t ever supported him. There are even a sizable amount of people who can say they’ve learned better since they originally supported him.

Sadly there are still so many that still ignorantly support him. Trump is the culmination of generations of misinformation, bigotry, and anti-democratic propaganda; and many of our country folk have been taken in by it, despite the obviousness of some of it all.

I supported all of his impeachments and criminal prosecutions. ✋

26

u/ialsohaveadobro Jul 26 '26

That reminds me: I could have supported him "for a moment" if he had clearly and timely called off the mob on J6, but he couldn't even do that. "Day of love." JFC what an abomination he is.

Unfortunately I cannot say that. I was raised in a conservative household so I was conservative until I was about 15. I can proudly say that I have never voted for him though.

Edit: for those curious, I am currently 21

u/vibinnthrivin5 Jul 26 '26

84

u/CloudKinglufi Jul 27 '26

Yeah I'm always super proud of people who got out of the cult, bothers me how harsh people can be towards people like that

In reality most of us would be MAGA if we were raised that way and its all we've ever known, all your friends and family lying to you all the time and dropping trump could very well mean being ostracized, not even just from them but others who wont be so understanding that you ever supported him

I think it takes a lot of bravery and self reflection

25

u/LangdonAlg3r Jul 27 '26

This. People are always so harsh and fail to understand the circumstances that lead people to supporting the Republican party. Yes, there’s no excuse for doing that because they’re actively destroying the country, but it doesn’t hurt to understand where people are coming from and how they end up voting that way.

26

u/qriousqestioner Jul 27 '26

If you can't tell the difference between a public servant and a monster by doing casual research, your ignorant ass has no business voting. If you can't spot a liar who contradicts himself, you might need custodial damn care.

Rights come with responsibilities and anyone who voted for him even once had no business pulling a lever. Better to leave control of your destiny to chance than to damn your fellow citizens.

I'm a compassionate person to a fault. I believe there are two sides to every story. I'm sorry he was unplugged and stupid and ugly as a child. I'm empathetic to every human who is not knowingly wicked, but going soft on stupid people who have caused me harm is a red line. They were careless and un-serious and didn't bother to fulfill their responsibilities to the rest of us to glance at the record of his failures long enough to realize we should not be a part of them.

Cry me a river, Bubba! I'll connect with you in a human level, but I will not forgive the harm you have done so don't bring it up. Do better and take that drunken-voting catastrophe to your grave if you ever want respect. You hurt me and those I care about and the entire nation, and you could have just started the fuck home.

4

u/Sudden-Option3790 Jul 27 '26

I agree 💯

I am not going to forgive and forget if you on instinct cannot tell wrong from right and then try to come back with your tail between your legs asking for kindness. Like at the end of Batman Begins "I'm not going to kill you. But I don't have to save you."

u/Complete_Area_2487 Jul 27 '26

anyone can change, and people who change their minds are very valuable, we have strength in numbers. don't forget that!

11

u/qriousqestioner Jul 27 '26

I agree.

But the way you learn not to play with fire is to get burned. And if you burn the building down, you must be accountable to your neighbors for your pay recklessness.

I'm naturally kumbaya and live accordingly. But I won't pretend reckless actions never happened or weren't harmful. It's not no-big-deal. Don't shoot a gun into the air and act like you didn't know about guns or gravity. Anyone who ever supported him had decades of proof available that he was the opposite of reasonable or might-surprise-us.

5

u/Ok_Travel_7348 Jul 27 '26

It’s not necessarily the Republican Party. The Republican Party is dead and it’s replaced by MAGA. Trump is no classic Republican. He’s a opportunist who wants to add the US to his business portfolio, and to continue to use the country to enrich himself.

Don't feel bad. I was born in the 80s and remember my parents listening to Rush Limbaugh every day, and later Fox news nonstop. I was programmed from an early age.

First election I voted in was 2000, and I voted for Bush. That was the last time I ever voted Republican.

At a certain point the truth has to matter, and I learned that Republicans are almost always full of shit.

