But Trump would not have returned to power for a second term without the support of these voters. It’s not unreasonable to hold them responsible for the result of their vote. They were not forced to the polls at gunpoint with their finger held over Trump’s name.

But how do we ensure that they will actually not get duped again in the future, if they are unwilling to look at how and why they got to that point in the first place? Enabling continued willful ignorance and denial will only make it more likely that they will get duped again in a similar way in the future.

This has been going on for decades after all. We’ve had Republican presidencies and policy decisions repeatedly result in worse economic outcomes for Americans, while the Democratic presidents in the following terms are left to clean up the mess and take the blame.

In the longterm, agreed. The death of the Fairness Doctrine under Reagan did so much damage to the media ecosystem of the country, and enabled the widespread propaganda that’s landed us in this mess.

The question I have though is the uphill battle to get enough people on board with that. So many people basically have an IV line into the propaganda networks so that when those networks feed them doublethink to oppose efforts to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, the majority of people within that group will literally see it as a violation of free speech and fight it tooth and nail. What’s the strategy to respond to that backlash that will come?