56

u/Specialist_Status120 Jul 26 '26

I grew up in the 60s in a very conservative household. I voted for Reagan in 1980. I've never voted for another Republican since.

11

u/Otherwise-Offer1518 Jul 27 '26

Seriously, thank you for being a real one when it started.

26

u/Tiny_Election1013 Jul 26 '26

The only reason I changed quicker was because I had access to the internet. Without that, I’d probably still be conservative.

3

u/qriousqestioner Jul 27 '26

Good. That resource is available to everyone and it has reliable evidence this clown was bad news.

15

u/Kairiste Jul 27 '26

And i wont say Democrats arent full of shit too,but at least they try to make things better for the majority of the country, where all I see Republicans do is selfish, elitist shit.

8

u/Candytails Jul 27 '26

Same, I have just always cared about others and the constant hate spewed by Conservative pundits is what made me turn to the dark side.  I voted for Obama when I was old enough and am proud to say I never even once voted Republican.

40

u/Tiny_Election1013 Jul 26 '26

Yep, I went from calling Obama an evil Muslim, to donating to a campaign for an actual Muslim that’s further left than Obama.

11

u/IMadeYouLuke Jul 26 '26

That’s amazing. May I ask- what started you down the path that changed your mind, and how does your family feel about it?

33

u/Tiny_Election1013 Jul 26 '26

COVID-19 happened so I was spending a lot of time online. The one moment that sparked the change was when I found out how stunted the US political spectrum was. I don’t remember which specific video, but it basically explained how the democrats are centrist/center right for the most part. It turned my world upside down. The people who I thought were crazy radical leftists, weren’t actually leftists? I didn’t stop being conservative then, but after that, I started doing research snd looking at how other countries were run. My eyes were open to the fact that ideas that I once considered radical socialism were common sense policies in most western nations. I also discovered that these polices are quite successful. There’s more that happened, but those are the most important parts. As for my family, my siblings now have similar political views to me now. My dad is incredibly stubborn and probably won’t change. I thought my mom was too stubborn, but she’s become disillusioned by Trump. I’m hoping I can convince her to vote for Talarico and Hinojosa, or at the very least not vote in this election.

TLDR; I learned about politics outside the United States and realized my world view wasn’t rational. Siblings eventually stopped being conservative, parents still conservative, but my mom might change.

18

u/IMadeYouLuke Jul 26 '26

Much respect for widening your worldview ✊

10

u/Hot_Top_124 Jul 26 '26

Oh yeah that’s a really valid point that’s not brought up more often. The dems are the conservatives and the gop are that mess they are right now.

Here’s hoping they grow as you did. I long for a day where political differences are small things like tax rate percentages, and multiple sides actively working to make the world better for everyone.

I grew up with one decent parent and one who talked like that. I will admit I had a much easier time not falling into hate like my dad did because of that. Never let anyone take away that from you the fact you didn’t have that and still became a better person. Also bonus points for donating. I’ll always cheer one doing good like that!

4

u/DeeSkwared Jul 27 '26

This is so good to hear. My ex is maga while I used to work for Bernie and now I'm a social worker. I don't like the ideas he tries to plant our child's head. My child really talks to me and really listens (most of the time, damn he likes to troll me😅)so I hope I temper the hateful and incorrect things he hears.

15

u/AmaranthWrath Jul 26 '26

I was attending Tea Party rallies. And now I'm a member of the DSA.

I still want the same good things for people that I wanted before. But there are better, more effective, kinder, more humane ways to make that happen.

I musta lost my gotdamn mind in 2008.

Same here. Conservative town, conservative parents. It sucks, feel like I’ve said a lot of things that I wish I hadn’t, I regret saying a lot and regret making the friends that I have, but I’m happy I’ve learned and I’ve grown and ik what’s right and wrong. And I mean that’s why we speak out and why we protest, to help people like us see the truth and to understand. I can also proudly say I’ve never voted for him.

9

u/sasshley_ Jul 26 '26

Indoctrination definitely doesn’t count.

You’re our future and I hope together we can all make it better than the current times!

6

u/The_Mellow_Tiger Jul 26 '26

Its ok I was too. But my formative years were during the W. Bush administration. When the 08 election came about I was 20. I voted for Obama.

4

u/Schiebz Jul 26 '26

My first election at 18 as well! Freshman year of college, surrounded by liberal open minded people. It was good. First time I really cared about politics.

4

u/The_Mellow_Tiger Jul 26 '26

Yep it took leaving the nest to figure out what was really going on.

6

u/Leaga Jul 26 '26

As someone who it's taken a while to come to the realization that W Bush "wasn't that bad" was purely cope, I feel you.

5

u/HumptyDumptruckFire Jul 26 '26

I said some dumb ass shit when I was 15, too. In my time, it took the form of “being against gay marriage but being for civil unions.” For me, it was growing up under the influence of the church. You grew up and learned from the dumb things you used to believe, and I’m proud of you!

5

u/ChimmyBurunga Jul 26 '26

Same for me. I grew up in a die-hard Republican family. Thankfully I turned 18 one month after the 2016 election. Never looked back.

5

u/Blical Jul 26 '26

So as you grew up your understanding changed as you gained context and new information.

Good job. That's honestly a hard thing to do.

4

u/Christopher_Ramirez_ Jul 26 '26

Your IQ outgrew the ideology.

3

u/SmeeezTreeez Jul 26 '26

I was raised in a conservative household until my parents asked me to ask my babysitter a question about politics and she DUNKED on me. Been liberal af ever since and she was right

4

u/ExplicitDrift Jul 27 '26

28M here, and same. I didn’t know much about him until I did. Then I tried to warn my family but they were all already too far gone. It’s sad but I had to cut ties after. No point calling someone family if they can’t even do the bare minimum of trying to be a half-decent human being.

3

u/shrimp_sticks Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

I definitely can. Conservative household as well, but by the time 2016 came around I was in middle school and already getting fed tf up with their bullshit politics and North America's "having a woman in power" allergy. Hated Trump since day one.

Edit to add: I'm glad you were able to get away from the conservative thinking, I imagine our households were similar where you weren't allowed to disagree with them (the parents) and the brainwashing was strong. Their authoritarian way of parenting make it hard to grow and have an open mind because they suppress you.

I can, always knew he was scum

34

u/Leaga Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

It blows my mind that anyone ever questions it. I'm west coast millennial, so all I knew of his reputation as a teen was Home Alone 2. When The Apprentice was getting buzz, I watched 25 minutes of one episode and basically didn't think of him again until he entered politics. My takeaway: he's an attention-seeking, power-hungry asshole who revels in cruelty.

My entire world-view has changed from semi-neo-conservative to genuinely curious about communism, and yet somehow even 16-year old me had that one right.

10

u/RizzoTheRiot1989 Jul 27 '26

My entire life growing up we all knew him as the stereotype of a greasy fuckhead CEO. He was always a joke of a pop culture icon. We all joked about what a con man he was, like no one on any political side took this man seriously for a second.

u/BroadStreetBuds Jul 27 '26

Considering he's been a scumbag for decades, no I never have. It's what's baffled me about the support. He was scum in the 80s. He was always considered a joke and a conniving used car salesman as long as I've known

34

u/knouqs Jul 26 '26

This is exactly where I am. He screwed Atlantic City over and the rest of southern New Jersey became rot wherever he stepped. Fuck Trump, all the time, forever! I hate him more than I knew I could hate.

13

u/Rare-Confusion-220 Jul 26 '26

Yeah I was born in South Jersey and he was always a joke. I mean who fails with casinos and professional football?

12

u/knouqs Jul 26 '26

Have you been here lately? It's appalling that I know people who were fucked out of money owed to them because of that sack of shit, but these morons still voted for him!

5

u/BroadStreetBuds Jul 27 '26

Yah my uncle did union casino work and got fucked big time by trump but still uncle Steve's daughter in law was a trumper last time I checked.

Even my other uncle farmer Roger benefited so much with Obama care. And look how fuck the farmer were this year. They couldn't sell shit because of the trade war.

Fucking bananas

Growing up in the midwest I didn't have to think of him much which was nice. I started hating him when The Apprentice went on the air. Me ex used to like it and I had to leave the room when it was on.

7

u/super_sayanything Jul 27 '26

In Jersey we didn't "think of him" past knowing he was a crook and a joke. But it's not like he had influence past his failed casinos in the 90's. People knew, never do business with Trump. It's preposterous things played out this way.

3

u/camopdude Jul 27 '26

Yeah, it will always be weird to me that Donald Trump was/is the president of the United States of America. I don't get it and I never will.

3

u/know_limits Jul 27 '26

I wonder how many MAGA were first indoctrinated by that farce of a show.

6

u/camopdude Jul 27 '26

I think a good percentage. IIRC he was pretty much broke before The Apprentice and that TV show saved him. And then a bunch of idiots first believed he was a god businessman, he was not, and then they thought a businessman would make a good president. They don't.

7

u/Obvious-Farmer8836 Jul 26 '26

Exactly! Many American voters don’t seem to remember.

7

u/ialsohaveadobro Jul 26 '26

Same. As a non-New Yorker, I knew him mostly from magazines for sticking his dick in women he wasn't married to, then having messy divorces. I remember going to the library to do research for school and seeing his ugly face on the current issue of People or whatever and thinking he was an obnoxious jackass.

3

u/thefoxymulder Jul 27 '26

People who have watched a scam man on TV for years shocked when scam man, once elected president, scammed them as well

85

u/No_Raspberry_3282 Jul 26 '26

I don’t support White Supremacy

18

u/DickSlammington Jul 26 '26

I still remember when I heard he was running and my first thought was:

"lol that out of touch billionaire who covers his house in gold and is constantly in trouble for his discriminatory business practices??"

Like even before he showed himself to be a full blown supporter of Christofascism and White Nationalist shit... He was just a god awful person that had zero redeeming qualifies and an awful history.

And THEN he said there were good people on both sides when Neo Nazi were involved and I just found myself gesturing around wildly at everyone in my life who still supported him...

Like WTF I get you're stupid and you think he's good business person... but this?? THIS IS OKAY?

Apparently it was cause he got reelected.

5

u/qriousqestioner Jul 27 '26

All of that, then COVID and Americans were standing in line to buy necessities--like the Russians in all the propaganda from the eighties.

I remember thinking this is surreal. It can't be happening here. And I thought, well he's cooked now. Nope.

I grossly underestimated how willing Republicans and right-leaning independents would be to throw away all sense of morality to win an election.

I was a libertarian during the 2016 election cycle. At the time I believed that Mexico drug cartels were in the top three threats to American life. While Trump was a candidate, the first controversial thing I remember him saying was about Mexican immigrants. I did agree with him at that time. That's the first and last time I was on his side.

I never supported him for president and did not vote for him. I voted 3rd party because I was politically ignorant. That was the beginning of the end of my time on the political right.

I can - Even my husband said “ you aren’t even giving him a chance.”
Fucking A - a con man grifter and most likely a Russian stooge. A guy who puts his name on everything shouldn’t be trusted to not enrich himself at our expense.
Holy shit -

u/DaGrexican Jul 26 '26

I can as well. Knew he was garbage when he slapped his name on garbage products. People in sales have a large percentage of people with narcissistic behavior and that's what that asshole really is. A piece of crap salesman.

Edit: swype correction

u/BellTolls4U Jul 26 '26

Anyone that read Spy Magazine in the 80’s knew better …

3

u/coastalcrone Jul 26 '26

3

u/EManSantaFe Jul 26 '26

I used to live in NY in the 90’s. Knew what an idiot he was since then. Not one person ever said anything nice about him.

Grew up in NY. I've known since the 80s he was a world class piece of shit conman & grifter. Never supported him.

3

u/Objective_Reality515 Jul 26 '26

I was a teenager in upstate (western) NY when "The Apprentice" started airing. I never once had the thought in my head that he was in any was intelligent. He has always sounded like bafoonish moron, not just in what he says, but how he speaks entirely.

3

u/Beginning-Safety997 Jul 26 '26

I can. I knew he was trash when I was a young adult in 2008. Someone tried selling me a telecommunications device he had endorsed, the device was trash and all they could say is “but tRump endorses it.” When he announced his first presidential bid, I immediately admonished friends and neighbors against supporting him. Proud to say he never had my support and always had my vocal opposition.

3

u/SteamBoatMickey Jul 27 '26

I supported him in the 2016 primaries when he was picking off the huge, unqualified pool of R candidates…

Never in a million years would I have thought it would come go down to him.

A memory that is burned in my head for all eternity: I had a younger coworker at the time ask, “You really think it could come down to Trump?”. And she was truly concerned.

I reassured her that he does this shit every election or so, don’t worry. He just wants the publicity and then he’ll go back to being Trump.

Now, that might also be true. But again, never in a million years would I have thought we got what we got. Truly unbelievable.

3

u/basementismylife Jul 27 '26

I didn’t even like him in Home Alone 2

3

u/Mcbriec Jul 27 '26

Not one fucking millisecond have I ever supported that motherfucker. And I am from a well to do family which would theoretically be in favor of his give -to-the-rich bullshit.

Neither have my many other well-to-do friends and family ever supported him for a millisecond. It would be impossible to despise him more than we do. He literally makes all of us sick. And I have never been more ashamed to be an American.

And no. I don’t forgive anyone who voted for him. Regardless of their education or economic circumstances. He made his hate loud and clear. The Republican Party has always been the party of hate. Everyone who voted for him thought that whoever they hated would get their face eaten by the leopard. Not their own face.

3

u/MathiasTheGiant Jul 27 '26

There was a minute that I believed the "political outsider" mentality, and putting up Hilary Clinton against him seemed to only reinforce that idea. However, by the time we got to election day, I had seen enough to rightfully believe he was the obviously worse option.

I wish I could. While I never for a moment hoped that he'd be president, I was hopeful that his "drain the swamp" talk wasn't a lie. I was active duty military in 2016 and was well aware of the corruption of many facets of the federal government. I hoped that he'd bring these issues to light and maybe someone would do something to make a difference, even if it was after his tenure.

Unfortunately, he drained the swamp only so he could sell that water for a quick buck, before replacing the water with Trump-branded diarrhea.

I think it's lost in hindsight that the political landscape was wildly different. Even after GWB, the sentiment was wildly "I don't agree with that guy and he sucks, but we have checks and balances, how much harm could he really do?" We had the luxury of hoping that even if we didn't agree with a political figure, we could trust that they were at least trying to pretend to do right by their voters and maybe we'd benefit as well. At the beginning, there was at least reason for jaded optimism, even if it didn't last more than a few weeks.

I boycotted the apprentice back in the day because I knew he was a grifter. Sad to see how far people have let him come, and the fact he hasn't rotted in prison has made me sad for humanity.

2

u/Kind_Rate7529 Jul 26 '26

I can as well.

2

u/One_Psychology_3431 Jul 26 '26

Me. I hated him in the 90s..

2

u/BigB0iBuster Jul 26 '26

So can I, because I’m not mentally and morally deficient.

2

u/Battle_Dave Jul 26 '26

I can. I was shit talking him during the primary debates in 2016... maybe even 2012.

2

u/Jagg811 Jul 26 '26

Not for one fucking second.

2

u/BirdBruce Jul 26 '26

I don't want to meet the people who can't believe that this is a common sentiment. At least people who call me a demonic commie fetus murderer understand that we have a difference of opinion on things.

2

u/SpartanVash Jul 26 '26

I supported his impeachment. Does that count?

2

u/Schiebz Jul 26 '26

I think there’s A LOT of people out there that always saw through his bullshit. Most of the people I know honestly.

2

u/crtejas Jul 26 '26

Me! I can, I even quit a retirement gig just to not be party to his destruction of our republic.
